SO I GUESS ROB ZOMBIE WON’T BE PLAYING OZZFEST AGAIN

Ozzy Osbourne and Rob Zombie used to be friends and occasional tour mates, united by shared history of starting successful solo careers after first fronting successful bands, a tenuous connection to horror movies and all things Evil, and their mainstream appeal to meatheads everywhere.

But now 50% of Ozzy’s band consists of ex-members of Zombie’s band — that would be bassist Blasko and drummer Tommy Clufetos — and because Rob wanted to make my day, he got catty about Ozzy poaching his members in a recent interview. The video is above (the smack talk starts around the 54 second mark), but here’s a transcription of what he said:

“I think there’s ways to do things and I think there’s ways to not do things and I think the way they’ve chosen to do things is not how I would do things; I think it’s kind of rude. I mean, if my guys that I have wanna go play with other people, that’s fine; I don’t own them. But I think there’s ways to do things in a respectful way and there’s ways to just be shitty, and I feel that the way things have gone down lately has been pretty shitty. But whatever… What comes around goes around. But I’m just happy because every time I’ve lost somebody, I’ve gotten somebody ten times better, so I’m thankful for that. So if somebody’s band wants to be made up of my cast-offs, enjoy.”

Wow. He just referred to some pretty talented musicians as “my cast-offs.” Harsh.

Look: I know I give Zombie a lot of shit for his crappy movies, but other than the fact that it all gets kinda redundant after awhile, I really have nothing against the guy’s music. And he puts on a really, really fun live show — I completely understand why he’s as successful as he is. And he seems to be pretty much straight shootin’ here: he’s not so stupid as to think that anyone would prefer to play for him instead of Ozzy (’cause I’m sure playing for Rob pays, but I’m also sure playing for Ozzy PAYS, y’know?), he’s just saying, “Be polite about how you leave.” Which is perfectly valid.

Of course, I really have no idea how things went down behind-the-scenes; Blasko and Clufetos could be watching this interview right now, scratching their heads, going “What the fuck is talking about?” It’s possible that Rob’s just pissy. Hopefully we’ll get the Camp Osbourne side of the story soon.

    I saw Zombie’s show in Camden, and as always the stage was massive and impressive and the band was solid. I just wish Rob wouldn’t run around so much so he could actually sing the songs. Not that it’s new (he’s always cared more about being everywhere on stage than catching his breath), but it’d love to hear the songs performed correctly.

    What? Oh yea. On stage flames are great.

    but no one knows that, they just knew he has a new album out,….

    just like no one knows it was gonna be called soul sucka (which isnt a shot at Zakk Wyld at all)

    i love ozzy, everyone does, but damn… hes certainly not paying much attention to his business relationships…. bah who cares, hes gonna die soon anyway. BOOM!

      ya never know when your time is up. Ozzy’s fantastic in concert, the band is tight, he’s creating awesome music in the studio. he doesn’t know anything BUT rock n roll. if he wants to go out onstage, can you roll with that? he’s Ozzy. 40 years now. he’s the king!

    the same thing happened to Ozzy when Robert Trujillo left for Metallica. Then of course Ozzy did fire Zakk Wylde then hired Gus G. i don’t know, i guess these things just kind of happen. Makes you wonder what’s going on with Ozzy’s head. if he’s really being an asshole and stealing band members to further his own career a bit more knowing he can get who he wants because he’s Ozzy Osbourne. Or if Sharon put him up to it. Or frankly, Ozzy just has no idea wtf he’s doing. i don’t know. interesting clip. not sure if i would’ve picked joey jordison. but you know, whatever works.

      Ozzy is a gentleman. ask any one of the musicians who’ve worked with the man. read the biographies and interviews out there…Sarzo, Jake E Lee, Zakk, Torme, Vai … he’s a very nice man, someone they all have a great deal of respect and love for and who they enjoyed working with.

      in light of that it’s amazing the venom expressed on this site and on Blabbermouth for the man. a serious dose of respect is due, big time. where would we all be if Ozzy had not riveted the rock genre with the infamous words of Sabbath? we surely wouldn’t be on a hard rock/metal forum bitching like this would we. he’s been a multi-platinum recording artist not just within Sabbath, but solo too. 40 years and counting.

      he’s sober, and has been for 6 years. his show is HOT, he is HOT, his band is TIGHT and HOT. why not give the man a listen and stop spewing speculation. how can you review a book you’ve not read recently? Seriously.

    Zombie always seems to get raw talent. Blasko. Tempesta. Clufetos. Now he has Jordison. John 5. Piggy D is damn good too. But yea it does seem the Ozzy camp does get his bandmembers.

      if your wife did as much for you as this woman has for Ozzy you’d be thanking her. it’s a dual edged sword with Sharon though. she’s done fantastic things, but she’s done equally malicious and career destroying things to Ozzy too. Stuff that for many can’t be remedied.

      Just wonder why nobody ever puts themselves in Ozzy’s shoes. Parkins, frontal lobe damage from the ATV accident, changes in his mobility, and the shame he had from those things being his to deal with ALL RECORDED ON FUCKING PRIME TIME? Jesus. No wonder he ended up on 43 pills a day.

      Sharon should have shut off the fucking camera’s.
