NEW DEVIN TOWNSEND MUSIC NEXT WEEK?

CORRECTION: Ghost is the fourth album in the series and Deconstruction the third. Thanks to commenter metallicbrain for pointing out my mistake.

Devin Townsend is an eternally busy man. Amidst all the talk of Heavy Devy’s pending U.S. headline tour with Tesseract, his performance of Ziltoid in Finland and his run with BTBAM and Cynic earlier this year it’s been easy to lose track of the fact that he’s still got two albums left to release in his promised suite of four (not to mention Ziltoid Part Two). And somehow, some way, he’s found time to write Ghost, the third album in the series, and hinted via his Twitter account today that we’ll get to hear a sample next week. If you read this site at all you know that this news makes our balls tingle in a very special way.

But don’t get too excited; as Axl reported in July, we’re supposedly gonna have to wait until March 2011 to get the full record. Actually, do get excited: Devin says we’ll also be getting the fourth and final Devin Townsend Project album, Deconstruction — which promises to be the heaviest of them all — in March as well.

      yeah, it’s an easy mistake to make though since he’s recording Ghost first and they’ll be released simultaneously iirc. but he’s said that Deconstruction is intended to be the third album and ghost is intended to be the fourth. something about the progression from muted intensity (Ki) to loud stompy metal (Addicted) to really heavy/dissonant/crazy stuff (Deconstruction) and then it resolves with a really quiet, calm, eerie album.

      i think Dev originally planned Addicted to be the third album way back when he was first announcing everything in 08, but i like it better this way. i can’t wait to hear what he’s working on.

    Good grief, I know it’s been straightened out now but Deconstruction has been announced as the third album ever since Devin first started doing interviews for these albums.

    Sheesh, it can’t possibly be that hard to get your facts right can it?

    I’m actually dissappointed that we aren’t getting these this year, I’m guessing because of Dev’s touring and Ziltoid stuff. I like the Ziltoid album a lot and I definately want to hear the next one, but I hate that it’s at the expense of the other two albums.

    Of course maybe Hevy Devy needs the space inbetween to give each album their proper attention.

    I trust he knows what works best for him, and I can’t wait to hear it.

      i don’t think ziltoid is on the table yet. decon and ghost only got delayed because he decided he wanted to get back into touring. i wouldn’t expect him to start working on z2 until 2012 or so

    Devin’s recording these in reverse in case anybody didn’t know. Ghost then Deconstruction. Can’t fucking wait for either of them.

    Having been to one of his acoustic shows, I can tell you some of the ghost stuff is chilling in all of the best ways. I’m pretty sure the majority of you guys won’t like it (no offense or anything, it’s just very different from even Devy metal, let alone the majority of tastes on this site) but if you’re the kind of person who can enjoy some folk or mellow stuff, there’ll be plenty for you to chew on.

    Of course that’s just based on the 4 songs or so from the album I’ve seen played.
