A NEW SKUNK ANANSIE ALBUM IS GOOD NEWS FOR AXL AND BAD NEWS FOR THE REST OF YOU

Every time I write about Skunk Anansie, a certain contingency of MS readers throw a hissy fit so bad you’d think I raped their father or something. I don’t really understand all the hatred towards this band, but I also don’t care. I fucking love Skunk Anansie, so suck it.

The band reunited last year, and have now recorded a new album, Wonderlustre, coming out September 13, and even though the cover art isn’t the greatest thing or whatever, I don’t even care none. This band has never really had great cover art, so fuck it. If Wonderlustre is half as good as 1999′s Post Orgasmic Chill (the band’s last full-length studio effort) and they tour the States, I’ll be a happy camper. So some of you best start learnin’ to just ignore any posts I write about this record, ’cause I have a feeling there’s gonna be a lot of ‘em.

Tell me what a douche I am for liking this band in the comments section.

I’d take these over Norma jean and iwabo any day.

  • Mitch K

the album art is sweet! how high WERENT you when you first saw it axl? haha seriously though thats a very nice album cover, maybe itll grow on you?

  • zen dudeist

Ya, well, you know…that’s just, like, your opinion, man

  • Jack

Once Axl puts it in his best albums list, everyone will love it.

  • evrenseven

it’s not what a douche you are for liking this band; there’s no rule that says you have to listen to exclusively metal. However, this probably isn’t the correct forum for discussing a power pop band.

  • bretton

You are a douche for liking this band… however, look on the bright side, you make vaginas smell better!

  • Doc

You’re not a douche for liking this band.

There are myriad other reasons you’re a douche, but not for this.

  • Iron

Is that supposed to be a heart? If not it still looks really similar. First Alice in Chains, then Sevendust, now Skunk Anansie. Might be a trend starting

    • Natsquatch

Actually, Alice in Chains totally ripped off Steve Earle for the idea of putting a heart on an album cover.

      I mean come on, really?

      • heuamöbe

You forgot the new Heaven Shall Burn, maybe it’s really a trend…

        • Natsquatch

Is that sarcasm also? ‘Cause that’s what I was going for.

  • Trux

    bad news indeed.

I couldn’t really give a shit either way, they aren’t a band I could get annoyed about just because they’re so average. Interesting that Metallica’s radio-rock era gets slammed consistently but material like this which is just as boring doesnt…

      OOOH YEH HEH

  • Altered Bestiality

For you who crave a little more info about the band, Skin (lead singer) sang guest vocals on Sevendusts song “Licking Cream” off of the Home album.

Her voice is fucking HAUNTING and she gives her songs a heavy sound because of it. Watch the video for Charlie Big Potato for a good example.

And Axl, you are only a douche when you frantically masturbate over bands that don’t bring anything to the table. Skunk Anansie does in this instance.

  • Dirtman73

I haven’t been too impressed with the rest of their material over the years, but “Selling Jesus” is still one of my all-time favorite songs. That tune fucking shakes my balls and churns my semen.

  • Cryzthormagnusian

I saw them open for Rollins Band in 97 or 98ish. Wasn’t impressed by them but I also wasn’t completley interested in them. I think I was too anxious for them to just hurry up and leave so I could see Rollins.

Skin’s vocals on I Can Dream rule your face. Period. I had the good fortune of being stationed in England when Skunk Anansie hit the scene. Along with The Wildhearts, Terrorvision and 3 Colours Red, it was an awesome time for the British rock scene. Too bad us Yanks never caught on.

They’re not bad. I really don’t mind them

  • brent

Post Orgasmic Chill is one of those albums that is as close as you can get to metal by attitude alone. Of course it doesn’t sound like metal, it’s just rock, but some of the harder tunes somehow feel like metal. “We Don’t Need Who You Are” is one.

Good call, Axl. I’m anticipating this one.
