ARE BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME WORKING ON THEIR NEW EP OR NOT?

Between the Buried and Me have begun working on their hinted-at new EP, to be released at some point in 2011 on pioneering record label METAL BLADE RECORDS. Or have they?

Metal Injection picked up on a status update posted on Between the Buried and Me’s Facebook page yesterday, a screen cap of which is shown above. BTBAM’s Facebook page is linked with their Twitter account, so the update appeared there too. But then the Facebook post mysteriously disappeared while the linked Twitter post remained. Did someone spill the beans early?

The whole lead-up to this record has been a little bizarre; no official word from either BTBAM or Metal Blade yet even though the deal is obviously done, and now this. Maybe the deal with Bottrill isn’t signed yet, or perhaps Metal Blade wants to keep the focus on the upcoming Thomas Giles release (Tommy Rogers’ solo album) before getting on to BTBAM proper. Or perhaps it’s all a ruse to get the press talking about both, which I’ve now played into just as planned.

In any case, David Bottrill strikes me as a great choice for BTBAM; his records always sound phenomenal from a sonic perspective, and his discography is littered with proggy awesomeness (Tool, Muse, King Crimson, Coheed & Cambria) so I’m sure he’ll give BTBAM the freedom to do whatever they please while dialing in those sweet tones from behind the boards. I fully expect this record to be awesome.
