AN AWESOME NOT-REALLY-METAL BUT STILL PROGGY/COOL FALL TOUR

If you’re a prog nerd and this lineup doesn’t get your balls tingling, I’m not sure what will. Circa Survive are a contentious band ’round these parts — you’d be right to say they aren’t really metal (and hey fuck you it’s my website i’ll write about what I want to) but wrong to say they aren’t really good – will embark on a headlining tour in October and November with fellow weirdos in excellence Dredg, the recently reunited Codeseven, and… wait for it… Animals as Leaders!

Dredg are one of my most favoritest bands of the ’00s… dark, complex, rhythmic, atmospheric, fantastic through and through, and always fun to see live (that pouty drummer dude? like woah can he play). I’ve yet to see Circa Survive live but I’ve been a fan over the past couple albums and totally understand why people are nuts over these guys. And Animals as Leaders… well, we know how I feel about them. Codeseven are the one wildcard, but so many people I know who have good taste in music are beyond psyched about this reunion and I’ll take their word for it, plus, if they’re associated with these three other bands they’ve gotta be aight. And what I’m hearing now on their MySpace sounds great.

How will side-swooped haircut Circa fans react to Tosin Abasi’s shred? That oughtta been fun to watch.

Get dates below. Get nerdy at the show.

Leave my side swooped hair cut alone.

  • Robert Escue

And no Virginia dates? What is up with that?

  • BabiesKillYou

Well I saw Dragonforce at the chance in Poughkeepsie, but that city seriously can suck my scrotum. And NYC, you have the special role of punching my dirt star with your tongue. Guess I’m out :(

    • TheSkunkCatcher

      agreed, poughkeepsie shows suck

  • Matt

Dredg and Animals as Leaders together is going to be tits, especially if they play a lot of stuff off of El Ceilo

    • JimmyBagODonuts

exactly what i was going to say

  • Christian

    Will definitely be attending 11/26.

    • http://www.sciencelost.com ScienceLost

      You and me both.

  • steelie

I want to like Circa Survive but I find the vocals incredibly irritating. Shame, as I’ve always liked their instrumentation

This isn’t the first time Circa Survive and Dredg are touring together; as a matter of fact, first time I ever heard of CS was when I saw them open for Dredg about four or five years ago (perhaps it was vice versa in who opened for who, my memory is cloudy). Should be a good time.

Dredg are one of my all-time favorite bands; each release brings something completely fresh to the table and I have immense respect for any band who continues to evolve rather the remain stationary (though there are plenty of bands in the latter realm who I adore — *cough* SLAYER *cough*). I’m not familiar with AAL or that other band but if either/or is half decent, everyone will be in for one hell of a show.

Oh, as a side note, seeing as how Dredg is currently writing new material for an early 2011 release date, whoever attends will be sure to hear some new tunes since the band is known for providing fans with a taste of what’s to come.

Augh! No Toronto date? First Karnivool, now these guys. We like metal up here too!

  • kmfcm

    *sigh*
Will this band ever get on a tour with more than one other good band?

    • kmfcm

In fact, they just had a tour with Between the Buried and Me and Veil of Maya

      Awesome fucking lineup

      Didn’t hit New York

      At all

Anytime they come this way, you have to sit through fucking iwresltedacarnifex.

They also are touring with Deftones, but thats not hitting NY either.

  • Sambo

Your Myspace link takes you to the AAL blog post. Might wanna fix that.

Other than that, your typical kind of tour that I would like to see that does not hit Vegas.

  • Steve O

Never heard of Dredg before, any particular album that’s good to check out for a first-timer?

    • JimmyBagODonuts

I personally enjoy Leitmoitif and Orph… Orph is just 3 songs but they’re amazing… El Ceilo is also great… just a different vocalist with no screaming involved…

      • fart

        um… same vocalist

  • KC

October 19th. . . i’m there. C7 reunion show in NC, basically means that its a hometown show and they’ll prolly play some old shit. Awesome. I would kill to hear Steady State played live.

CS survive are hardly prog. simplistic crappy with whiny vocals makes me think i’m listening to Good Charlotte.

    • Tomledo

nice grammar. go ahead and take a closer look at colin frangicetto’s and brandon ekstom’s guitar work.

  • brent

Really wish this tour would come down to the valley of the damned (AZ, the most hated place on the planet right now.) I know precious little about Circa Survive, but the other 3 are fantastic. As much as I love AAL, I would probably be most excited to see Codeseven, as I got into them just as they broke up.

What’s that one song called?? It goes something like this “When I was watching Circa Survive, Tosin Abasi got up on stage and did a solo.. AND I JIZZED IN MY PANTS!”
