THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN’S JEFF TUTTLE IS NOT A FAN OF FOREVER THE SICKEST KIDS

A reader calling himself “sojdsaoj pkpkpas” — which I believe, coincidentally, is also the name of a band currently featured on the “Cats on the Keyboard” tour along with Jumalhämärä, Malhkebre, and Knwøgfpieπbgejsfna[f9 — sent us the below photos of The Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Jeff Tuttle standing on-stage during Forever the Sickest Kid’s set at the Soundwave Festival in Australia earlier this year. I don’t know if these have been floating around for awhile or what, but it’s the first time we’re seeing ‘em.

Of course, Mr. Tuttle’s behavior is incredibly rude, childish, and downright unprofessional.

It is also the single best piece of music criticism I have encountered in recent memory.

I like your style, Jeff Tuttle.

      oh holy shit this is so funny. never heard sickest kids’ music but its prob core/emo crap. i wonder what the bands reaction to this was, and if this is in fact a joke between the bands or not. there is a difference between the persona of metal and the making of metal. these guys may look it, but theyre posers. just like i would call all the tools wearing dc, burton merch posers when they dont skateboard/snowboard. i hate these fucking trends. i used to be teased by the “thugs” for wearing that shit, now its the cool thing, and everyone does it for that reason. not because they have convictions as human beings, but because they are fucking sheep. products. objects.

    What a douche, FTSK’s fans are 99% teenage girls under 16. Why rain on their parade with this ‘truer than thou’ nonsense? Just let them have a good time, they don’t care who DEP is or what they think of FTSK. Other than the singer, who’s kind of a dick, the kids in FTSK are very, very nice, too.

    Also, FTSK’s songwriting is fucking BRILLIANT (although I believe Jeff Rockwell writes their songs, not the band). He should take notes, maybe DEP would be more popular.

          D is claiming (I think) that songwriting and popularity is what sets the two bands apart. He also mentioned that FTSK doesn’t write their own music. My point is this: bands and artists that don’t bother to write their own music as the types of people who ultimately can’t be bothered (or aren’t talented enough) to invest time and patience in crafting it themselves. I primarily despise country music not because the music sucks, but because 90% of country artists engage professional songwriters to do everything for them but sing the fucking song.

          It would be like Metallica basing their career around releasing nothing but covers or songs written by one of their roadies. Who the hell would respect that?

          Anyway, calling FTSK songs “brilliant” is entirely subjective.

            Ummm…the history of popular music is rife with examples of transcendent artists who did not write all, or sometimes any, of the songs that they performed. Most classical music is performed by (often great) artists who had nothing whatsoever to do with its genesis. There is artistry to be found in songwriting and composition, and artistry to be found in performance. Sometimes those two things go together, but to demand that they do is an arbitrary sort of standard. And a largely meaningless one, when it comes to the simple enjoyment of the music.

        Nah dude, you’re just blinded by hate. Listen to ‘underdog alma mater,’ the songwriting is incredible. You don’t have to LIKE it, but if you can’t recognize that those are brilliant poppy-rock songs, you aren’t listening with an open mind.

        Also, they’re not all that popular.

          When I was in high school (2-3 years ago), they were really popular. But like every other trendy “pop-punk” band, no one listens to them anymore. They all moved to more aggressive music, such as Attack Attack and A Day to Remember, who will be forgotten in 1-2 years.

            And another thing, going back to what you said Sgt.     i can’t believe people are coming out in support of FTSK. Who gives a shit if Tuttle’s an asshole. He plays GUITAR in THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN. A band that in despite of tons of line up changes, continues to release albums superior to the vast majority of other releases. He should have come out with a flame thrower instead of a sign. I MAD

    Meh, I’ve played with A LOT of bands I hated. Just go back to the bus have a smoke or something and STFU. I think anyone whose ever played in a band has seen shitty bands from day 1 almost daily. I mean, we had a band open up for us once who just played the opening to Sweet Child O Mine over and over for 7 minutes. You just have to laugh and have a drink.

    Has nobody noticed that DEP’s entire career has been centered around being assholes. Read their lyrics. It’s essentially tongue-in-cheek rape-rock, and the live show is just them hurting themselves while being amazing live performers.

    None of that’s a criticism, by the way. They do their own man-love thing and rock it well.

    The point is, when a man’s amazing career is basically a giant sign reading ‘I’m an asshole’ why bat an eyelash when that man is an asshole? Good for him, more pwoer to the assholes.

      musical taste varies person to person, but as a drummer bands like DEP helped me build up some chops, I can’t exactly agree with your opinion, it’s like saying Meshuggah fans can only can only play polyrhythms and not anything straight forward

    This just further solidifies my undying, non-homosexual love for TDEP. Easily one of the best bands around and a group of seriously cool, down to earth guys (obviously with a good taste in music).
