WAR FROM A HARLOT’S MOUTH ARE THE WONTON SOUP OF TECH-DEATHCORE

war from a harlot's mouth - mmxWhen it comes to ordering Chinese food lunch specials you’ve usually got three choices of soup to accompany your generic American-Chinese dish; wonton, egg drop, and hot and sour. When I was kid I was all about wonton soup and ordered it every time without fail. These days I’m usually an egg drop or hot and sour man; I like my egg drop with a little pepper in it, and presuming the hot and sour is actually both hot and sour it doesn’t need any doctoring at all. I am currently enjoying some wonton soup for the first time in a long time, though, and I gotta say, it’s pretty tasty! Don’t count those wontons out, my friends.

All of this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that War From A Harlot’s Mouth have posted a free stream and download of the new track “Recluse MMX.” I mean, uh, War From a Harlot’s Mouth are like the wonton soup of tech-deathcore… yeah, that’s it… this style of metal has been done plenty already but that doesn’t mean it still can’t be good from time to time. There; I started this post with the sole goal of talking about my chinese lunch soup preferences and I made a metaphor out of it that actually holds.

“Recluse MMX” comes from the band’s third album, MMX (that’s 2010 in Roman numerals), due November 19th via Lifeforce. Pre-order it here; wonton soup not included.

I liked their last album “In Shoals” Curious about the new one now

Meh. I really liked the manic, genre-crossing energy they had on Transmetropolitan, but these last two albums just don’t have that. A solid meh at best.

Exactly! I bought Transmetropolitan ages ago and was bloody impressed! I could listen to that album over and over! I recently realised that I hadn’t heard anything from them, and went to their myspace, only to find that they had changed vocalist and were suddenly, in my eyes, shit. Great. WHAT A WASTE!

  • SourDeez

Hot and Sour all the way.

  • DemonicLemming

Serious question – why the hell are you guys plugging deathcore/genericore so much these days, when a couple months ago any mention of the genre and bands associated with such brought forth tirades about how much it sucked?

There’s a lot of cool shit going on in other parts of metal, and while I’m sure more articles about Nevermore, Kamelot, Nightwish, and Amon Amarth aren’t going to make your basement-dwelling teat-suckling hardass post-emo deathcore high school readers happy, it’d at least offer a little diversification for those not interested in album-long breakdowns and choking-on-pig-shit vocals.

because they seem to be able to listen to music first before judging

      • Uglymicrowave

too bad all those bands he just named fucking blow

        • BC

          +1 to uglymicrowave

      • DemonicLemming

Evidently you’ve missed their “It’s Sumeriancore, so we don’t even have to listen to it to know we love it!” posts. Funnily enough, I say the inverse and Vince calls me a troll.

        • TheSkunkCatcher

uhm war from a harlots mouth arent really generic deathcore anyways…

How did you miss the 10,000 posts about Nevermore’s recent album?

these guys arent really deathcore anymore
    they haven’t been since transmetropolitan
(which im honestly not as much of a fan of as in shoals)
except in the sense that they have actual hardcore and death metal in their music
their music can be pretty mathy at times as well

    and with that being said
    these guys are fucking great
and im looking forward to this

in shoals was an interesting album, looking forward to the next one. hopefully the next time they tour the UK it’s with some better bands.
