A PERFECT CIRCLE OFFICIALLY BACK IN BUSINESS

Monday, September 13th, 2010 at 10:14am by

Listen, I don’t think this is gonna come as a galloping shock to anyone given all the talk there’s already been about A Perfect Circle returning from their hiatus/break-up/whatever, but we just got a press release making it official. The band is apparently gonna get this party started with a five-city tour in the fall:

Shows in Phoenix (Marquee Theatre), Los Angeles (Avalon), Seattle (Showbox at The Market) and San Francisco (The Fillmore) will be three-night stops with each night featuring one of A Perfect Circle’s three albums in its entirety (Mer de Noms, Thirteenth Step and eMOTIVe).  Las Vegas (The Pearl) will be a two-night outing (Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step).

The band will also play Jimmy Kimmel on October 27.

Two quick and random thoughts:

  • The press release doesn’t say who will be in the line-up for this latest incarnation of APC; obviously Maynard James Keenan and Billy Howerdel will be involved, but beyond that… who knows. I assume that drummer Josh Freese is back, as he’s the band’s only constant besides their singer and guitarist/songwriter, and I assume that previous bassist Jeordie “Twiggy Ramirez” White will not be back, since he has since returned to Marilyn Manson. So is James Iha still in the fold? What about Paz Lenchantin? I know I’m, like, one of three people who care who else is in the group, but, y’know. I do care, so pppfffftttt.
  • Holy shit do I feel bad for the people who end up having to sit through eMOTIVe in its entirety. What a crock.

ANYWAY, presumably a new album and full tour will follow shortly. More info as we get it…

    From APC Twitter:
MJK, Billy, Josh Freese, James Iha, Matt McJunkins

Jeordie, Paz, and Troy all have awesome stuff going on that they couldn’t step away from. But all is well with them.

    • DICKANTS

Yeah, Paz is with the Entrance Band now. And considering how she left APC 8 years ago, I can tell she is much better off there now.

eMOTIVe fucking ruled. Passive? Counting Bodies Like Sheep? Cmon Axl, ya dun goofed.

    • Superhans

      I love eMOTIVe!

    • Matthew Grant Anson

I agree with Axl. Those are literally the only two good original songs.

    • Dirtman73

eMOTIVEe wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either. It was average, thus the suckiness attributed to it.

    • 10000 Gays

Bodies came from Pet so it wasn’t really that original a song

eMOTIVe was pretty horrible, and i think if youre a fan you should notice that / buy tickets for either of the other days.

    • OliFant

I also think that “eMOTIVe” was a killer album, and much better than “Mer de Noms” imo (hell, I even liked the remix CD from “aMOTION” better than “Mer de Noms”)…

      • Benito

better than Mer de Noms? yea, fuck you. “lets cover a bunch of shitty protest songs and throw on one new radio single, package it, and send it out with a holographic cover.” eMOTIVe was the most disappointing thing APC has ever done.

Judith single handedly kills everything on that record by itself!

    • DidgeryDo

eMOTIVE was the suck. This was mostly because the other two albums were so good and I’m drawing a relative comparison. I really thought it was on the level of Puscifier in the sense that if you have a passing interest in one you might be mildly interested in the other.

    • DidgeryDo

No. Axl is totally right. I mean as a stand alone effort you might say it’s better then say, Nickleback…Five Finger Death Punch…or whatever…but if you draw any relative comparison of that to the first two albums it is an epic epic epic fail.

i cannot begin to tell you how many blunts mer de noms and thirteenth step were the soundtrack to back in the day. this could be cool if they end up releasing an album thats nothing like eMOTIVe. that album blew all balls

    • DidgeryDo

I agree with that 100 percent. Soundtrack to bluntage and suckage of eMotive. I’m really glad that won’t go down in history as our last impression of APC.

  • Coop

Awesome news, but I’m disappointed Jeordie isn’t in this time. I love his bass playing on the albums, he compliments the band perfectly.

  • mahkiavelli

    Yawn. More Tool please…

    • ass

      APC >>>>>>>>>>> Tool

      • mj

        pussy>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ass

      • DidgeryDo

        TOOL >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> APC

Still APC is really good but c’mon….

        • legato

          i second this

Emotive was amazing. And to the guy that want more Tool. They are a great band and all but they have been doing the same stuff since the mid 90s. I personally think A Perfect Circle is a much better band over all and much more creative.

    • ZackP

yeah…..Undertow and Lateralus are pretty much the same album…….wtf?

      • halloway

        lol

and just for good measure, i’ll say “emotive sucks” because i doubt it can be said enough.

      • Oceanic7

      • 10000 Gays

if Tool were really the creative force everyone claims them to be they would be able to cover songs by other bands in an interesting and original way. and even make an album out of it!!!

        • DidgeryDo

I know that’s a sarcastic remark regarding eMotive but Tool did to Salival which had that awesome ( IMO) Led Zep cover….definitely better than any stupid Imagine re-imagining in the intoleralby obnoxious left wing era of the end of the Bush Presidency.

        • Ricky

Hopefully you read this since this post is like over a half year old.

I am not going to go on a long rant as to how wrong you are but I will just state the facts…

Tool covers others bands songs ALL THE TIME. Just go to one of their live shows. Off the top of my head:
          Holiday in Cambodia
          Commando
          No Quarter
          You Lied
          Spasm
          Stranglehold
          Some Days It’s Dark

Others too… these are just off the top of my head

      • DidgeryDo

I know and Aenima and Opiate are also identical to the others riiiight? GTFO Mer de Noms and 13th Step are more similar than the Tool albums are…
        and eMotive SUCKED!!!!!

I love APC but it will allways be Tool > APC

  • christian

    FUCK…YES!!!

  • Kazz

I love both APC and Tool, but I’ve always been a slightly bigger APC fan so this is awesome news. I had the same thoughts as Axl regarding eMOTIVe, not because it was really bad but because it wasn’t original material except for Passive. Anyway, if a new album comes from this that’s all I can ask for.

  • Al Solando

Im glad suckers will have to sit through shitty eMOTIVe for an entire hour because that album does indeed (relatively) suck balls compared to the first two.

  • msv81

Why the fuck does Maynard insist on postponing the new Tool record? Between that shit project Puscifer and now APC (the latter of whom are admittedly awesome but nowhere near the greatness of TOOL), when the hell is the new Tool album going to be recorded and released??

    This sucks.

  • DecrystallizingReason

God damn it Maynard, if you really want to spend all your time doing anything that isn’t Tool, just quit the band. The clock keeps ticking and none of us are getting any younger.

I say that as a fan of both bands.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ben-Robson/1375985482 Ben Robson

Tool have never been in a hurry to release anything. If Maynard was the only thing holding them back, they’d probably have kicked him out by now. He’s not irreplaceable.

      • Monkey Knife Fight

Are you fucking kidding me? Say what you like about Tool as a band, but to say that Maynard is replaceable is off the hook. I assume you’re saying that in some form of troll voice, to piss people off. I hope so.

        • Noel

theres no tool without maynard. danny carey is a genius, and the bassist [cant think of name] is also killer, but adam is admittedly not the most innovative guitarist. maynard fills in the melodic gap left by adams excessive effect board show. this is no disrespect to adam, but im just sayin..maynard pulls it together.

          • jibran

Dude, everyone is essential in APC, Adam defs included. Just because he doesn’t tap string-skipped arpeggios at 990bpm doesn’t mean he’s not good/innovative. I find Adam to be very unique in what he does for the band.

          • DidgeryDo

Justin Chancelor. I also agree. Each component of that band has something distinguishable to offer and I love how the contributions are so evenly spread out. How many tech death bands are out there that focus just on jamming as many notes into a bar as possible and neglect bass, desensitize you with blast beats and have indistinguishable lyrics that really woudnt add anything to experience even if you heard them. In short they have no atmosphere or soul. Tool is the complete package in the sense that everything adds cumulatively to a single coherrent vibe. Proabably my favorite band….

      • DidgeryDo

GTFO….I literally cannot imagine Tool without Maynard…

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-Yu/2207107 David Yu

    Great news!

  • MetalRod

Holy FUCKING SHIT! I’m gonna try and see all three shows in L.A.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Crunch-Valverth/521246222 Crunch Valverth

so Tool will be out for how much more time??

  • http://www.myspace.com/jay234t Brutal Jay

I’d rather have a new Tool album.

    • DidgeryDo

      Me too.

  • Sin and Death

Yeah, but, like, they’re not metal.
