PETER STEELE TRIBUTE ALBUM ON THE WAY

Friday, April 8th, 2011 at 11:30am by

Did you know that it’s been almost a year since Peter Steele died? Crazy, but true; the Type O frontman passed away on April 14th, 2010 at the age of 48.

Our own resident Peter expert Anso DF is planning something special for April 14th, but in the meantime we figured we’d let you know about a tribute album our friends at MetalUnderground.com are organizing. In collaboration with Dan Mitchell of Beneath The Woods Studio, MetalUnderground.com has teamed up with a dozen underground bands from across the globe to release an exclusive tribute album entitled All For None, None For All: A Tribute to Peter Steele featuring twelve cover songs from many stages of Peter’s career in both Type O Negative and Carnivore. The tracklisting:

1. Auvernia – “I Don’t Wanna Be Me”
2. Fairytale Abuse – “Black No. 1”
3. In.verno – “Everything Dies”
4. Dead Shape Figure – “Dead Again”
5. Revilement – “Sex and Violence”
6. Emancer – “Girlfriend’s Girlfriend”
7. A Band of Orcs – “Green Man”
8. Enthrope – “Wolf Moon”
9. Stabbingback – “Halloween in Heaven”
10. Dark Hound – “Life Is Killing Me”
11. Autumns Eyes – “Love You To Death”
12. Blind Greed – “Christian Woman”

All For None, None For All: A Tribute To Peter Steele will be available in digital format through Metalunderground.com for a small price, required to cover the mechanical licensing fees and transaction fees. Metalunderground.com content manager Ty Arthur commented, “Ideally, we wanted to give this tribute away for free and let it spread like wildfire, but when distributing cover songs there are licensing fees involved since the original compositions belong to the artist and/or label. This tribute is meant to honor Peter Steele and Type O Negative’s impact on his fans and the metal landscape. We do not intend to make a penny off of this release and any earnings we may have at the end of the day will be donated to charity.”

Stay tuned for a release date and further details.

Those are the best bands they could get? Wtf.

  • Braston

Did someone seriously ask who Peter Steele was….? Sad day.

    • !!!

I only learned of his greatness following his passing. It brings up very odd emotions to discover a great composer and a great person through the coverage of their death.

Wow, these are the only bands they could get? I was expecting MDB, Katatonia and some of the other gothic/death doom champions to be on this…

Ah well, I suppose any tribute is better than no tribute

  • http:///www,twistedcritic.wordpress.com Chris

They rejected my band’s cover of “Machine Screw”, but I guess that’s what we get for having a guy do it.

  • nateD

What!? Nobody covered Jack Daniels and Pizza?!

    • SENTINEL

Most epic, emotional, and spiritually enlightening song ever.

  • FRESH FIST IN YOUR FACE

ALL THE BANDS ARE O.K. I GUESS. I MEAN THEY COULD HAVE DONE A LOT BETTER. BUT, ILL TELL YA WHAT BLIND GREED ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? THEY ARE THE BIGGEST HACK FAKE ASS BAND OUT THERE BY FAR. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD THEM LIVE? SINGERS VOICE SOUNDS LIKE MY LITTLE BROTHER NUTS GOT STEEPED ON. GIVE IT UP LOSER . MAN AX7 SHOULD BE DOING AN ENTIRE ALBUM OF COVERS. THAT WOULD BY FAR BE THE BEST BET, AND I KNOW PETER STEELE WOULD BE DAMN PROUD TO HAVE SUCK A GREAT BAND RE-DO THERE SONGS.

MOAR capslock! i guess you wished you could’ve used bold and italic here as well.

    • Brad_Greed

Hm, well I play lead guitar with Blind Greed and I happen to think we did a fairly decent job covering ‘Christian Woman’. Why don’t you wait to listen to it before you give your review. After all, can you sing a Type O song?

    • Brad_Greed

By the way, explain “THEY ARE THE BIGGEST HACK FAKE ASS BAND OUT THERE BY FAR”

First off, NO. Peter Steele was the man, and he can’t be duplicated. His voice was one of a kind, and it can’t be redone.

Second, who the fuck are any of those bands? If they’re going to pay respect to a giant, they need to pay fucking respect, and this won’t do it.

    RIP

  • nateD

I remember feeling somewhat burned as well when getting the celtic frost tribute album several years ago, since I hadn’t heard of many of the bands on the album, but there were a couple of surprising gems to be heard, so all may not be bad.

  • Blind Greed Bass

All the bands that were ASKED to be on this tribute are mostly unsigned metal bands. There were some “big” bands asked to be on this but they all wanted $. We did this because it was something we believed in and wanted to pay respect to a man that influenced alot of people including us (Blind Greed). We paided for our recording ourselfs, busted our ass doing it and will get no money in return. We only hope people will enjoy our version of Christian Woman and remember the man who wrote it. If you don’t like it I’m sorry. But at least we tried. Please reserve your judgement until you have had a chance to hear it. Then if you think it sucks, so be it.

It will be released on April 14

It’s a shame metal injection killed Peter Steele.
