MERCENARY LIVES!

Thursday, July 1st, 2010 at 2:00pm by

We were pretty devastated when Mercenary suddenly shed 50% of their line-up last November; you’re talking about not only a band that Vince and I have spent countless hours rocking out to, but one of the only power metal (or semi-power metal, I guess) bands that I actively enjoy.

But in January the band announced their new line-up, and now there’s a video of new drummer Morten Løwe laying down drums for their new album. And because I love Mercenary, and because Løwe has been in The Arcane Order, I am choosing to be optimistic and predicting that the new Mercenary album is going to rule. IT’S GOING TO RULE, I SAY!

No idea when this album is coming out… but we will be following its development closely.

mikael was a 1 in a million singer and the drumming w/ Merc has been oustanding in the past. it’s gonna take a lot to prove they can match their previous work.

Morten Løwe is an absolutely outstanding drummer — better than the previous guy who I think is with Hatesphere now. His work in The Arcane Order (who MetalSucks need to rave about again) and Submission (R.I.P.) is first class. There’s also a short vid on YouTube with the vocalist Rene performing some cleans which he hasn’t had to perform before (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSp8er9fPcg).

According to their website it should be out late this year.

And just now I see Kim of Anubis Gate is performing the keyboards on the album.

This is certainly my most anticipated release for the year now.

The hour that remain was an amazing record.
I hope this new one has that song writing in it.
