EXCLUSIVE: JOE SATRIANI’S BLACK SWANS AND WORMHOLE WIZARDS, WEBISODE #1

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010 at 12:00pm by

Last week we told you about Joe Satriani’s new album Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards, which comes out October 5th on Epic. Now’s your chance to hear about it from the maestro himself.

In Part 1 of Satriani’s webisode series, released exclusively to MetalSucks, Satch shares how he came up with the album’s bizarre title, talks a bit about the studio in which it was recorded, what it’s been like for him working with his new band, and last but not least some fun footage of said new band jamming on a few tunes.

Love him or hate him, there are few rock or metal guitarists in the world as accomplished and respected as Satriani, and this webisode is a cool glimpse into the mind of a true master.

Love him or hate him? One may not like the shred genre and/or Joe Satriani’s contributions to it, but the man has done nothing in his personal or professional life, that I am aware of, to earn anyone’s hatred.

completely agree! met him a couple of times and he is the nicest guy you could meet!

Same here! He probably would have talked for an hour if he was allowed to do so. What celebrities do that, and take that much interest in their fans? None. Truly a great musician, and an ever greater person.

      +1, well put.

        +1,000,000
I met Joe last year for the first time having been a fan for 20 years and the most influential person for me personally as a guitarist and he was a really cool guy and this was midnight after one of his shows on his birthday when he probably just wanted to kick back and relax but he still took time to chat to everyone in the room.

Seriously? Joe is probably one of the most humble, and kind musicians out there, in ANY genre of music. Totally agree with M.’s comment– well put M. Inappropriate choice of wording by the author. But all word choice aside….JOE ROCKS! This album is going to KICK SOME SERIOUS ASS!

    WHO hates Satch?!

  • OldandTired

Saw him way back in ’88 on the Surfing With the Alien tour. Stu Hamm was playing base. Absolutely amazing show.

I think the last album of his I bought might have been The Extremist. Almost 20 years ago.

I think my tastes have changed a little since 1988, but I’ve still got a lot of respect for the dude.

Stu Hamm appears with the Satch band on the Live in SF DVD (after Crystal Planet), and until then I’d never seen a bass solo where someone basically plays the bass like a banjo. Quite the trip.

Hahaha that’s the metronome app that I use

Satch is easily the best guitarist on the planet right now! The only guitarist that woulda come close, well actually there’s 2, ones dead and the other very much alive, and they are Randy Rhoads and Steve Vai respectively!!!

    • Steve O

      Allan Holdsworth.

      • Altered Bestiality

Allan Holdsworth is a guitarist that has audible influence on metal, yet was never metal. Animals as Leaders and most notably Meshuggah take from his picking style (Meshuggah solos i guess)

That being said, Satch should invite him to the G3 tour cuz his 137 year old ass has more technique and soul than some of the dead weight we have been experiencing in guitarists today

“Love him or hate him, there are few rock or metal guitarists”……metal? I don’t think you know Satch.

lookin’ forward to his U.S Tour that’s gonna be my B-Day Present !
G3 will be back in 2011 ! hell yeah
