CHILDREN OF BODOM ARE “WORTH IT”

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011 at 10:30am by

So Children of Bodom were nice enough to release a new single, “Was it Worth It?,” on the radio, and this day and age being this day and age, the song is of course now on YouTubes. You can check it out below.

My first impression of this not-exactly-great-quality bootleg? I like it. I mean, Children of Bodom don’t drastically change their formula from album to album, and so this song doesn’t offer any real surprises, but it is catchy like the plague, so I ain’t about to complain.

“Was it Worth It?” comes off of COB’s latest, Relentless Reckless Forever, which comes out March 8 on Spinefarm.

Liking the song, but the upload quality is fucking horrible!

Not too bad. I must say I liked the music better than anything off of Blooddrunk

I wish he would take some of the effects off his vocals though. It is a bootleg (and I’m on a work CPU so the speakers aren’t great) so I will wait for the final product but that is really my only complaint. I am not a fan of vocals that have a lot of distortion. It makes the vocals sound weak in my opinion.

But the music was definitely solid.

    • Jon Miguel

That would be my only complaint as well.

    • Vakarm

Ditto. Definitaly better than most songs from Blooddrunk. Although, i gotta say i enjoyed “Banned from Heaven”

People are hating on it on youtube. I dont see why. This isnt so drastically different from their other stuff. At this point you’re either into COB or you’re not. I personally dig it. I love how they manage to be catchy and sinister at once.

    • Bayon

People give COB because a lot of their fanboys are entry-level br00tal teenage goth/emo kids who shop strictly at Hot Topic. Fortunately for me, I like/dislike bands based on their music.

      • Bayon

        *People give COB crap

        • Ziltoid got caught liking Disturbed

That’s very true. I mean, I actually do think of Children as COB as kind of an entry level extreme metal band, because they’re so accessible, but I don’t see that as a bad thing. Their last 2 albums have sucked, but prior to that, their releases were all fine. You can’t blame them for writing catchy songs. I always saw them as a more accessible Dissection.

And like you said, it’s not really fair to judge them based on their fans. If you were to look solely at their music, they wouldn’t get nearly as much shit.

Hmm thankfully I dont know too many big COB fans. After what you guys guys are saying Im thankful for that.

not only because of their fans, but also because people think alexi is like avril lavigne or some shit.

I found it pretty meh, but then again, I just can’t bring myself to get into anything past Hatecrew. And even that album only held my interest for so long.

  • Chainsword

They are pushing it pretty hard on Sirius/xm. I like them alot but haven’t been too enthralled in anything after hatecrew either.

    Really bad band.

    • 802

      agreed.
I also never understood the whole COBHC thing. band is not hardcore.

      • Rik

        HC stands for hate crew

        • 802

          oh thanks! haha

  • Rik

More interesting than anything off the last album, but not necessarily better. Personally I preferred AYDY to Hatecrew, but the last album sucked and I don’t have high hopes for this either.

  • Bernd

great intro, lame verse, nice chorus, interresting solo
    I’d give it a solid B

  • EarthIsGay

That certainly is a CoB song. I dunno, downfall and kissing the shadows will always destroy. War Bodom!

  • el fucko

not too bad, but sounds kinda sloppy for Bodom.

  • Vakarm

I’m digging this song. Sure there’s a “chug chug” sound that i didn’t really like in Blooddrunk, but there are melodic parts not dissimilar to “Follow the Reaper”.

Alexi kept saying that this upcoming album is more melodic than Blooddrunk. I would not mind if the album is similar to this song

  • Joe

Bodom keep getting fucking worse and worse. I’m all in favor of heavy drinking but it seems the more they drink the worse their music gets. Alexi used to shred during verses and now he barely even plays drop-tuned chords through the verses. His vocals suck on this too. There’s local bands in my area that sound a lot better than this.

  • Dusty P.

They lost all the “catchiness magic” after Hatecrew Deathroll, imo.
This is better than anything off the last couple albums, but I’m so tired of their sound at this point, I just don’t care.

  • Matt

It’s not bad. It’ll probably sound better half way through the keg.

  • http://twitter.com/fantasyoosh fantasyh

It’s a CoB song. It’s entertaining, it’s catchy, it has cool guitar solos. It’s a CoB song.

  • Icewind666

I like it. I feel they have remained consistant and never released a bad album. Having said that i do hope for a bit more shredding than this song offered.

  • nigbot

Same guitar tones, same shitty vocals and same fucking riffs.
This band gets worse and worse.
