ARE THE HAUNTED ABOUT TO RELEASE AN AWESOME POP METAL ALBUM?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011 at 10:30am by

Last month we got to hear a live version of “No Ghost,” a new song from The Haunted’s forthcoming Unseen; now another new track, “Disappear,” has been played on the radio, which, of course, means it’s now on the internet. You can check it out below.

What’s interesting about “Disappear,” especially in conjunction with “No Ghost,” is that it suggests a) that Unseen is gonna be a shamelessly hook-heavy album, and b) that Unseen is gonna make a lot of people very, very angry. Personally, I think both songs are great; I don’t even know if they’re metal so much as they’re hard rock, but it’s nice to hear something so catchy amidst all the unstructured noise that bands are trying to pass off as music these days. Unseen might not exactly be Made Me Do It, but I am betting that it’s gonna be really, really good.

But who knows? Maybe there’s some way heavier shit we still haven’t heard on the album. As long as it gets stuck in my head the way this track did, I really do not care.

Unseen comes out later this year on Century.

You know what? It’s very different for them, but i am seriously diggin it.

  • B-Rent

I’m diggin it too. I thought they ran out of ideas for their last cd….

  • matty2fatty

I’m getting a major old-school Tool vibe off of this, awesome

  • Moose_Knuckle

Sounds pretty good but hopefully the album mixes it up a bit, was pretty dissapointed with the last album becouse it was just so generic sounding.

  • word2bigbird

definatly digging this, there is nothing wrong with a few hooks and something that doesnt sound like a mess

  • djabthrash

Sounds good, kinda TOOL-esque like some others said previously.

  • dave texas

It’s good to see The Haunted taking risks and trying new things but I think I’ll pass.

  • Brian

I unfortunately I cannot listen to this at work, but between the Tool comparisons above and the review from theprp.com (part of which is quoted below), I am going to be one of the angry ones who wishes they weren’t heading in the same direction as In Flames. Revolver was a good album, Dead Eye was pretty good, but I had trouble getting hooked into it. Versus was a simplistic pile of crap. So, I can’t say i had my hopes up for Unseen, but from what I am hearing about it, it sounds worse than I thought it would be.

    taken from review on theprp.com:
“A dense and challenging listen, “Unseen” doesn’t so much as find The Haunted hyperactive as it does artistically lost. The variety is appreciated to an extent, but there’s little in the way of a foundation, sans some inspired riffing, to tie the songs together; making it almost a given that each listener will have their own select few tracks they will choose to skip over.

Those hoping for a return to the bands thrashy, heavier roots will be thoroughly disappointed as those days appear to be long gone. If anything “Unseen” sets itself up as a modern rock n’ roll album without the standardized radio rock aspirations.

Sad then that it is an edgy, if not convoluted, balancing act between melody and aggression that tries to offer something for everyone and ultimately overextends itself in the process.”

Got to listen to the song. This would be good from Chevelle, as others have noted. For The Haunted…this blows giant goat balls.

  • ceth carter

Chevelle????? Is that you????? Not saying its good or bad but the way some bands get free passes around here and the way some get hammered for even the slightest changes is just strange. If this wasnt Peter Dolving this would be getting major slammed right now I suspect. One of those that seems to get a free pass around here.

    • B-dizzle

      Definitely thought Chevelle as well

      • uLy

Chevelle? lol. Come on man. So maybe we should rip early Haunted for sounding like Slayer rip offs? Please, this is the single, probably the only catchy song on this entire thing.

        • ceth carter

If it is or isnt the only catchy song on the album is not the point. The point is that it sounds like Chevelle and many other bands on here would be getting destroyed for that. Dolving and The Haunted just seem to be a crew that gets the free pass on here. Not saying I dont like the song or Chevelle because I kinda like both…but The Haunted isnt suppsed to sound like Chevelle.

          • uLy

And here is where you sound like a fucking idiot (and ohters that say the same shit you do). Haunted only sound like “chevelle” because that peter has always had the vocal capabilities that the other Peter and “maynard” have always had- which was a very wide vocal scale capable of both melodic choruses and insane screams (which chevelles peter never chose to do) so shut the fuck up cuz people have been saying this about The Haunted’s “peter” for a long time.

  • Driven9

sounds like a completely dif band… idk what to think yet.

  • cyrollan

There isn’t much time to write good riffs when you’re busy cashing your checks

  • uLy

I love it and i can not wait!!! Hopefully this is the single, (clearly it is) and the rest will be heavier but this will definitely be their highest selling effort.

I’m very excited. Could be my fav album of the year.

  • Blargh

We Built This City gets stuck in my head too. That doesn’t make it good.

Reminds me of finger 11 or some such shit. I hate it.

  • jamesjones

    uh wut

  • evilC

Revolver was such a awesome CD.. so yea compared to that this sounds like absolute shit.

i’ve never been a haunted fan, but this reminds me of Raunchy and i like Raunchy. i don’t think i’ve ever listened to any of their albums the whole way through, but now i’m interested in hearing more of this record.

  • Kye

I haven’t followed these guys in quite some time, but this just rekindled my interest in a major way. This song is fantastic.

  • Ross

Not bad, I’m a little worried though. I didn’t HATE Versus, there were some decent songs on it, including some sweet bonus songs. I might be in the minority to say that The Dead Eye was an amazing album just purely based on Dolving’s emotions on that album. Something seemed very real in his performance, of course from Revolver back has been pretty fucking good. But this song, it’s just…weird. I will still pick it up, but with a heightened sense of skepticism.

    • uLy

Minority? WTF? What’s wrong with some of you people. So disconnected from reality. (No offense to you)

Dead Eyes was the highest selling Haunted album to date.

  • KMFCM

    Glassjaw are already a band

    break up

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nick-Brownfield/500031661 Nick Brownfield

At the Gates to this. I don’t follow.

  • Brendan Demeris

yeah this band got real shit

  • leroydragon

Haters gonna hate – new track is insane, metal’s faith no more is The Haunted – you never really know what you are going to get. Thank fuck there is a band trying new things.

  • Che Guitarra

I recognize it’s a good jam, but it’s totally “Meh” for me.

  • jeff

this is what the haunted truned into to? i loved there first album, wish they would of stuck with the thrash instead of dance.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jamel-Banner/731572742 Jamel Banner

Anders and Jensen playing modern rock = DO NOT WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • eetfuk

Ax, honestly, are you enjoying this or are you getting paid?!? Even Disturbed sound heavier and more musically interesting that this.

  • kornholio

Nobody likes this shit except Dolving cock sucker uLy. Even more horrible than Dead by April and Sonic Syndicate.

    • uLy

Most of the reviews i’ve read have been positive so what are you talking about? Love seeing people complain that things aren’t “brutal” enough. Shut the fuck up. This “it’s gotz to be brutal or it sucks” movement is what is making this genre stale as fuck.
