AND THIS YEAR’S WINNERS OF THE BULLSHIT METAL AND HARD ROCK GRAMMYS ARE…

Monday, February 14th, 2011 at 10:30am by

…Iron Maiden, for the song “El Dorado,” and Them Crooked Vultures, for the song “SERIOUSLY WHO GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THEM CROOKED VULTURES YOU OLD FAT FILTHY FUCKS?”

So the thing is, if you look up the word “meaningless” in the dictionary, you will find a picture of a Grammy. There’s really no reason to be bummed about this. And while I don’t think “El Dorado” is a very good song, I’m glad that Maiden won as opposed to, say, Korn. Actually, I would have been okay with any of the nominees that weren’t Korn winning.

But for Them Crooked Vultures — or, really, any of the bands that weren’t Alice in Chains — to win just proves what a joke these awards are. I don’t even feel like I have to type anything else to prove my point — just the words “Them Crooked Vultures” should make you automatically say through your yawn, “Next!”

whats your problem with them crooked vultures?

sure theyre nothing phenomenal, or groundbreaking, and far from a super group; but theyre a solid rock band, with a great album, and a good blend of sounds.

this coming from a guy who writes for a site that promotes emmure, and DR. acula on a daily basis.

    • Slaughterhouse

      Money talks haha

    • Stu

Exactly; not phenomenal, but certainly a very good group and album I still listen to pretty regularly.

    • Axem

Shit yo !!! EMMURE is fucking sweet wtf is you problem ?

      • bethabitch

        fuck that.

  • Vakarm

AKA The award for “Least threatening metal and hard rock song”

    they could’ve done worse

  • Gecko

At this point aren’t all awards shows meaningless? Can’t we all predict that Lady Gaga will win Grammys, 30 Rock will win Emmys, Jon Stewart will win some being an awesome Jew award, and the Oscars will be won by a bunch of movies I didn’t see cause they weren’t filled with boobs and explosions…I should make that movie…I could call it…Boobsplosion…

    • http://www.myspace.com/SentinelMass SENTINEL

I’d watch it. Make it happen

      • http://dystrophy.bandcamp.com devin townsend’s lost skullet

        I second this

        • Alex_P

Thirded. This movie needs to happen.

          • Sacajawea

Fourthed. Now you have a solid cult following if you make this movie.

          • Isaac

Fifthed. I would start a fan site on Geocities and rave about the cinematography.

          • http://www.easttexasunderground.net DaylightReckoning

This movie already happened, and has two sequals. Or did you not know that they changed the name to “Transformers?”

  • B-dizzle

    At least Muse won something

    • Brendan

      Haha good one.

  • AARONIUS

Well it’s par for the course when Neil Young and Tom Petty are nominated in the “rock” category.

  • Brian Roach

Iron Maiden totally deserved to win, probably more as a ‘lifetime achievement’ award than for that particular track, but that was warranted.

Them Crooked Vultures were overrated but not terrible, I can’t remember who else but them and AIC were nominated, but they’re not undeserving of the award!

  • Matt

I gave up caring about The Grammys years ago. But, Crack the Skye not even get nominated proves case and point that it’s committee doesn’t give two shits and/or a fuck for giving Heavy Metal and Hard Rock more than a once over.

    • Stu

There’s a group who nominate that category who aren’t involved wit the other stuff. This gets mentioned EVERY TIME.

  • dave

considering the amount of shit bands this site promotes, i dont understand the hate for them crooked vultures

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Cleber-Monteiro/100000392246968 Cleber Monteiro

      Yeah,go figure!

TCV is a very good band, but off course you wouldn’t expect a metal head to get into their sound..

      • Slaughterhouse

I fully disagree. Just because we are metalheads does not mean that we don’t enjoy other types of music. I for one love a broad range of genres and like w/ any genre, you will have good bands and shitty ones

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Austin-Pearl-Nutter/1418565949 Austin Pearl Nutter

I don’t think they’re promoting it because they like it. They’re just trying to keep the lights on…..

  • Pastor of Muppets

Get the stick out of your ass; “New Fang” is a helluva tune.

  • Ben Alexander

Hey, at least Arcade Fire won a bunch of awards. For one year at least a band got what they deserve to get.

  • Grymmbear

You interrupted our dosages of IWRESTLEDABEARONCE, Oceano, Attack Attack!, and other shit bands for THIS?

    I am disappoint.

  • Howie

    TCV FTW

  • BlackVomit

From what I understand Gary Moore wasn’t even mentioned for the In Memory section.

  • Anthony

“But for Them Crooked Vultures — or, really, any of the bands that weren’t Alice in Chains — to win just proves what a joke these awards are”

Or maybe it proves that the people voting liked Them Crooked Vultures more than Alice in Chains? Seriously, I love AIC and probably hate TCV more than you do, but people go on and on about how awards are a joke when their favourite bands don’t win, but then when their favourite bands do win it’s all “Oh hip hip hooray they totally deserved to win”, which I’m pretty sure you’d be exclaiming had AIC taken the victory.

I mean i’m a big Korn fan and would have liked for them to win (them or Lamb of God) but i’m not being all “eeeehhhh the grammys are a joke because they just gave it to the band that’s been around the longest”, because i’m sure if Korn won the consensus would be “eeeehhhhh they’re just the most popular and radio-friendly band of the bunch so that’s why the won”

You don’t care about the grammys? Fine, then don’t complain about certain bands winning or not winning.

    • gloriousjohnson

maiden’s definitely more radio friendly than korn, korn shouldnt be heard by anyone

    • Isaac

“I mean i’m a big Korn fan and would have liked for them to win (them or Lamb of God)”
      Get the fuck out.

  • cougar party

Did someone from Maiden actually show up to accept the award?

  • Matt

YOO WE HERE AT METALSUCKS FUCKING LOVE EMMURE YO!

    • Vinsanity

i love this guy. also approve of his picture. i keep hoping to see him saying this. hasnt disappointed yet!

      • Matt

YA DAWGGGGG!!!!! FUCKING HEAVY AS SHIT BRO!

  • Frampler

I totally concur with the sentiment of “Fuck the Grammys”, but your anti-Them Crooked Vultures rant seems a bit pointless when it’s cheerleading for Alice in Chains – both bands (and Maiden) were nominated because they already were famous, and Grammys are basically awards for being famous.

  • Adam

Arcade Fire winning Album of the Year was what really tipped me off to the Grammy’s being a joke. Whether you like Lady Gaga or not, theres no denying her album should have won that award!

    • Isaac

      Not sure if troll…

      • Adam

Nah man I mean it! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on Arcade Fire, I do like them, but almost every fucking song from LG’s newest album was a hit. It had to have been the most highly purchased album this year as well. And I don’t understand what made that Lady Antebellum song so good that it won all those awards.

  • Metalguy

I’m just glad Dio got in the memorial clip.

  • Tim

Do not care. Esperanza Spalding beat Bieber, and for that all is forgiven.

  • Randy Blythe’s Illegitimate Child

I can’t wait until Attack Attack, Black Veil Brides, Dragonforce, and Korn get nominated… id love to see these guys try to justify that theyd still want Korn to not win…. go listen to your Living Colour and stop bitching

  • dread

Why was Korn in the metal category?

  • ITTOA666

What I love about the grammys is the fact that Lady Antimusic played live at the ceremony just before they won an award. Are they fucking serious?! Think about it.

Who gives a fuck about a grammy?

  • http://mthomassteele.tumblr.com M. Thomas Steele

I wrote a bit about these types of articles on my own blog. It gets so tedious every year to hear metal fans and metal sites bitching and bitching about the Grammys, so I had a little fun with it…

We get it, metal fans. The Grammys are “bullshit.” Now please shut up.

Another year, and another Grammy awards ceremony has passed us by, and another batch of metal-related sites and message boards are bitching about the results for the Best Hard Rock and Best Metal Performance categories.

MetalSucks continues what seems like a yearly tradition of criticizing the nominations and awards given out at the Grammys for metal and hard rock performances. Honestly, the “outrage” over the relevance or irrelevance of the Grammys is beyond played-out at this point.

All one has to do is read the idiots over at the Blabbermouth.net boards on any Grammy-related posts, and you’ll find gems along the lines of:

Regarding the Best Metal Performance award being given on the pre-telecast awards – “Yeah They do this award off the air because they fucking suck”

    http://mthomassteele.tumblr.com/post/3294900518/we-get-it-metal-fans-the-grammys-are-bullshit-now

  • Bryan

ARCADE FIRE!!!!! So happy they won. Saw them for the secret LA show on friday and during my 9+ hour wait to get the tickets, me and my pal were the only two talking about the Big Four in an Arcade Fire line. Weird or Awesome?!

  • Mordecai 9000

To be honest, I don’t really care who’s nominated or not nominated for the Grammys. I know it’s not going to be anything worthwhile (I mean fuck, Judas Priest won last year for a song they wrote 30 fucking years ago). I’m glad that Maiden got it, they were probably the most deserving of those nominated.

Arcade Fire doesn’t deserve their awards though. The Suburbs was one of the most disappointing records I bought last year.

    • Vinsanity

never heard that band, nor would i pay money for anything that finds its way to the grammys. come on guys, ive been into metal big time only about 4 yrs and know its pointless to even watch. we listen to shit the masses cannot comprehend. i take it as a compliment. and alice in chains sucks. maybe in the 80s when they had a good singer that was cool. also, i dont understand why so many people listen to the shit they did when kids. i will never listen to tool or system of a down or limp bizdick or korn ever again. its cool they got me into this music, but they just cant compare. and maybe they inspired bands i listen to. i dont give a fuck. just like kids wont give a fuck that bands like btbam, the faceless or decrepit birth inspired the coming era of metal. im fine with that. i like progress. hate regress. i hated reading that deftones was most peoples fave albums of last year. seriously its the deftones guys, theyve done nothing new. but thats why i listen to metal; i hate you. and u hate me. ok im done hating.

      • Stu

You sound like one of the dumbest people on Earth, and are the reason the general public associate “metalheads” with stupidity. Nice work.

  • AddRokk

them crooked vultures is a fantastic album

  • Jak M

Fuck the fuckin Grammys! Its all about what fuckin pathetic music you humans shall listen to. Pay attention to this music which will change culture and style. It may sound good as counterfeiting money. Same thing. People need to think.

  • jeff

I am glad Maiden got it, and as a fan of metal i can sorta understand, i am an old school metalhead, and i am under the impression by the tee shirts I see teenage kids wear that Iron Maiden is getting alot of respect, remindes me of myself at that age. so who know maybe 10 years down the line metal may come back bigger than ever. Although i like everything about Iron Maiden, if the young say the new song rules, than it rules.
