KATAKLYSM VERSUS MEGADETH

I don’t have much context for this story, but that’s okay, ’cause you won’t need much to understand it. Yesterday Kataklysm posted the following message on their Facebook page:

Which sounds about right. We don’t know which member of Megadeth it was, but I’d happily bet a great deal of money it was Dave Mustaine.

And what else is there to say? At this point, being surprised by stories of the Megadick is like being surprised that Slayer show featured no acoustic ballads. I suspect Mustaine will release some explanation of why this wasn’t Megadeth’s fault sometime soon, and it won’t make any fucking sense because a pretty picture painted in bullshit is still gonna be all brown and smelly, but a bunch of people will believe it anyway, ’cause they can’t accept that sometimes talented musicians are also shitty people. Ppppfffttt. Whatever.

    I love Megadeth, but damn man. Dave seriously does this crap so he can make statements about “how its not Megadeth’s fault” What a tool. STFU and make music man.

          It’s good guitar playing. It’s bad songwriting. Those riffs have no substance. My friends are huge Megadeth fans and thought it sucked too.

            Endgame= United abominations vol. 2.
            sure its better than the albums after youthanasia (maybe with the exception of system has failed) but that really isnt saying much and the songwriting is piss poor.

        Yeah really, I don’t know what the big deal was with Endgame. It was not bad, but as someone who never thought Megadeth was that strong anyways (especially in the songwriting department) it was a big let down.

        This blog probably hyped it too much for me too…

    I understand that Mustaine is known for being a dick and this just seems like a typical Mustaine move, but wouldn’t it be nice to at least hear a full story before jumping all over the “facts” in this Facebook post? You also prove yourself to be just as stupid as the people that will automatically believe the Mustaine side of the story by stating you would automatically disbelieve it.

    That was at Heavy MTL this week-end….and it was so awesome. Kataklysm was way better than Megadeth that day, in my opinion

    the context is the Heavy Mtl festival Day 1 this past Saturday in Montreal. 13 bands in 10 hours. Slayer, Alice Cooper and Megadeth finished the day, in that order. Kataklysm played at 3 PM and Megadeth started at about 9h30 so I’m not sure how both bands got on the same cart or something. big deal. You should have posted an article on the festival or something, not that sht

    Why can’t people let Mustaine be a genius and grade-A asshole at the same time? That’s HIM. That’s his identity and metal would be a boring place without his massive ego. I mean, think about it. Do you really want Megadave to be modest and compassionate and all that? He also wrote ‘Poison Was The Cure’ and ‘My Last Words’, so whatever he says or does will not affect the fact that he is one of the most important figures in metal. There’s nothing wrong with making fun of the dude, but ignorant comments like ‘Megadeth blows’ or whatever are just plain retarded.

      not really, mustain is a HORRIBLE vocalist, a SLOPPY lead player and his riffs come of as very lackluster. i think saying megadeth blows is an understatement and there is never an excuse to being a douchebag. he’s not good enough to be a douchebag, now if mikael akerfeldt or fredrick thordendal or ihsahn were douchebags it would be perfectly understandable. they are actually geniuses.

        Besides how many that read this blog play music and can relate to an undeniable fact that any and all singers are total look at me and bow down douchebags? I have not played in a band in 30 years of playing music that i didnt want to set my singer on fire for being an egotistical cockmuncher.

        Do you think “Peace Sells…” was written by a nice, born-again christian, wholesome homebody? FUCK NO!     If the band that was slagged reports the incident itself, it lends itself to some degree of truth. Perhaps Mr. Mustaine would like a limo-driven golf cart with blackened windows so as not to have to be associated with such lesser people? Sounds like Charles WInchester of metal to me.
    Of course, snubs are legendary, as is stage sabotage to opening acts. At the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, the Who was scheduled to go on after the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and one of its members said something to the effect that they weren’t following any n-word onstage.
    It got back to Hendrix, who did a mindblowing set, complete with the first time of lighting his Strat at the end of “Wild Thing”. The Who did follow, and later at a local airport, Pete Townsend approached Hendrix and said “I’d like to have a piece of that guitar you smashed” to him. Hendrix just glowered at Pete and said, “Sure, and I’ll autograph it for you, honky.”
    This story is from a fabulous Hendrix biography “Scuse Me While I Kiss The Sky” by David Henderson.
    Point is, Mustaine is no Hendrix or even Townsend as far as I’m concerned, and his snobbish behavior is pure bullshit. You’d think that kind of attitude belonged at a country club, not a metal show.

      Hm…pretty much. Megadeth isn’t a small-time band, but they’re definitely not in the Slayer/Metallica/Pantera league of old-school legends. Megadeth’s always seemed like the grade-school version of the big thrash bands, at least to me – tagging along but never really doing anything well enough to distinguish themselves as a band that deserves “history status” respect. Why Mustaine believes his ego deserves to be as large as it is defies logic.
