EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: STREAM THE OCEAN’S ANTHROPOCENTRIC IN FULL!

the ocean - anthropocentric

May the speculation and waiting end; now you can finally hear the second of two Ocean albums released this year, the stunning and expansive Anthropocentric. The album won’t come out until November 9th in North America, November 19th in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and November 22nd in the rest of Europe… but we’ve got it for you today to enjoy for the entire next week.

So; how does it stack up against this album’s counterpart Heliocentric? Is it indeed the “heavy” release that was promised? How does it compare to past Ocean albums? Should Robin Staps run for World President? You be the judge and tell us what you think in the comments.

Order the album here and help The Ocean recover what they lost last week when they became victims of an actual highway robbery in Spain, or donate whatever you can via PayPal.

    thank you!

Sounds Wicked , gotta say sewers of the soul might be an early favourite

    • J-Rod

      Yeah Man
Sewers and Heaven TV were my initial faves. Don’t need any Opeth for awhile now.
Oh yeah, and fuck The Christians!

  • Alex_P

I like this one even more than Heliocentric (once again, I’ve been listening for the past week). More diversity, more risks, better songwriting. It’s on my year-end list for sure.

hopefully they recover enough money to tour the U.S.

*sighs, puts face in hands, gives it a shake*

  • MeesterDerp

According to Metal Blade’s site, the delay doesn’t affect the US release. Or at least as of right now they’re saying it’s out on the 9th here and later elsewhere: http://www.metalblade.com/theocean/

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Vince-Edwards/184804344 Vince Edwards

You are correct, still November 9th in North America.

  • http://www.myspace.com/barbelzoa Lordassenfroth

i just listened to that from start to finish, and i have to say i loved the shit out of it!

  • ACoffinShip

Heliocentric is definitely one of my favorite albums from this year. While it’s going to take more listens to say for certain, Anthropocentric may just beat it out. The heavy parts are heavier and as a whole the album DOES seem to be more diverse.

It’s an excellent complement to the first and I really hope they make enough money back to come do a US tour.

    • Watty

      Agree completely with the above.

And second the sentiment about their monetary loss, just donated an album’s worth…as well should everybody who cares about this amazing group of guys.

  • Dingas McCloud

    hell yeah.

    • Dingas McCloud

i have just finished listening to the entire album and i’d like to amend “hell yeah”.

definite contender for album of the year – fucking beautiful.

  • el fucko

sounds awesome! only negative things for me were the meh vocals and the weird mix on the drums.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Vince-Edwards/184804344 Vince Edwards

Vocals are incredible…not sure what you are listening to.

      • el fucko

I loved the cleans, but some of his screams just don’t work for me.

        • ACoffinShip

The vocals on the first track seemed a little too high up in the mix, like they were overpowering the music. My speakers are being pretty shitty lately though, so I’ll reserve judgment until I can blast it in my car.

Aside from that, I thought they were awesome.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Josh-Cook/661500144 Josh Cook

    I like it.

  • Ares

I’ve only been listening for three minutes and I’m in love. I actually kinda hated some stuff on the Aeolian record, but their subsequent records have proven to be amazing.

    • Morten

Dude, you best be jokin’. Aeolian is to fucking goddamn amazing.

Although, I’ll say, that 2 tracks in, this also seems a-blastin’

  • The I

Good stuff. I’m not normally into the whole deathcore/technical death scene, but I really liked the album and plan to get into The Ocean as soon as it’s released.

    • differentname

I don’t think this is either deathcore or technical death metal.

      • Major Zim

yeah its non of the above. the drums are doing a breakdown sort of thing in the first track but the ocean is more progressive/post metal than either deathcore or tech death. just fuck labels, they do not go by them.

  • dave texas

I dig this a lot more than Heliocentric considering that I thought that that record was instrumentally “meh” and vocally cheesy. I’ll give it a few more spins to see how I feel about Anthropocentric compared to Precambrian. Regardless, I can’t wait for these guys to play in the U.S. again!

    • Altered Bestiality

Same reason I havent listened to Helio since the first 2 spins. This piques my interest!

  • A.M

Well, track 11. “The Grand Inquisitor IV: Exclusion From Redemption” is missing :(

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tim-Shanks/1273561133 Tim Shanks

      ‘Tis a bonus track.

      • Rob

        on the vinyl

  • http://www.myspace.com/signorojoswe Kaffebaggel

I can’t afford the double LP package with both heliocentric and anthropocentric right now but i donated a couple of euros anyway. Let’s hope the robbers get superaids!!!

  • shreddies

better than heiocentric forsure….this shit is AWESOME!!!!

  • Rob McGinnis

Well hello there Album of the Year. Nice to meet you.

  • DanMunchie

    Wow. Album of the year.

  • Jack

    Snooze.

  • Spermgrinder

Once again, see what I mean? Keep sucking off lame bands, MS! This shit is as metal as Strawberry Quik.

  • Malacoda

Thank you. Heliocentric was quite a disappointment, glad to see they redeemed themselves on this one.

  • Spencer

i dont normally comment on these things but the awesomeness of this album warrants deviation. my keyboard is covered in jizz from the intro to Grand Inquisitor II. shits gonna be hard to clean. thanks a lot oceandudes.

  • nope

    RIP

    • Major Zim

i completely agree. if you mean “this album completely RIPs”

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Austin-Wells/100000827221296 Austin Wells

I want Robin Staps to be Prime Minister du monde, maintenant!!!

    • Giamma

Quote!!!! everybody go vote for Robin !

  • Dart

Only good tracks were 4 and 8

  • Antonio

Hi guys I want to buy this album and help them because of the robbery but I don’t have paypal…. There are any way to help them?

  • Jason

More bad music for pretentious people to champion so that they look exclusive and smart. A few cool riffs here and there but that is it. And the vocals are mediocre beyond all reason. Any 15 year old kid that I meet on the street could get produced into sounding at least that good vocally.

    • Yaksha

i prefer metal though i like all kinds of music, if well done.
coincidentally, i am an atheist by heart and a physicist.
now where am i being pretentious, mr. loudmouth?

these albums happen to hit the spot and i’m damn happy about the fact that there are still bands out there, who try to innovate and encourage their listeners to think about the world they live in.

but that’s how the world goes…
if something’s too “intellectual” for mr. simple, he degrades those smarter than him and shits all over the pieces art they love and enjoy, only making a fool of himself.

      you may continue deluding yourself.

      • Mike

        thank you.

bands like The Ocean are few and far between at the moment, and should be encouraged in creating diverse and challenging music.

        plus they have HUGE riffs…

  • Rob

As if I didn’t want this album bad enough already. THANKS GUYS

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Gabriel-Orwig/1344939887 Gabriel Orwig

Bought and downloaded cause I’m impatient and in love with this album.

  • Major Zim

I wasnt very big on it at first even though i love Precambrian and heliocentric and i was worried i wasn’t very into these guys anymore, but the more i listen to this album the more i absolutely love it. amazing stuff.

  • Ron

    Fucking love this.

  • sacredchao

    Pretty cool…kind of a quicker-tempoed Isis.

    • Neotenic

      I agree.

These two ‘-centric’ albums have nicely filled the very real, and very large, Isis-shaped hole in my life.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Adam-Di-Luzio/689747635 Adam Di Luzio

    In-fucking-credible!! Can’t wait for this!

  • CrestalMyth

Heliocentric was a fucking huge disappointment. Glad to find they’re edging back to the Precambrian sound.
