NEW MUSIC BY THE FACELESS! NEW MUSIC BY THE FACELESS!!!

Monday, October 18th, 2010 at 11:00am by

Neither Vince nor myself were able to make it to The Faceless’ show with Suffocation here in New York this past Saturday night; I think that’s the first time we’ve missed the band live during the entire Planetary Duality tour cycle. So, of course, they played a new song, “The Idol of Reality,” live. Figures.

But at least Metal Injection was on hand to capture some footage! (I remember Metal Injection being the first to break “Xenochrist” in 2008, too. I think those dudes love The Faceless even more than we do.) Check it below.

Not shocking news at all — the music sounds great. Totally epic, totally batshit crazy, and perhaps even a touch more melodic than the band’s past material? In any case, I’m ready for the studio version. It’s been two years since Planetary Duality, which is only thirty-two minutes long. Me wants new The Faceless album now please.

The Faceless’ new, yet-to-be-titled album should be out next year on Sumerian.

    Akeldama was better…

    • v_v

I agree with you good sir. I feel like most people wont though

No, you’re completely right. Akeldama > Planetary Duality.

    • Lycanthrope

Akeldama was fantastic. I’m praying to Science that this next album can be done in the same style. I can’t really tell from the live footage

      • homesplice

All ya’ll mahfuckas is crazy, because Planetary Duality is way better. I thought everybody knew that.

        • plusoneintellect

I mean, come on. planetary duality is hardly a bad album, but to say it’s better than akeldama? the song writing on akeldama is what made me love the faceless.
I hope that the new album is more melodic than their last offering.

when I compare the albums, akeldama is organic, whilst planetary duality is a machine. and I much prefer the former.

“The Faceless’ new, yet-to-be-titled album should be out next year on Sumerian.”

Really? Thats all ya got? Uhhhhhh. Next year huh? Sweet.

  • Dingas McCloud

The show was awesome. The Faceless killed, Decrepit Birth killed and obviously Suffocation was amazing

  • christian

yeah i missed this show as well..fucking blows..but im stoked for tonight (Son of Aurelius!!!!!) and wednesdays CMJ showcase

  • jtquake aka Nate L

I WAS THERE!! It was fucking awesome! I also saw them in NYC earlier this summer at the Summer Slaughter, and here they sounded even better!

But I thought the new song was called “Eidolon Reality”… because they like to use funny sci-fi / fantasy words in their titles…

    • areyouherenow

You are correct, good sir. The new song is titled Eidelon Reality.

The Idol Of is a pretty good guess though.

Just want to add that the footage was actually not shot by anyone on the official crew but rather by Raphael Pinkser – wearer of endless Faceless shirts

      hi roshin

  • Sin and Death

Well, the sound quality in the video is garbage, so I will reserve judgement until I can actually hear the song.

In Michigan we got lucky and get the suffocation and the cattle d tours merged into one huge fest in dtown. Of course I live on the other side of the state but I’m still going. It’s not to often I get to see a lineup this awesome for $20 (and with as many good bands that are on it I have no problem paying that).

Ironically what I’m not looking forward to is the faceless. Great band, but I’m so bored with hearing planetary duality that it’s become very stale. Hopefully I’ll get to hear more then one new song.

      They played Pestilence live… Awesome

      • Matt

That doesn’t surprise me. But they aways play 1 song from Akeldama and if it’s not pestilence then it’s “an autposy”. Trust me I really like the faceless but their set list bores the shit out of me because it’s so predictable every time.

        • Matt

          always*

          • areyouherenow

Well, they have 2 albums. Neither of which is very long.

I predict they will not play Leica or Ghost of a Stranger until they are doing their 20 year anniversary tour. They wrote the songs when they were minors and have grown up. Thus, they play the material they are proud of.

Really, its just a rare thing for such a young metal band to have this kind of success and the whole world is aching for MORE material. I’m glad that more is on the way soon.

Eidelon Reality IS the shit. I love the hat tip to Ron Jarzombek in the intro lead and to Extol in the chorus.

  • Slaughterhouse

That shit sounds badass. Can’t wait for this release

  • ITTOA666

Can’t wait for the new album. One of the few good bands these days with members under the age of 30.

  • ACoffinShip

I’ll reserve judgment until I can really hear the song, but I’m getting good vibes from this.

  • death to bro metal

Good band but there is no reason on Earth why Dying Fetus should have opened for them

  • WHOrebagger

This is THE worst metal band i have ever seen in my entire LIFE!!!

  • Plasmaterial

I like The Faceless, but I’ll say it again, there are a lot of better tech-death bands out there that haven’t been covered on this site…

Spawn of Possession, Odious Mortem, Severed Savior, Martyr and my fav. Quo Vadis.

Those Are Some Badass Bands, My Friend.

I Love The Faceless, My Favorite Band In Fact.
Their Coverage Probably Have To Do With Being On The Summer Slaughter Tour And Being Signed To Sumerian Records And Being Associated With More Famous Bands.

      • areyouherenow

They are not just SIGNED to Sumerian. They CREATED Sumerian when they released Akeldama. They were also involved with Sumerian A&R for some time.

    • areyouherenow

All these bands, except for Martyr, are a silly comparison. They have nowhere near the breadth of composition that The Faceless do. They lack the compositional finesse and precision intertwining of divergent styles. I am a fan of all these bands as much as just about anyone, but those are bands with very different material and goals from The Faceless…and thats why they don’t get the same attention.

  • krunkulor5000

new jam! fuxxx yeah! would like to hear it in greater detail though right now its just a tease or half a hit of crack lol

  • jamezzzz

i got a sick vid of this song in denver on the 27th, the quality is a bit better i think, i used a seperate audio recorder and fixed the mix a bit, i also have some of decrepit births set. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o8rfmGozb8
