Believer - Transhuman

I will listen to the new Believer album. I will listen to the new Believer album. I will listen to the new Believer album. I will listen to the new Believer album. I will listen to the new Believer album. I will listen to the new Believer album. I will listen to the new Believer album. I will listen to the new Believer album. I will listen to the new Believer album. I will listen to the new Believer album. I will listen to the new Believer album. I will listen to the new Believer album.

Every song I’ve heard from the new Believer album Transhuman has rocked my balls off and completely shattered my expectations of what I thought this band was all about. Yet I still haven’t sat down with the full record yet. Why? I do not know. I hereby pledge to do so. Today’s subway iPod music is going to be Believer. I’ll even forego Angry Birds to focus on the music! That’s big, people, big.

In early March the band gave you “G.U.T.” and now they’re giving you two new Transhuman jams, the epic Faith No Morian “Mindsteps” and proggy thrashsterpiece “Ego Machine.” Jam with me:

Believer “Mindsteps” by Metal Blade Records

Believer “Ego Machine” by Metal Blade Records

I mean… right???

Transhuman drops April 12th on Metal Blade. Pre-order it here.

    Are you serious?

I know right? Sound like Devin Townsand Project.

      Lame.

This is REALLY different for them. Dimensions is one of my favorite records and this sounds nothing like it. I think I dig it, but I still have to get over the shock.

Mindsteps is definitely different, but Ego Machine reminds me a lot of their old stuff.

I already like this more than Gabriel. Production is a lot better (you can hear the drums this time), and Kurt can actually sing?! Nice.

    are they transexuals?

First time i hear the band. What a perfect first impression!!! Its like Tool+DevinTownsendProject+OrgasmicAmbientProg. Really loved it. I WILL LISTEN TO THE NEW BELIEBER ALBUM.

    You work at Subway?

That guitar tone is fucking terrible.

    • alliaphagist

That’s one of their trademarks actually, although it’s a little more refined on this album. They’ve always used a very thick, chunky tone. Since at least 1989. They even sometimes overdub with slightly detuned guitars just to make it nastier. I guess it’s kind of a love or hate thing, but I’ve always loved it.

I am sooooo ready for this. Truly one of the great underappreciated bands of our time. Give us a full review! I preordered, but I want to get an idea of what the whole thing sounds like.

  • Abbath’s Firstborn

This sounds a lot like Paradise Lost when they were in their sort of Industrial-ish/Depeche Mode-ish phase. It’s not bad, but I’ll have to hear more. The guitar tone sounds fine for the song and I like the keyboard work.

  • Vomit Nest

That first tune should be cut in half. By the time the tune kicked in I was bored nearly to tears and skipped to the next one.
Second tune though – lots of it sounds EXACTLY like Obscura – 2:35 into this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mesr2siegRg

    Beleiber.

I refuse to a band that releases an album with futury-introspective way too clean artwork with a name like Believer. I haven’t even looked at the entire article and i’m going to guess they’re like a heavier version of Cynic with a djenty guitar tone.

New album is great, but it is definitely different than anything before. Obviously sounds the most like Gabriel, but more melodic in guitar work and vocals. Riffier too than that album.
