Sumerian Records SXSW showcase

We told you last week about our very own SXSW “South By South Death” day party on Friday, March 18th at Headhunters, featuring the very excellent lineup of Kvelertak, Havok, Red Fang, Wormot and Meek is Murder, and also sponsored by Roxwel.com and NARM. MS contributor and Texas native Corey Mitchell has been doing a fine job keeping you abreast of other metal happenings at SXSW 2011.

Now we’ve got one more event to add to the fray. MetalSucks is proud to be sponsoring the official Sumerian Records showcase on Wednesday, March 16th, featuring some of our most favoritest bands: The Faceless, Veil of Maya and Animals as Leaders. The awesome lineup, which will play the Habana Bar backyard, is rounded out by Upon a Burning Body, Struc/tures, and NY up-and-comers Ultrageist. Be there!

How dare you pull The Faceless out of the studio and postpone the Planetary Duality follow up. How. Dare. You.

I hate to be nit picky, but have you noticed Sumerian Records have a Sphinx as its model? Sumeria was nowhere near Egypt. It was in what is now western Iraq, northern Syria and maybe farther north. But I guess we’re interested in metal, not ancient societies, which most scholars think Sumeria was the oldest and the first to adopt agricultural tools and found villages and later on, cities.

you’re not alone, my friend. This has indeed been giving me a headache for some time… oh well, not worth losing sleep over!

      • Genaro Cucalón

        +1

Been bugging me for a while. Feel like such a nerd right now haha.
Also, some historians seem to be arguing that the first societies appeared near China, but I haven’t actually looked further into it.

    • Fuso

Sumerians ruled most of Mesopotamia no ?? i know they built pyramids and such too so i guess a Sphinx looks a tad cooler then a plain ass pyramid lol

      • http://northernsword.bandcamp.com/ NORTHERN SWORD

        Ass pyramid.

            Hey, thanks!

  • Dakotaw

Great lineup except for uabb and i have never heard of the other band.

  • Brownsound279

I like Ultrageist. Give their whole album a listen, its very diverse and “weird” but its got a quality to it I enjoyed (for instance one track is merely 0:40 of dubstep).. if you like progressive sumerian type metal check it out

    Official SXSW showcase = fail.

Great lineup but everyone knows SXSucks. See what I did there?

    • your father liked it

Wrong! THOUSANDS of bands in one city for a week is a win, the people who miss fail.

      • Steven

No, you’re wrong. SXSW is a nightmare. All of sxsw should be free, but they’ve eventually let all the labels take it over anyway. Used to be a way for bands to get scouted. Now you have to be on a label to play any official sxsw show it seems.

There are other free fests going on at the same time though. Like Heart of Texas, and SouthBySoWhat.

I still plan on getting into emo’s tonight, though.
