ANIMALS AS LEADERS STROKE MY SUMMER SLAUGHTER BONER

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010 at 1:00pm by

I completely, 110% share Metal Injection’s enthusiasm for seeing Animals as Leaders at Summer Slaughter this coming Sunday, for I was also at their SXSW performance and my mind, like Rob’s, was also shattered into a thousand little puny pieces by the superior super-human ability of Tosin Abasi and co. As we’ve said ad nauseam the Summer Slaughter lineup this year is absolutely stacked and I’m excited to see all the bands (except for one), but Animals as Leaders are definitely THE band I’m most pumped to watch. I’ll be rocking out up front and screaming like a little school girl fapping away in the corner as this band of extraordinarily talented gentlemen display their extraordinary musical powers… and somehow I’m gonna have to find a place to burn a doobie before their set. Hey, Summer Slaughter bands, if you wanna do a little puffin’ with Axl and Vince this Sunday, we’ll supply the greens if you supply the locale!

Here they are performing “CAFO” at the Summer Slaughter stop in Fort Worth, TX. Fuck yeah to the guy up front who’s doing windmills despite the fact that the band isn’t playing in any discernible time signature whatsoever for more than a few seconds at a time.

Summer Slaughter rolls through your town soon! Get dates for the MetalSucks-sponsored tour here.

seriously, windmilling or crowdsurfing to this music is just fucking retarded.

    • >_>

I have to agree, the guy windmilling looked out of place and I saw a few people in the crowd look at him like “wtf?” ok so thats almost everyone in the crowd that can see him, but I can’t notice them all.

    Tosin Abasi just destroys

    • Girth Brooks

      what he said

  • Yeah, It’s Me Again…

Too much of a leaning toward Meshuggah will make any band suck in my personal opinion, no matter how skilled the musicians are outside of playing hijacked riffs and awkward time signatures…

If you want a band that doesn’t rely on meshuggah-isms to create their foundation and are every bit as capable with guitarists that only require shredding six … check out Journal.

    • Girth Brooks

sounds like a Dillinger song to me

    • HorizonsOfChaos

Journal is awesome. I’ve been listening to Unlorja nonstop since I got a hold of it. These dudes deserve a lot more hype.

I also do AAL as well.

      • Yeah, It’s Me Again…

Yeah, I agree that they deserve a lot more hype… but this site’s track record shows that they won’t even bother with any band unless their ‘faithful readers’ email them repeatedly about the band, to the point that they get so sick of hearing about a band that they take a quick break from blowing mastodon and metal blade and kissing 9/10′s of Sumerian’s rosters ass (and AAL’s) to post a blurb about it.

And I forgot to note before… AAL is actually the one band that seriously doesn’t fit on the Summer Slaughter bill. Even if Carnifex isn’t the greatest, at least they “fit”… I’d rather hear generic deathcore on Summer Slaughter than a full on instrumental band. And there is no shortage of bands that could have been added to this trek that would have been better suited for it than AAL. That’s just my take on it though…

        • The Jazz Guy

Id rather hear good music rather than shitty music. Who cares if it “fits” or not. It’s as good or better than any of the bands on the bill. I’m a huge fan of Decrepit Birth, Decapitated, Faceless, Red Chord etc. but AAL is what grabbed my attention and told me that I HAVE to go to this show.

I’d rather see Charlie Hunter or Scott Henderson on the bill instead of carnifex haha. (If you don’t know who those guys are, don’t hurt your feeble mind trying to comprehend them).

        • Slaughterhouse

I agree w/ Jazz Guy…who gives a shit if it fits w/ the other bands. I for one like to go to a show when all the bands don’t sound the same. That makes for a good show.

how dare anybody compare these guys to meshuggah. these guys are actually good.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dave-Colbert/535041444 Dave Colbert

If you don’t think Meshuggah is talented, you are a complete moron. Period.

  • http://myspace.com/whitearmsofathena Josh

We got there right after they played, FUCK. AND Decrepit Birth didn’t play!

    • MeesterDerp

      Why didn’t Decrepit Birth play?

      • Scatt

Decrepit Birth never plays. They missed out on their Houston show too.
Which makes it the fourth time they haven’t showed up to a gig in Houston.

      • Steve O

Their drummer had a death in the family and so he had to fly out to a funeral so they’ve missed a few shows, they’re on the tour still though.

growling the name of the song is so stupid

    • Matt

When you’re playing at summer slaughter I’m guessing it’s kinda the norm

  • Ryan Marsh

your more excited for them than decapitated?!

  • MeesterDerp

    Saturday can’t come soon enough.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dan-Roshin-Wolfson/557092638 Dan Roshin Wolfson

I’m going this saturday as well. get high with me.

  • slowmotion

Yup, can’t wait for Saturday. I think this band goes on early enough that re-admission will still be allowed so I’ll probably be stepping out for a “drive around the block” before they go on myself.

      Count me in!

  • Carl

Tosin growling is funny, but I’m hoping they remain instrumental. Words can only take away from music this wild. Which is why I think Behold…The Arctopus > Psyopus

  • Ryd1ZZ

I saw the first show in San Diego and AAL was excellent. ASP stole the show though, they were perfect!

  • Jeremy

They blew away everyone last night at Summer Slaughter in Fort Lauderdale. Hands down. Most of the bands were pretty tight, but Tosin Abasi is outrageous.

  • gnarlk

are those annoying guitar sweeps the new pinch harmonic or something?

  • Sambo

I envy ALL of you that are able to go to Summer Slaughter this year. It’s not hitting Vegas this year, and that’s sad considering half of the bands on the bill are bands everyone would see here, and by that, I mean the deathcore bands. I really wanna see AAL so badly but nope!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catt-Mooper/864625407 Catt Mooper

Get ready for disappointment, they’ll only play 3 songs

  • Ty

    CAFO fucking rules

  • Jeremy

Yea. They only played like three songs. But they ruled. On another note, Decapitated, The Faceless, and All Shall Perish owned!

  • Jordan Spencer

Was running late and thought I wouldn’t see them at all in Atlanta but managed to catch CAFO. What is ridiculous is their set was only 15 minutes because my friend messaged me when they started and I got their shortly after and they were like this is our last song……
So incredible though. Met everyone back stage. Even saw Navene give someone a drum lesson on playing CAFO. Great guys, great instrumentalists.

  • Perpetual Black Screen Name

Saw them in Hollywood. They were absolutely amazing. And they played ‘Made Out of Babies’. I almost came. lol By far one of the best new bands out there and one of the most played albums in my collection. And I love how as soon as a band plays 8 strings, they get compared to Meshuggah left and right. I love me some Meshuggah. They are most definitely one of my top five favorite bands in the world. But Animals is their own thing. That’s what makes them awesome. Their diversity, in a scene full of imitation. Fuck anyone who doesn’t like this band. You’re an idiot.

    • Perpetual Black Screen Name

Hahaha Correction, Wave of Babies. I just read something about Made out of Babies and I had a one track mind right there. lol

  • Bilbsy

im so pissed the SF show is the day i start fucking school…….

    • wilson

Sounds like a good reason to miss school

  • aldo rains

Am i the only musicians that question if they’re going to play after watching them. I dont think anyone in animal as leaders was a beginner in there instrument. They all just said “what’s this a guitar, huh, …it’s easy to play”.
