WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ARCHITECTS (UK)???

Architects - The Here and Now

Architects (UK) are one of those bands who have kind of snuck beneath my radar over the years; I’ve been kind of aware of them and even listened on a couple of occasions but nothing’s ever stuck with me, in small part perhaps due to the whole Architects name confusion thing. So when Heavy Blog is Heavy posted that Architects (UK)’s new album The Here and Now is streaming on full on their MySpace page I figured I owed it myself to check them out. NOTA BENE: the first song in the player is not from the new album.

Now I’m listening to Architects’ new album and I’m just as confused as ever. Half the time they sound like Refused and kick all sorts of ass, like on “Delete, Rewind,” even if they utilize good cop / bad cop (they do it well). The other half of the time they use’90s punk-pop chord combos with super-cheesy, albeit catchy, choruses and they basically sound like a band your teenager cousin would like because he doesn’t know any better (“Learn to Live”). Sometimes they do both in the same song (“BTN”) which is all sorts of frustrating; maybe that’s just their “thing” but it ain’t for me. Pick one sound and stick to it, guys! And if you’ve got your druthers about you, make it the Refused sound… because you do it well.

So, I’ve told you what I think — what do YOU think??? Are Architects cool or do they drool???

i havent heard the new cd yet but i heard its much less tech. I enjoyed their other cds but from the one song i heard although catchy, was not my cup of tea.

  • thisguy

only song i have of them is on the century media sampler you guys gave me a while back. didnt care much for it though.

  • Alex_P

    Saw them live.

    Was unimpressed by the music.

Haven’t listened to the studio output.

    One of my favorite bands

  • Reznik

There Ok, there like a British underoath

  • Traktor

The new album simply sucks, they’re only focussing on catchy chorusses.
    Now they’re just a generic Post-Hardcore/Metalcore.
All other albums were awesome Tech Metal, with great atmosphere

    • TomHanksFan

      +1 agreed

      • Krang10

Agreed. Their last album was pretty damn good I thought, had some really heavy, catchy songs that were just techyy enough. This new CD blows. Very disappointed.

        • TheSkunkCatcher

agreed, new cd is a letdown

  • Glorious Johnson

this falls into a realm of shitty bands whose names are to similar to other bands that im already familiar and could generally not give a flying fuck about like suffokate. is it that hard to atleast search myspace or the internet before naming your band the same thing as another band?

Nah, their old stuff souds like a emo meshuggah
and this new cd sounds like an crappy alexisonfire

  • Frampler

They’re massively over-exposed here in the UK, and judging by the latest album, they’re following the Bring Me The Horizon school of trend-chasing bollocks.

    • Anonymous

      Couldn’t agree more

  • WowWee!

Give me the free compilation already you bastards!!! GRRR

Sounds like Alexisonfire self titled with the vocal styles, i’m not into this album at all.

    • Reznik

Oh! that’s what they sound like! I couldn’t put my finger on it, Ha!

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Steve-Szakowski/100001440471684 Steve Szakowski

Exactly, I was listening and i clearly hear the Dallas Green/George parts.

Hollow crown I enjoyed, but this album has been done many many many times before.

  • Rik

I really liked the last album, but this new stuff sounds nothing like it. Very disappointing.

Early Grave. Just listen to that track and then see what they used to be.

  • http://www.heavyblogisheavy.com/ Alkahest

Hollow Crown was their opus, and it was awesome.

    This new one blows.

    • http://www.heavyblogisheavy.com Disinformasiya

      YOU BLOW.

Nah, it’s true. Vocal and lyrical failings abound, much less tech; a big step backwards.

  • B Ting

loved first 2 releases. this new one is them being something they are not.

  • http://www.ceiltsei.com Ceiltsei Cshrivan

I picked up Architect – Ghost of the Salt Water Machines and Architects – Hollow Crown about the same time.. and.. well.. I was extremely disappointed with Architects.

And thats about all I can say about that.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ian-Wilmot/1177765489 Ian Wilmot

    hollow crown was better
mainly because of songs like numbers count for nothing and dead march

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ian-Wilmot/1177765489 Ian Wilmot

      i forgot
the last song has guest vocals by greg from dillinger
      best part of the album

  • Driven9

i actually loved Hollow Crown. Sounds like everyone above me is just hating on “anything new/becoming better know/popular/etc…”, but i’ll have to check this out, and see if it is in fact worse than the previous albums.

  • MoshUntilPanic

hollow crown was good. didn’t really like anything before and don’t like this new stuff. ever since i heard early grave on full volume accidentally and it threw me off my chair i’ve liked it.

  • Metalraff

Fucking horrendous. All the great Metal bands out there and MS seems to continuously choose Metalcore/Hardcore crap to pimp.

    • Glorious Johnson

you should correct the above statement to say “MS seems to continuously ‘get paid’ “

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Yake-Brootle-Ryan/596440962 Yake Brootle Ryan

vince definitely go listen to their last album ‘Hollow Crown’ and tell us what you think of that. totally different deal.

  • http://barren-utopia.blogspot.com/ Alexorn

I think ‘Hollow Crown’ and ‘Ruin’ are great albums. I don’t think much of the new one.

  • The Artisan

It seems most of you kvlt pricks hate anything that even resembles hardcore. What the fuck is wrong with hardcore? It’s visceral, emotional, and powerful, when done well. You just don’t want to be seen as a “hardcore” kid, because to you, music is really about style. You think it’s fucking cool to listen to bands no one has ever heard of, wear band shirts no one gives a crap about, and in general be a dick and pretend to like bands that suck just so you can look like you’re br00tal or whatever. No, my small minded friends, music is all about the fucking music. Architects has released some really quality stuff. Hollow Crown was a solid album, really heavy. The Here and Now seems a little less heavy, but it still rips. The cool thing about Architects is that they don’t try to be what they aren’t. They aren’t some tech-death band, they never have been and they never will be. They probably don’t have the musical dexterity to do so, honestly. But they are pretty good at fast, heavy riffing. And what’s wrong with catchy choruses? If the only music you like has no clean vocals like Anterior or something, then obviously you won’t like this. So shut the fuck up and kiss my ass. I bet most of you are either 13 and don’t know what a scale is, or are 30 and still live with your mother. Either way, grow up or fuck off and die.

  • Jonathan

I like some of their stuff. They’re good players, but they haven’t found a direction yet. I was hoping they would by a third album, but it took Iced Earth that long, and then a re-affirmation of that sound on the 4th. Similar things have happened to quite a few groups. It’s listenable though, so I enjoy it as background music.

  • Blowtorch Massacre

I loved Nightmares, Ruin a little less so, and Hollow Crown was fantastic…

    WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!?!?!

  • http://heavymetalist.com heavymetalist.com

Ruin was awesome, esp the first few tracks… had no idea at first what they looked like which was a surprise..

Hollow crown is a really good album, it blends tech metal with the BMTH kinda sound which gives it heavyness AND feeling…

I only heard one new song of theres and they are definitely going the punk rock/melodic hardcore influence..

Which by the way is going to be the new metal ‘trend’ : Guarenteed!!

  • simon.

saw them years ago with the old singer were really good, then they started doing emo vocals . fail , they suckass
