THE MOST METAL THING EVER SO FAR THIS MONTH: SLAYER CROWD HELPS FAN IN WHEELCHAIR GET A BETTER VIEW OF THE SHOW

Monday, October 4th, 2010 at 11:30am by

Reader Tommy Smith sent us a link to the below video, with the following description:

“My buddy went to the Atlanta show and told me about the crowd lifting this guy up in his wheelchair at the Slayer show so he could see. Well, here’s the video (1:57 mark). It’s a testament to the brotherhood that exists between metal heads!”

Tommy, I could not have said it better myself. There is nothing more awesome than this:

Seriously, somebody should call the people who make those annoying “Kindness: Pass it on!” commercials and tell them about this shit.

    fucking awesome.

i bet you wouldn’t see that shit at a lady gaga concert

The people at a Lady Gaga show wouldn’t have their strength bid unto them by Odin himself.

      • Altered Bestiality

Odin? They werent at a Amon Amarth show

    • Jon

This also happened in Milwaukee on Saturday evening during Clutch’s set at the Black Label Berzerkus. Got huge cheers and the guy immediately starting pointing that he wanted to be put down, but it was a unifying moment that brought the pit to a halt momentarily.

  • Zakk

Rad! Looks like the vidio ends right before they dump him.

    That’s fucking awesome!!!

  • http://www.schenkeltown.com Schenkeltown

….also, why do people insist on holding up cameras their entire show? it’s so annoying!

    • CtrlZ

Seriously, I hate that shit. Why pay money to see a show through a viewfinder the whole time? all it does is annoy the people around you, and nobody cares about your crappy cell phone footage anyways…

  • Oblivion

Nice act of kindness, but it really makes you wonder how if it ended with him tumped over and sprawled out on the floor…

    • terry

most people at a slayer show end up that way, why shouldn’t he get that chance too?

      • LoGs the shit

        +1
also, ive seen this happen at least 5 times, not that rare, awesome

  • cougar party

    Fuck yeah!

  • Glorious Johnson

I’ve seen this at other shows before.

Funny thing about Slayer and brotherly love, has anyone noticed how many skin heads usually show up to their concerts? just sayin

    • Type-O-Positive

that’s because most skinheads can’t tell the difference between entertainment and real life. I read an article about the making of the film The Wall and the director hired hundreds of real skinheads to be the fascist nazi-like characters. (if you’ve seen the movie you know what I’m talking about). he said that reminding skinheads what the difference between on camera and real violence was the most difficult part of the whole project. probably works the same way with slayer and their lyrics and image and skinheads typically low IQ.

    Holy shit… that’s so awesome!!!

  • redneckMetal

Heavy Metal is handicapped accessible. Look at Slipknot. They are all mentally retarded yet manage to trick people into seeing them.

      I just LOL’d. Thank you.

As an aside, crowd surfing a wheelchair bound duder is awesome.

  • Soilworker

May I point out how godawful that guitar solo was?

    • matty2fatty

I was looking for someone to say that

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Daniel-Goldwater/33612828 Daniel Goldwater

I had to turn it off because of that shit. Terrible.

i saw the same thing at a black label society show a few years ago. very fucking cool

  • Robert

I was there. In fact, you can see my square-ass head in the front row through most of this video. The security guys at this show were really cool, and nobody, including the guy in the wheelchair, was hassled in any way after they went over the barrier. The security guys just got them on their feet (or wheels) and sent them on their way.

  • nice gesture

same thing happened at a lamb of god show here in austin!

  • gauche

i was at a Bouncing Souls show in Manhattan a couple years ago where the same thing happened. they floated him right onto the stage. it was written about in the New York Times.

  • scotttdw

that dude was also hoisted up during the megadeth set. i thought for a second that they would just allow the dude to wheel onto the corner of the stage, then i thought–well its mustaine, hed probably make the dude buy his book and pay a premium charge first.

      LOL OWNED

I’ve never heard of a riot or huge fights breaking out at metal events. The pit is designated for those who really want to headbang, but overall, I’d feel totally comfortable with other metal dudes.
Example: my nephew worked at a popular music/computer store for a few years and told me that when it came to shoplifting, nobody, not once, who bought rock and metal albums ever tried to steal their music. However, the rap and Latino sections had somebody trying to steal something on pretty much a daily basis. I’m not making any kind of a racial conclusion, only stating what he said.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, we have much more to fear from preachers and politicians with perfect hair, manicured nails and suits and ties than any headbanger.
I believe because metal has the European-American crossover appeal with acts from all over, including Poland and mighty Behemoth, even one from Iraq although their name escapes me at the moment and always a handful from Japan and Australia, its fans are more tolerant and interested in the world as a whole than some redneck asshole who listens to some country dickhead and has never been in a city bigger than Wal-Mart. Country yahoos fight more than anybody but rappers, and hate anybody who isn’t just like them. Give me rock and metal anytime.

    • SOF187

I agree with you too. Metal music is the most important part of my life, always has been, because it is WHO I AM. I was at this show, and only once have i ever been as proud of my metalhead family, and that is the story of Acrassicauda (the Iraqi band u mentioned). They are, in real life, my best friends in the world and have known them for years. Their story is amazing.

  • Demoncleaner

I was at this show, absolutely amazing. The guy in the wheelchair was definitely rockin out it was very cool to see. I also saw some guy pass out on the ground during megadeth who looked like he died, it was quite scary. Some security people helped him out of there but dude was fucked up for sure like a million hits of acid fucked up

    • OLINVILLE

I was there too, the dude in the chair stayed in the pit the whole time, was running MF’s over during Anthrax.

  • yetzer hara

i remember seeing this happen at almost every pantera show i saw back in the day. once it happened two or three times at one show… the side of the stage was filled with wheelchair-bound dudes who’d crowdsurfed to the front.

  • Geetarz

I was at that show, and I tell you what…. Anthrax imho blew megadeth and slayer away.

  • Brandon Tucker

Ah this makes me feel warm inside
