UPDATED WITH VIDEO! MUSTAINE ANNOUNCES BIG FOUR U.S. TOUR?

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010 at 10:40am by

Longtime reader Ryan Wineman sent be the below e-mail in the wee hours of this morning. Ryan has been pretty dependable in the past, so I’m inclined to believe that if he says this happened, it happened. That being said, YOU SHOULD OBVIOUSLY TREAT THIS AS RUMOR UNTIL THE BANDS SAY SOMETHING OFFICIAL, because while it’s very exciting news, Dave Mustaine shouting it out on-stage does not mean it’s a sure thing.

Here’s Ryan’s e-mail:

So, I just returned from an excellent show at the Cow Palace today.  At one point during Megadeth’s set, Mustaine said something along the lines of…
“We’re going to do something we don’t do very often…”
“Who wants to see the Big Four in the United States?”
“We were asked to do this song….in celebration of the big four coming to the United States.”
If anyone caught this statement on video, please let us know. In the meantime, let’s keep our fingers crossed…
UPDATE: Here’s video of the statement, courtesy Metal Injection. Skip to the 3:05 minute mark…

So what song did he do in celebration of said tour? Just out of curiosity, if anyone knows..

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Austin-Pearl-Nutter/1418565949 Austin Pearl Nutter

      Hit the Lights.

      • Goro923

No dude I think they played My Last Words. Dammit that’s my favorite song off of Peace Sells… why couldn’t they have played that during the whole tour?

        • Ryan W.

Yes, it was My Last Words

      • PeteShitSend

hahaha how did no one else spot this? great

Maybe he was on a Christian high and meant the four horseman of the apocalypse.

    • Alex_P

    • ben

      • vagoo

        smoooooooth :D

    • herp derp

      I hate you :| -1 downvote…. funny tho :3

  • TreE

it was for the song My Last Words. At least according to metalsetlists.com

  • Harold

Yea I heard that too there, it was an awesome concert, with the exception of Jeff’s solo’s it was one of the best concerts this year!

There is too much money to be made by those old dudes for them to NOT do it.

man. Hahneman has been just a complete mess lately.

    • vic

If you read the slayer edition of revolver jeff and kerry explain why their solos are different. even the drums have a bit of a different sound in parts.

  • LoomeyTunes

That is nothing new. If you have read Guitar World, or Revolver for oh I dont know the last THREE MONTHS they have talked about it in every issue. They are predecting sometime in 2012. And according to Dave and Kerry KIng, it was all Lars’s idea and he wanted the tour to go on for a few more years. They are still in the planing phase from what I can gather from the articles. And according to Ross Halfin in this months Guitar World all camps involved are in talks. So lets hope it goes off without a hitch and tickets are not $100.00 each!! Lars is involved after all.

    • SP420

I forget where I saw it but it was an interview not too long ago with Scott Ian and he said that Lars approached him and Charlie about wanting to do the Big Four at a bar after a festival. So it most likely was his idea.

  • Brian Roach

yea, it’ll probably happen, but only if Metallica wants to do it. They could tour with me opening and make as much money as a ‘Big 4′ tour! They might do it for the coolness factor, but it’s all up to them!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kasper-Maigaard/1027001938 Kasper Maigaard

Yeah but I’d be perfectly happy with a The Big 3/4 Tour. Fuck Metallica.

      • Isaac

Well, that’s already happening later this year, so yeah.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Keith-Brown/537636633 Keith Brown

Man, I was working last night. Fuck Coffee, dude

  • engleprunt

I was there last night too. Dave definitely said that it would happen and I hope it does but I’ll believe it when I see tour dates officially posted.

What, nobody saying Testament should be in place of Anthrax yet?

    • Frampler

Testament should be in place on Anthrax.

Wait. Why do I care? I don’t even live in the US…

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ben-Alexander/1092891172 Ben Alexander

Exodus should be in place of Anthrax and Metallica.

      • SP420

        Please leave.

        • meat mincing machine

          Shut up retard he’s right

          • Isaac

Based on their recent material, I’d say he’s quite wrong. Not that it’s bad, but recent Testament trumps both recent Anthrax and recent Exodus, by far.

  • wha?

Make it a stadium tour and add Testament, Exodus and Death Angel to the bill.

  • sYgnal

    Maybe he was talking about:

“The Big Four Douche Bag Tour”

    Megadeth
    Great White
    Warrant
    Motley Crue

    • pigchop

Oh ho ho – you so so funny. Hoop your forehead.

      • sYgnal

WOW… Was that an Asian slag followed by some Gangsta slang?! I’m glad I had my “Wigga to English” dictionary handy….Fucking mental midget.

  • zen dudeist

Look for Guitar Hero: Big Four out soon

    • cougar party

      Funny, because it will happen.

  • Plantera

Overkill should be on that bill. I just saw Anthrax here in England and they were good with Belladonna.

  • erock

I was at this show as well. I didn’t really take it as an announcement, more of a “hey, cheer for us because we might do this thing.” I thought he was going to play The Mechanix but he didn’t.

Side note, Testament’s setlist sucked. Into the Pit, Practice What You Preach, and a shit ton of songs from the Formation of Damnation.

    • Isaac

I didn’t think so. Yeah, they had a lot of newer stuff, but they have the showmanship to make up for it. Plus, I really liked their new album, so there’s that.

  • Aled

Any chance they will come to australia?

  • http://www.espyrock.com Michael

Had an email from Borivoj Krgin of Blabbermouth about it and his reply, “I was told James and Lars were on the side of the stage and Mustaine was playfully pushing the issue with the crowd. That’s all.”

  • Sid

yeah, I just saw him live and he didn’t mention it. and he really seemed to like us. the seattle crowd was so into the megadeth set that they had like, no energy left for slayer. which is something I thought I’d never see.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kevin-DiSclafani/562230302 Kevin DiSclafani

anyone else surprised at the good quality of the video?

  • dan nash

for the lkife of me, i dont see how anyone can say testiclment is better than anthrax. they are nothing more than a leeway ripoff. i really dont give a shit about the big four, im getting to see the 3/4s later in oct.

While I agree that both Testament and Exodus should be involved in a Big Four tour, I think they keep laying the premise on the four biggest bands of the Thrash era in terms of popularity. Exodus was first wave without question, but still very underground. Testament was second wave, but still a worthwhile contender for attention. Maybe we will be lucky and a Big Four tour will be one of those all day events that has a second stage for other bands of note to perform on before all of the others take to a main stage. That could work really well when you think of it. I hope it happens even if it comes off as all three bands serving as openers for Metallica. They are all getting older, so give something insane back to the fans that are still supporting them.
