NEW NECROPHAGIST THIS YEAR?

Reader Steven Peyton sent in a really interesting interview with Necrophagist guitarist/mainman Muhammed Suiςmez conducted at this year’s Hellfest, in which the wily Turkish-German fret master answers that burning question to which we’d all like to know the answer: when will we be getting new Necrophagist music?? It’s been almost six years already since Epitaph.

Says Suiςmez, they’re finishing it up this Summer. Hoorah! He also shares some interesting thoughts about the relationship between the band, their management, and their label (Relapse), his approach to writing new music, and what he’s been doing in-between tours all these years.

    “we just don’t wanna disappoint the fans” i hate garbage like that. make music for yourself and not some zitty fifteen year old. don’t ever tell me “we can’t do this without the fans” yeah you can, you just wont be able to exploit adolescent naivety. you dont care about the fans, you care about your paycheck and your ego. dumb fucking piece of subhuman shit.

    What the fuck is all the negative feedback about? lol Necrophagist is fucking awesome! I can’t believe I saw someone call them boring. Then the guy above me is claiming that they do it all for a paycheck. First off, Necro-phag is not boring. haha In fact, the word boring should never be associated with them again. Cos it’s bullshit. It’s straight up tech-death with progressive elements. I don’t get it, does a band have to stand on their head while playing to become interesting?

    Second of all, metal bands (unless you’re Metallica or Avenged Sevenfold) are definitely not doing it for a paycheck. In fact, most of them make jack shit and do it for the love of the fans and performing. I think what solidifies that Necrophagist is all about the people, is the fact that Muhammed is a mechanical engineer. I Think if he was really worried about nothing but money, he definitely wouldn’t be on tour with his very underground metal act making peanuts.

    People really need to know what the fuck they’re talking about before they post some shit up. It’s just gonna’ make you look stupid if you don’t. Necrophagist fucking rules!!! Please let this album come to fruition.

    On an unrelated note, Summer Slaughter is just four days away for me. I’m fucking stoked!!!!

    the fact that he talk about how they dont want to let the fans down and all that stuff just seems like muhammed is talking straight out of his ass. if they were that worried, and if thats what really mattered to them they would have released a fucking cd 4 years ago. but instead we hear the same crap every year that its coming out this year and blah blah blah.

    i fucking LOVE necrophagist, dont get me wrong. but either just say you dont wanna write more tunes and fucking burn the band out or actually write something and release it. thanks.

      Kind of hard to do when there is one mastermind behind the entire band. The lineup for Necro has been in constant fluctuation for whatever reason. Muhammed’s ego just doesn’t seem as such that he would just let the verbal diarrhea flow with no meaning behind what he’s saying. It’s wrong that we as music fans allow Tool to be the only band to take a couple of years to write a new album. If Necrophagist released a new album every year, the fans would straight get bored because as he said, it would probably sound exactly the same as the last. They’re not fucking Iron Maiden, releasing a new CD every two seconds. And because of this, we get albums that are years in the making like Epitaph that crush you like a steam roller. As a music fan, I’m not interested in crap. Give me the best possible fucking thing you can. That’s what I want.

        well then maybe that one mastermind should check his ego… i dont care if a band takes a couple years to put out a cd. my point is that he’s been talking about releasing a cd for years now and nothing has come except one song they did live apparently. if the guy is as talented as he certainly seems to be, line up changes shouldnt effect a cd from coming out by YEARS. especially considering he writes absolutely everything for the band. finding members shouldnt have an effect when only one guy is writting the tunes and the rest are learning them.

        and once again, considering he is so talented, it shouldnt take 6 years to write something that will infact be interesting, and generally an awesome album.

        and i also dont know why youre asking me for the best possible thing i can find you… cause that would just turn into a subjective music debate with some fucking dude over the internet i dont care about. nor did i ever question the awesomeness of necrophagist. i do believe i said i absolutely love the band.

    Necrophagist are incredibly boring. Predictable songwriting, lack of interesting vocal patters, more predictable songwriting, no movement on stage. Don’t give me that crap that it’s too technical to move. They can play this shit in their sleep, they can move around a bit and there’s plenty of techdeath bands that rip it up on stage. Good thing Grossman and Muenzner left and joined Obscura. Also, from what I heard, Muhammed was just a tad on the controlling side…

      That is true, and yet Obscura are 80 percent finished with the new record. I’m still interested in hearing the new Phagist cd when it comes out. I did hear a few interesting stories from Grossman and Muezner about him actually haha.

        I asked Grossman the difference between playing in Obscura compared to Necrophagist and he said “Freedom.”

      dude you are right necrophagist sucks because all they do is show off how technical they are and all of their songs are really stuido enhanced its all watered down overproduced bullshit they sound like muhammed got a band of robots to play in his albums can not feel any human energy in their music. i can go on and on about how much i hate this band but i do not have the time for that i will end with saying in my opionion necrophagist is the 2nd worst death metal band right behind black dahlia murder

      First and foremost, I do like Necrophagist. But honestly Death, Athiest, Meshuggah, Suffocation, hell even Nile, and Obscura. Surpass this band on levels most can’t understand. I’ve grown tired of hearing about how they have a no record coming out. When the fuck is it going to come out huh? 10 years from now? I’m sick to death of hearing The Faceless, After The Burial, and the list of AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL Sumerian Records bands ripping off this bands material to death. Christ this is getting be so bad that nu metal might have been better than Sumerians terrible roster. Look I know my age is nearly showing here, but I try and not be a grumpy fucking person. I really try not too. I try to get excited for new music.

        Actually, if you’d really like to know, I did a one hour interview with Grossman in Obscura’s van when they were on tour w/Cannibal Corpse last year. So if you want to continue calling me a jackass over the internet, I whole-heartedly send you the invitation.

    What a colossal flame war we have here. I talked to several band members of Decrepit Birth, The Faceless, and Decapitated at Summer Slaughter this year and they all have extremely high regards for Necrophagist and Muhammed and agree that they are one of the best technical death metal bands in the business. It seems that it’s a very “popular” thing now for people to talk shit about Necrophagist, probably because they’re so damn good. As far as Grossman and Muenzer and Obscura goes, they left simply because they wanted their own creative freedom. There’s nothing wrong with that. Listen to Obscura. It’s no wonder Muhammed didn’t give them any creative freedom in Necrophagist. Their material sounds nothing like Necrophagist and doesn’t fit with the sound. They even said themselves, their songs are pretty straightforward and there really isn’t any complex song structure. Obscura is decent, but are nowhere near as good as Necrophagist. Actually fuck it, I don’t need to justify or defend this band. Necrophagist owns all.

    you guys are arguing about some stupid shit first off necrophagist is not boring theyre amazing and definitely the best at they do if you want emotion take a closer listen to the solos aolthough yes the overall songs could be a little more melodic maybe a crazy acousic switchup out of nowhere i dont know but as far as actual musicianship they tower over just about anyone yes even death/control denied atheist cynic into eternity or the other big technical bands and i am in no way bashing those bands theyre fucking gods especially chuck (does anybody know ant true info about machine and man collide yet im gonna die if i never hear that album)
    but when they are constantly touring thats probably how they feed themselves and switching up to a 7 string while still trying to expand on his guitar style which all technical insanity aside has a very unique note pattern and time change style plus all the lineup changes wether or not theyre his fault is gonna make this take a lot of time i agree hurry the fuck up but dont bash the guy and make up shit you think you know about him. just to reitterate and avoid hate comments i was not bashing death cynic or any others chucks songs lyrics and style are my favorite ever so dont think i hate those bands or anythung

    I dont get whats all teh fuzz about the new album. Yes i do want it just as bad, but honestly, im quite satisfied with the old material as it is And it bothers me more that ill probably never see them live than whther the new alb is coming out this year or not.
    And guess what, im pretty sure well have the new alb by January at most.

    I personally believe Muhammed is actually an alien from a distant planet who came to our planet to grace us with beautifully intricate music. He can take his (its) sweet time. Time to roll out with the seven strings.
