NOW WE HAVE TO TYPE THE WORDS “ACADEMY AWARD WINNER” EVERY TIME WE TYPE THE NAME “TRENT REZNOR”

Monday, February 28th, 2011 at 10:00am by

Yes, that’s correct: last night, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross won the Oscar for Best Original Score for their work on The Social Network. That’s not really a surprise — they’ve been winning awards for their score pretty much since the movie came out back in October — but still, I doubt that anyone ever really thought that this dude would some day win an Academy Award:

In any case, mazel tov to Reznor and Ross — their score really is quite brilliant, and they deserve a pat on the back.

You can download The Social Network score or just six bucks here. In case you didn’t see it last night, enjoy video of Reznor and Ross’ acceptance speech after the jump.

You’re kidding yourself if you don’t think Hans Zimmer got robbed.

Hans Zimmer has won a large handful of awards in the past already, including an academy award. He’s established, and this will NOT affect his career in the least bit in the future. He’s very famous and popular.

TRENT FUCKING REZNOR ON THE OTHER HAND, as far as the academy is concerned, is up-and-coming. he’s been working his ASS off for the past year on multiple projects, and he come out every single time with GREAT MUSIC and GREAT RESULTS!

He’s proving not only to be a great musician, but a great business man. thats what the academy is recognizing him for. BEING A PROFESSIONAL!

so go home, and cry that you’re sure-thing didnt follow through. not like you’ve been a fan of Hans Zimmer for 15 years, WHICH I HIGHLY FUCKING DOUBT! THIS IS SETTING THE PACE FOR TRENT TO TAKE ON MORE PROJECTS AND PROVE HIMSELF AS A MUSICIAN AND BUSINESS MAN.

That was way too much rambling to reinforce your very ill thought out point.

I’m much more of a fan of Reznor, that’s not really relevant to anything though. It’s about the music, not who is famous and who is an up and comer or whatever (which he isn’t, hope this helps)

      • Random

Truth is, the score for Inception was superior to the score for The Social Network. End of story. Up and comer my ass, Zimmer was robbed.

Wow, Trent is so far from a rock star in this video. I realize he’s older, mature, whatever. But man it just seems wrong him up there with a nicely trimmed beard, tux, etc.

  • Cougar Party

The soundtrack was the best part about the whole movie.

  • Vakarm

on the side, i am really glad “The King’s Speech” got best film and best actor. well deserved!

  • Matt

    Daft Punk got robbed.

    • Beenyad

I actually thought that was a really shitty soundtrack. Nothing special about it at all.

      • Stu

Yeah, same here. Just so so Daft Punk stuff.

  • Greg

I’ll just download my six bucks, thanks.

Or you could just get Ghosts I for free from the NiN website, considering the score is mostly just that, marginally modified.

    • Colin

No not really. Similar sounds yeah, but if you watch the extras on the Social Network, they show how they composed it.
Ghosts was made from a collaboration of artists.
Just because they’re both ambient and don’t have singing doesn’t mean they’re the same…

Unless I was really stoned when I saw it (I was, but thats besides the point), a good portion of the tracks are, in fact, Ghosts tracks. Like I said, modified a little to fit the film, but it’s the same ambient tracks he released for fair use. They might not necessarily be on Ghosts I, but they’re definitely in the collection somewhere.

“The film’s score bears a similar sound to the previous Reznor/Ross 2008 collaboration, Ghosts I-IV, and even features two slightly reworked tracks from Ghosts. (The track “Magnetic” is reworked from “14 Ghosts II”, and “A Familiar Taste” is a remix of “35 Ghosts IV”.)”

I have a feeling the tux & bow tie was a joke, Trent is smart enough to not turn into one of “them”
