GLOOM-Y JOB FOR A COWBOY GO TO THE “MISERY REFORMATORY,” DISPLAY THEIR “SIGNATURE OF STARVING POWER”

So Job for a Cowboy have a new EP coming out sometime this year. It’s called Gloom, and there’s one new song, “Misery Reformatory,” already available for download, although it’s not streaming anywhere yet. I am listening to it right now, though, and I can tell you that’s it’s good stuff. It definitely has the best guitar solo I’ve ever heard in a JFAC song. Check it out.

Meanwhile, the band has also posted footage of Jon “The Charn” Rice rehearsing another new track, “Signature Of Starving Power,” which also sounds promising. Hopefully the band will debut some of this material on their upcoming MetalSucks-sponsored tour with Between the Buried and Me, The Ocean, and Cephalic Carnage.

yeh I know….. I just figured most people would check there anyway.

  • A normal human like the rest of you

I have to say this isn’t bad at all, aside from the vocals, but it’s not mind blowing or anything.

Oh despite being in JFAC I think Charn is a good drummer.

    • Colin

I like a lot of JFAC, and this still isn’t as good to me as anything on Genesis, sounds more like Ruination which was meh.
Despite being in JFAC? JFAC’s old drummer was much better than Charn IMO.

I hate their early stuff, but the newer stuff is actually pretty sick.

Yeah it’s happening with a lot of deathcore bands… ditch the breakdowns, get a new singer and call me in the morning.

      • Colin

They did ditch the deathcore elements starting with the pig squeal and have been going technical dethmetal ever since.
        The singer is fine.

Jonny Davy has possibly the most unique and awesome screaming style ever heard in this techdeath genre, what ever genre they might be, have you ever listened to Flesh Wrought he is so fantastic in that too, maybe you should open your mind and really listen to this fantastic man.

damn thanks alot for bringing up flesh wrought. i had no idea Jonny was in another band. i love his vocal style. awesome high pitch. amazing lows and even throws in some medium range sometimes like in ruination. just sounds so different from alot of death vocals out today. thanks man

I actually prefer Doom and Genesis over Ruination by a good margin. They were more or less my first real exposure to deathcore (I lived in a hole prior to finding MetalSucks, what of it?) and the sound was really fresh to me. Ruination just seemed generic in comparison. It was a technical step up, sure. But it just felt hollow.

This is getting a bit better. I think it needs more low gutturals but aside from that, I’m definitely interested. Either way I’m looking forward to seeing them with The Ocean and BTBAM.

    • Colin

I agree with everything you said about their previous albums

  • Dubs

Doom was the greatest non-Red-Chord and non-Despised-Icon deathcore album ever.

  • Cysquatch

I know it’s not “proper” around these parts, but JFAC’s Doom EP is one of my favorite albums. It was my first exposure to real extreme metal an I am still in love with it to this day.

One of my guilty pleasures for sure. BREEEBREEBREEBREEEEEE

      Same here man!!!

This band gets sooooo much shit for that album and I dont know why. Its the way deathcore should have been done before the genre went to complete basic boring shit.

They got older (and like everybody as as they got older) grew to a more mature style of metal.

Cant wait to see them in a couple weeks.. they fuck shit up live.

  • masterjake5000

    Hmmmmmm….

First EP Doom… Second EP Gloom..

They fucking rhyme! Oh my god right now!
