EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: DRAGONFORCE’S “SPIRIT WILL GO ON” THROUGH THEIR LIVE ALBUM

You really just can’t say no to the over-the-top theatrics of DragonForce, so when Roadrunner Records offered us the opportunity to premiere to the world “My Spirit Will Go On” from DragonForce’s forthcoming live album Twilight Dementia we just couldn’t resist.

The track originally comes from the band’s pre-Roadrunner 2004 release Sonic Firestorm, but of course the new live album, which comes out on September 14th, features tracks from the band’s entire career. It’ll also be the last DragonForce release to feature recently dismissed vocalist ZP Theart, not that we can really say we think DragonForce are any better or worse for it — ’cause it’s all about the other dudes in the band, right?

    ive had the unfortunate experience of watching dragonforce live. and it sucks… alot. this will probably be the shittiest live cd ever released, cause they cant play live at all. its kinda sad.

    I still like DragonForce. I never bothered with “Ultra Beatdown,” since I figured (and figured correctly) that is was just Sonic Firestorm Pt. III. The first two albums I still throw on from time to time.

    I wonder if this live album’s songs “from the band’s pre-Roadrunner 2004 release” will include any of the racist bullshit from Demoniac (a band that included 2 current and 2 former members of Dragonforce). Maybe they’ll play “Hatred is Purity” from their album Stormblade. That’s the one with the lyrics that go “Aliens invade this place, white man stand up for your race”.

    I mean, I know the singer who (presumably) wrote those lyrics isn’t in Dragonforce, but that didn’t stop them from asking his racist ass to do guest vocals on “Inhuman Rampage”. Maybe they’ll follow it up with Demoniac’s “Nig*erslut”. That would be a treat.

      No, it does not include Demoniac material. Why would it? Why even bring the question up, except to troll? Demoniac has nothing to do with Dragonforce other than having involved some of the members before they became Dragonforce. (Fortunately, they moved on to much better things). I’ve found no evidence of anything resembling hate or racism (or any social commentary for that matter) in Dragonforce’s material. They are one of the cleanest bands around. Their music is pure fun, and they play for the joy of creating and performing. They don’t take themselves as seriously as everyone else seems to. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn’t understand them. I admire them greatly for their talent and attitude.

    At least it’s from one of their first two decent albums, not the video game jerkoff shit that was done entirely in Pro Tools of the latter two.

    Can we all please stop saying Herman Li and Sam Totman don’t know how to play? They are both phenomenal guitarists that could probably rape your favorite band’s guitarist. The thing is they just don’t know how to utilize their talent efficiently (read: not in a *now* very poor and creatively bankrupt power metal band). And I mean efficiently as in creating coherent and challenging music, not wankery that 14 year old pimple faced nerds eat up on Guitar Hero ’cause the lord knows the amount of dough they’re rolling in (for a metal band anyways).

    Well, it’s Dragonforce. Love ‘em or hate ‘em (well.. you all seem to hate ‘em), but I like them, kinda. They definitely bring the lulz whereever they go.
    This song is awesome, but ZP def has some problem during the high parts.

    I like them a lot. Herman though is kind of rough since he asked my friend at the soundtest for a gig at fryshuset in Stockholm back in 2006 or so:
    -Who´s that fat guy over there???
    Did NOT feel good but the drummer and Sam were really good to us that night…

    Well, i love their attitude and Herman is talented enough to appear among all the famous guitarists. Sam got my totally respect as he is with “his feet on the ground” although he fly up on the scenes ;)

    one day i´ll ask my friends when i see them over a beer or 2: -Who´s that “asslong hairy laundry-chinese? just to get even with the gorgious little nintendo jammin´guitar-man…hehehehe ;)

    I love Dragonforce. I know they are the Stilton of metal.
    To all you who say that DF cannot play live, they can. I have seen them 8 times.
    All of their own gigs in medium sizesd venues (like the late Astoria) were amazing. All of the times I have seen them at festivals, and as support bands, they sounded shit!
    Basically, I will get this.
    Soldiers of the Wasteland from the Sonic Firestorm album was the first dance at my wedding.
    The lyrics ‘In Unity We Feel No pain’ from ‘Prepare for War’ are engraved in the wedding rings of myself and my Wife.
    Dragonforce have been a massive part of my life for at least 6 years.

    Dragonforce are my favourite band by far!

    And BTW, I loved the Virtual On – Temjin’ theme as an outro for the gigs last year!

    I love Dragonforce’s studio albums, but this? It doesn’t totally suck, but its much worse than the studio version. I guess they are just not good at playing live. But I still like Dragonforce

    i love the band, but im not going to start anything with anyone on here. so i’ll say this. no matter how much yall hate dragonforce, how much u think their music sucks, fact is, they will make more money in one show than any of you will in ur entire lives. so its not like yall can really give the guys crap. i bet that this album will go in to millions in sales within the first couple of months

      Hahahaha thank you, so much.. this made my morning!! I’ve seen DF in a small venue in Scotland and they were fucking immense.. was an amazing night!! ZP was singing really well and the rest of the band were playing like hell. To the haters, just because you don’t like what they play, doesn’t mean they aren’t good. These guys make difficult music, so it’s not the easiest to replicate live! get over yourselves.

    After I heard ZP left, I was thinking that the band would go sown, but I actually am digging the new singer. He is really good. He adds a nice gritty feel that the band needed!

    Show some respect, They are the greatest band in the world, thanks to Herman Li, and Sam Totman I learn how to play guitar… Thanks to Vadim Pruzhanov, now I play the keyboard… Thanks to Federic, and Dave, I would like to learn how to play the bass guitar, and the drums…. thank to ZP Theart, now I sing metal, and thanks to them, now Im having my band, and its called “VikinghearT”….. and they teach me how to be patient, because I live in Puerto Rico, and since 2003 Im waiting for them.

    Dragonforce is extremely talenetd whether you like it or not as SP420 said. As for stereotypers who say they suck live, they used to and don’t any more. It took a ridiculous long time, but they finally got the hang of their own shit, which is sad, but at least they’ve proved their shit isn;t fake like dumb asses think.

    Ahh, the song that got me in to DragonForce way back when… this brings back memories! They didn’t play it when I caught their set at Graspop last year, pricks…

    Anyway, this sounds a lot better than I expected. Not fantastic by any means, but still. If there’s a healthy amount of material from their first two albums, I might consider downloading a torrent or something…

    i dont know why people say this sucks, just because it sounds different doesnt mean they didnt play well, i didnt hear them make ANY mistakes in the music, just the sound of their guitars are different than the sound they got in their studio, they played the song perfectly, the only thing is ZP was straining his voice

    I actually dig this version, is pretty cool. ZP needed to stfu when there were sections without vocals though. I could swear it’s edited like all hell because they suck ass from what I’ve seen before. If not, well done to them because this is heaps more solid than normal.

    Might be a fun album, I’ll try and have a listen. DF are a guilty pleasure.
