SATURDAY BAND TO GET FLOORED TO

Saturday, June 26th, 2010 at 11:11am by

Ever wonder where that sick band Torche came from?

At the heart of that crunchy uptempo feel-good Florida trio (once-quartet) is a man by the name of Steve Brooks on guitar and vocals, who also had a hand in creating another energetic & anthemic Florida stoner doom relic by the name of Floor.

Floor went through several lineup changes through its on again-off again tempestuous run from 1992 to 2004, but the constant of Brooks kept the sound grounded (mostly) in a pretty distinguishable style that puts the vigorously vibrant energy of each song in the foreground and drops hooks aplenty.

And yes, in case you’re wondering, Floor got a hell of a lot sludgier and heavier than Torche typically does.

The band has reunited for a few shows in support of their recently-released massively-sized box set, pictured below (ten 12″ LPs, one 7″ EP, 8 CDs, 32-page booklet…..take that, LoG!) called Below and Beyond, which you can order right here.

They played Chicago last Tuesday and Philly last night (sorry for the late notice!), and are going to rock the fuck out of Brooklyn tonight at Club Europa…

You’d have to be a total numpty to not know where Torche came from. One thing I always insist of in metal is know your roots. Kids not knowing their roots is where the current wave of total shit comes from. That is all.

Also, Floor are the heaviest band in existence.

Good to see that people know Floor. Another band that spawned Torche was Cavity, and they’re pretty good too.

3 comments, and two of them are mine… now another one that is mine…. why do so many shit bands get 300 comments, and the genius that are Floor get 3. Mainly from me. I’ve spent time with these guys on a few occasions when they’ve been in the UK, and they’re all super awesome, and don’t get as much recognition as I feel they deserve. But what do I know?

Also, once again, Floor are the heaviest band in existence. Literally.

Not yet had the chance to check out Floor yet, but I sure will. I fuckin’ love Torche, especially the In Return EP – that whole disc is flawless from artwork to groove.

I love Floor. I wish I could afford that vinyl box set. It’s beautiful.
