“RESIST” — AS BLOOD RUNS BLACK ARE BACK

Thursday, December 9th, 2010 at 11:20am by

I remember when Allegiance came out in 2006, people were talking about As Blood Runs Black like they were the second coming. Along with groups like The Black Dahlia Murder (who were already much more well-established by then) and All Shall Perish (whose own, and in my opinion superior, breakthrough, The Price of Existence, came out the same year), they were supposed to be the future of death metal, one of the bands that would update the sound without straying too far from their influences. By now, they should have released at least two more albums, and, in theory at least, be enjoying their status as one of the godfathers of deathcore.

But something went hideously awry. I honestly don’t know what, because I thought Allegiance was fine but not great, and I didn’t pay as close attention to ABRB as maybe I should have. I kept hearing about line-up changes, but, like I said, I wasn’t paying very close attention. In any case, it seems like at a certain point everyone stopped talking about this band, and then I wasn’t even sure that this band existed anymore.

But they do! And they finally have a new album, Instinct, coming out next year. And now you can listen to a song from that album, “Resist,” by going to the band’s Facebook page and clicking the “like” button.

Now, honestly, I’m feeling pretty over it with having to publicly declare my love for a band to hear their latest music, especially when I don’t really like the band all that much and I just wanna hear the song for the sake of being up-to-date on the ins and outs of the metal world (as is the case in this instance). And I don’t even think this is really a new song — a quick search of my inbox shows that some readers were sending me YouTube links to the track as far back as July. Presumably those were demo versions or something, but what I heard in those links just reaffirmed my opinion of As Blood Runs Black, which is, again, that they’re perfectly fine, but nothing really special.

Some of you are gonna love this song, though, and those people should definitely go here and help the band spread the word of their new release. And then those people should come back to MetalSucks and tell me why this song slays, and why I’m an idiot. I probably won’t believe you, but I’ll be curious to read your argument.

Instinct will be released on Mediaskare on February 15.

heres the new version without having to like the page

If it has anything to do with Facebook then I want nothing to do with it. Call me crazy, but I think Facebook is one of the most retarded fucking things.

    • chainchomp

really? worse than twitter? because i don’t understand the draw to that stupid shit at all………

        • Sacajawea

I thought that was the same shit, like an extension of Facebook or something, I dunno. I hate it all. It’s mind numbing bullshit. Shitty shit.

      • tingdurr

Im going to sound douchey here, but there is some kind of cool novelty to twitter… you don’t have to do shit with it except read it (unless you actually want to post – in which case dont) and it just feeds you info from things you are interested in. There are a lot of feeds from the music industry too – its kinda cool.

Facebook however is actually the worst shit to happen to the human race since herpes.

    Tron?

he just used a phrase godfathers of deathcore.’ i think i’m gonna gag.
talk about shit that doesn’t deserve the dignity of its own label…should just be called ‘bad death metal.’

  • Alex_P

Well, this song made me start laughing out loud. 15 second faux-G’burg intro straight into a breakdown? It’s like they’ve specifically engineered the music to immediately maximize my hatred of it. If it’s intentional… then that right there is fucking metal.

Cover art is shit, though. I like the concept, but the execution is lacking.

  • Christian

The album cover kinda looks like a Hot Wheels track.

    • stevebazzano

      haha i agree,

  • Matt

This band gets progressively worse live every time I see them. The bass player is a beast but besides that I’m not sure who is even left in the band that even somewhat resembles an original member.

  • Wookie983

I think the Kenny Chesney ad is better than this band.

  • Douchechill

These guys played with Bleeding Through a couple years back in Adelaide. They ripped every one a new cunt.

was that the Special Olympics tour?

    • luvmus

      agreed douchechill. that was amazing.

According to many of my friends, they listened to the first album, thought it was phenomenal, didn’t hear the second album, the band had lineup changes, and they put on the worst live show ever. Depressing.

  • Jon Miguel

So we do know there will be boring metalcore in 2011.

Hey Korn called it first back in 2002 with their video Here to Stay

  • christian

at least the cover art isnt some fucking sphere with some crazy shit going on like every other album this year. props. but what happened to this band? i see no original members, not even ernie.

  • TheSkunkCatcher

They got worse with each vocalist they got; this Sonik guy is kind of boring.

  • http://jimsfear.blogspot.com/ ferocious_fetus

    lame band is lame.
Had to sit through these guys opening set on numerous festivals/tours here in LA and cringed each time. They were only popular because of that song where the drummer plays fast double bass toward the end and all the Killswitch Engage converts shat themselves in amazement.

  • BlackVomit

Is that the album cover?? Holy shit. That’s bad.

  • ittoa666

That cover is such a faceless ripoff. I’m not even gonna listen to it.

  • soy el niño más bonito

i dig it, but only because i dug the first album. it’s fun, mindless bdm with breakdowns.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ian-Wilmot/1177765489 Ian Wilmot

the only thing worth listening to this for is the drums cause he actually manages to play that fast without triggers
    which is quite impressive

    • John

Yeah, because triggers make you play faster. Attaching a clamp to your bass drum gives your legs so much more speed and stamina dude!

Go read Sergeant D’s post on metal drumming.
Also: If a drummer spends more than 15 minutes setting up his bass drum, and doesn’t just shove a bunch of random ass blankets into it, you can get it to sound just as good and consistent as triggers.

  • Slaughterhouse

Not bad but not special either. Not sure what the cover art has to do w/ the album name but I personally don’t get it lol

  • Isaac

I’ve actually never heard of these guys before. After checking their first album out, they may be one of the few deathcore bands I actually enjoy.

  • JESUS CHRIST

The reason I don’t respect this band much(anymore) is because I’ve come to realize from personal experience: a 2 year old could write this shit. I don’t hate it, and I don’t mind hearing it, but I prefer to listen to things that are dynamic and with depth; not something that I could write a whole album of in one sitting, making up shit as I go along after smoking two joints. Lol.
