picture it in ruins

We first featured Wyoming’s Picture It in Ruins in our “For Fans of BTBAM” Edition of Readers’ Choice last August, but it’s clear from their new stuff that these guys have evolved leaps and bounds in just six months. Luke from the band sent me an update last week with a stream of Picture It In Ruins’ new song “Mass Affect” and I’m positively floored; not only has the band apparently broken their BTBAM-worship shackles but they’ve evolved into something wholly original and stunning, still progressive, but in their own unique way. Stream it below:

Someone please sign this band ASAP! They’ve been together for 11 years — in fucking Wyoming, where the metal scene can’t be all that — and are only getting better and better. It’s an utter injustice that bands like System Divide have record deals and these guys have nothing. West coasters can catch them on tour in March with Antagonist (dates here).

Thank you so much for spreading the word Vince you are the man!

  • AetherJake

We played with these guys, and from their name thought they were going to me generic metalcore. THEY BLEW OUR TITS OFF

  • Bayon

Great song. The intro sounds like M4 Pt.2 by Faunts which was the song played in the credits of the video game Mass Effect. Coincidentally, this song is named Mass Affect. Hmm…

It’s named that because I love those games. The dudes that wrote the music have never played that game, or ever heard that song.

ya i think it sounds like the mass effect soundtrack as well but then turns into the a picture it in ruin’s song filled with brutality and an overlaying layer of beautiful melodies. what a wierd and awesome coincidence. can’t wait for mass effect 3 and PIIR’s cd to come out!!!

  • MeesterDerp

Wow. Looking forward to hearing more from these guys!

“original and stunning, still progressive, but in their own unique way”

Isn’t progressive supposed to be original and stunning? You know, to progress?

Cool band. Would love to see them in NYC.

    • Blargh

Come on. At this stage, progressive is a descriptor. You know what he means…

I saw system divide two days ago. They were pretty bad. Not to mention their drummer uses drum triggers like a crutch. That guy was pounding out “sick” blast beats without breaking a sweat.

Proves that if you have a moderately attractive female in your band, you will get signed.

  • Driven9

    sounds GREAT.

Have they really been together for 11years?? Not being mean but, how old are they? They look all of 22 in the promo pic above. Did they start PiiR when they were 11?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Luke-Friebel/100000223433378 Luke Friebel

Four of us are 24 and one is 23 (that picture is older). The twins and Ed have been in a band for around 13 years now, they started out as a punk band when they were very young. This band is around 3 years old now.

  • Roast Geef

Proggy metal w/ delay guitars and some post-metal/rocky feel… I can dig it.

  • Jewers

This band is damn awesome. D’awesome if you will.

  • Poopenshaft

ok so how can I buy their music?

    • cxj

      THIS….i need to know too!

  • Dingas McCloud

Pretty solid tune… the promo pic is adorable.

Got to not only see these guys but played a show with em in Ogden UT. I had never heard of them before that night but when they did their set my jaw was on the floor. Excellent song writting, brutal attack, sweet musical interludes. Awesome stuff!

They are the most Solid live band I’ve ever seen. Even if they are playing for 15 people. Their shows are one of the few things to look forward to in this town. Hope to see them get signed and take off (:

  • el fucko

WYOMING HAS ACTUAL PEOPLE? I thought it was a family of inbreds and a few packs of wolves.

  • MoonSnake

Man, I don’t feel like it’s that often that I witness a new “sound” being born; you guys are doing something special. I hope that you get some serious exposure and spawn a wave of imitators that don’t compare to the original. Raleigh is a nice city by the way, you guys should like, come and visit.

  • el fucko

I forgot, this is good stuff. Good to hear someone doing something different for once.

Oh man, this song has my head bobbing. Fucking love it. Where’s the newsletter? I wanna see these guys in San Francisco as soon as possible.

  • ACoffinShip

That was way more awesome than I was expecting. Rock on, guys.

  • Vinsanity

hells yes. why the fuck arent these guys signed? mass effect is a great game too, by the way.

  • DeathByHatchet

What is with all the hate for System Divide? I really don’t get it. Isaw them live with Eluveitie, and although the crowd wasn’t really into them, I sure as hell was.

Even with that little jab, I think that I’m still gonna check out Picture it in Ruins, despite the kinda silly name.

  • Scourge441

Whoever mastered the track Loudness War’d the hell out of it. Bad bad bad.

Musically, it’s not bad though. Kinda reminds me of Cloudkicker with vocals and some metalcore leanings.

cool. i can catch them In los gatos then catch grayceon at benders the next day.
    gonna be a cool weekend.
