EARLY GRAVES SOLDIER ON, BACK IN THE STUDIO

early graves in the studio 2011

Are the dudes at Heavy Blog is Heavy killing it lately or what? First they single-handedly got Devin Townsend to add Greg Puciato to the list of vocal collaborators on Deconstruction, all through the power of Twitter. Now they’ve done some bonafide real-deal journalism and picked up on the fact that Early Graves — whose vocalist Makh Daniels tragically passed away last August in a van accident – are back in the studio.

Even the band members themselves were unsure of what the future would hold following Daniels’ death, but I’m certainly not alone in thinking that it would’ve been incredibly sad if they’d stopped making music altogether. Goner, Early Graves’ last effort, was a big step forward for the band both musically and for their burgeoning career, as the album saw the band receive plenty of good press (we even premiered a track). It wasn’t simply an example of fame being elevated post-mortem; all of that happened before Daniels passed.

More importantly, we’re glad the band has decided to continue on. A series of Twitter updates indicate they’re tracking three new tunes with the working titles “Fast,” “Crowbar” and “Groove.” The band has not yet found a new vocalist; we can only imagine how difficult that will be. Hopefully we’ll get to hear what the band has been up to at some point in 2011.

Hope this band keeps bringing it. Loved Goner. Whoever is singing has some big shoes to fill.

Excellent news. When Mahk died I was really saddened. Glad they decided to keep going.

Goner was one of my favorite records of last year. Glad to hear they are going to try to soldier through it in a time that’s got to be beyond difficult for them. My heart goes out to you dudes.

Great band, great people. Brock is a riff machine, so I’m sure this will pan out. Sneddon is a crafty ginger, though. Watch out.

Band is so good live. I’m glad they decided to keep going
