UNSIGNED AND UNHOLY: MORE DECENT BANDS THAT SOUND JUST LIKE OTHER BANDS

(Thumbs up for proficient mediocrity!)

Are you a fan of Insomnium, Protest the Hero, Devin Townsend or Cradle of Filth? Well then, read on! We’ve found a few unsigned bands we think you’ll like.

  • Meadows End: If you enjoy epicly dark bands like Insomnium, Omnium Gatherum, Mar De Grises, Swallow the Sun, Daylight Dies, etc… congrats, this band is for you! Meadows End use keyboards as more of a lead instrument than any of those bands instead of as something to merely fill in the aural cracks, which is a nice touch; I especially enjoy the clean piano sounds.
  • Trusted Few: Ok so now I guess the cool thing is to sound like Protest the Hero? These guys do an admirable job — and don’t always sound like PtH — but sometimes they get way too close for comfort. Sorta like a more metalcore-y Protest.
  • The Omega Experiment: This band sounds a lot like Devin Townsend, running the gamut from SYL to his solo record to the Devin Townsend Project. Not a bad dude to pick to imitate, but let’s call a spade a spade. Apparently Devin even gave this band his blessing, so at least there’s that.
  • Hymir: Hymir are from the Netherlands and are essentially a new version of Cradle of Behemo-Borgir. Well-executed but nothing you haven’t heard before.
