ABACINATE EXPERIENCE A NEW GENESIS FOLLOWING VOCALIST’S UNTIMELY DEATH

abacinate - genesis

You might recognize the name Abacinate from the tragic passing of 25-year old vocalist Jason “Plunger” Sica this past September. Please know that this isn’t one of those times when the media hops on a band’s dick following the death of a member, or worse, when the band themselves tries to exploit a death for their gain.

I am writing this article because Abacinate are seriously worthy of the attention of death metal fans worldwide. Proof lies in the form of their excellent new album Genesis, recorded before Sica’s death, which you can now stream in full over at Apochs.net.

Genesis sees the band getting tighter and playing more intricately than ever before, all the while delivering those slammy death metal grooves they’re known for in local circles. On first listen I barely recognized Genesis as compared to their earlier material, but the more I dig in the more similarities I hear; it’s evolved, but similar… pretty much the best way a band can hope to move forward artistically.

Genesis is available at Abacinate’s official website for just 10 bucks; totally worth it. A track from Genesis will appear on our free digital comp NYC Sucks Volume 2, out February 22nd.

NJ residents can catch Abacinate play at the benefit/tribute show for Jason Sica on April 2nd at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ; Fit For an Autopsy, The Ghost in Black and White, The Binary Code, East of the Wall and Grimus will also be appearing.
