FEEL THE “STRAIN” OF MARUTA’S HEAVINESS

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011 at 2:30pm by

Maruta got a lot of attention last year when their drummer, Nick Augusto, joined Trivium; Maruta sound nothing like Trivium, but whatever gets people talking about them is fine. They are, in fact, a grindcore band, and a killer grindcore band at that; now Invisible Oranges is streaming a new song, “Strain.” Listen here.

The last thirty seconds of the song or so, when guitarist Eduardo Borja starts making his guitar sound the way I imagine Gene Hoglan stomping on a family of live squirrels might, is my favorite part. It’s like the song builds and builds, and then just erupts into physical violence. Excellent.

Listen here.”Strain” comes out off Maruta’s new album, Forward into Regression (See what they did there?),which comes out on Willowtip on March 8. Yep, pre-orders are up.

P.S. I really like that cover art, too!

hells ya! first time ive heard em, and i def dig this a lot. i love finding grindcore bands i can get into. ive always found merit in their music, but they typically must have some deathy elements for me to like it. only ive liked are cattle decap or cc so heres another to my list of acceptable grind bands. i second the cover arts amazingness also

Fucking sweet! Didn’t even realize they have a new CD coming out. SO many amazing grindcore bands releasing new shit this year. 2011 is officially “the year of grind” for me.

Love all the coverage invisible oranges gives to grind, too. I’ve discovered a couple of bands over there that have become essential to my collection. Still waiting on word from the Pig Destroyer camp because I have no doubt that’ll be album of the year despite how many other good bands have new stuff coming out.

Phobia, Agoraphobic Nosebleed (EPs), and Rotten Sound need to be added to that list.

That’s some great album art. I love that urban feel to it.
