NEILSTEIN SOUNDSCAM: FOO YOU!

Two days late but not two dollars short, I figure ya’ll might like to know how all the albums that came out last Tuesday (April 12th) fared sales-wise, even though I think we can all agree that album sales aren’t the be-all-end-all measure of a band’s success. So without further ado, here’s how the new Between the Buried and Me, Foo Fighters and Red Fang albums sold last week.

Also, Dave Grohl is a very rich man; in addition to the ginormous debut of his new Foo Fighters album, seemingly every Foo catalog album made a return back onto the charts this past week.

Right, the numbers:

1 FOO FIGHTERS – WASTING LIGHT
Last week: 234,527 (debut)

Huge debut. Axl and I heard one of the songs from this record on the radio while we were in L.A. this week, and it was really good. Along with “White Limo,” that’s two for two so far.

2 HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD – AMERICAN TRAGEDY
Last week: 22,770
Cume: 89,005

This is around the time I start getting really bored of coming up with funny things to say about this horrible band.

4 ASKING ALEXANDRIA –  RECKLESS & RELENTLESS
Last week: 10,697
Cume: 42,146

5 BETWEEN THE BURIED & ME – PARALLAX: HYPERSLEEP DIALOGUES
Last week: 9,980 (debut)

Not sure how this stacks up against past BTBAM releases, but 10k strikes me as a great number for 2011. Two great weeks in a row for Metal Blade artist debuts.

6 RISE AGAINST – ENDGAME
Last week: 8,760
Cume: 137,898

With only an 8% drop from last week, this album is looking mighty good as sales level off. If they can maintain drops of less than 10% from week to week they’ll be doing just fine for quite a while! They deserve it too; this album is really good.

17 AMON AMARTH – SURTUR RISING
Last week: 3,465
Cume: 23,592

29 WHITESNAKE –  FOREVERMORE
Last week: 2,755
Cume: 19,311

Who woulda thunk it? I’m listening to this album right now and it is most certainly deserved of its relatively solid sales.

33 GUNS ‘N ROSES –  CHINESE DEMOCRACY
Last week: 2,372
Cume: 623,386

That’s a 5% increase over last week! It’s also $4,720.28 closer to recouping that $14 million Best Buy purchase.

35 WITHIN TEMPTATION – UNFORGIVING
Last week: 2,230
Cume: 17,726

47 FOO FIGHTERS – MEDIUM RARE
Last week: 1,996 (debut)

That’s a Record Store Day limited edition vinyl, and I’m guessing those are all that copies that were made.

72 SOUNDGARDEN – LIVE ON I-5 1,479 -0 1,480 16,539

76 CHILDREN OF BODOM – RELENTLESS, RECKLESS FOREVER
Last week: 1,408
Cume: 21,882

My sources tell me Spinefarm and Fontana are viewing this CoB record as a massive failure sales wise.

83 RED FANG – MURDER THE MOUNTAINS
Last week: 1,311 (debut)

Congrats to Red Fang for making the charts. It’s a good record.

87 CAVALERA CONSPIRACY –  BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA
Last week: 1,280
Cume: 8,214

This record is dunzo. Oof.

89 BORN OF OSIRIS – DISCOVERY
Last week: 1,251
Cume: 11,725

  • Metalguy

Correction, Red Fang’s new one isn’t fantastic, is amazing

  • BC

These numbers are fairly unsurprising as usual aside from Red Fang’s appearance and Rise Against selling less than BTBAM, that’ excellent for them but overall just about what I would have expected.

  • Chris

unlike many mainstream artists Dave Grohl deserves to be rich because everything he does is awesome

I really like Dave Grohl as an individual, but I have never been able to get into the Foo Fighters. Ever.

      • Tr00Metal

I can see why, they’ve always been a straight-forward pop-rock/alternative band. The new album kicks a lot of ass, though, for anyone who digs the band.

        FRESH POTS!

        • JW

          +1 for FRESH POTS!

  • A normal human like the rest of you

I love the new Foo Fighters album. The music video for “White Limo” is hilarious.

    • Josh

I heard one of their newest songs on the radio, and it sounded like Nirvana in 2011. Which I thought was pretty badass because Dave Grohl is somehow sounding like Curt Cobain, and they’re two different people, and my fucking mind is blown, and my fucking mind is blown..etc

Despite being one of the biggest alt rock acts of the 1990s, and despite all of their albums being certified platinum except their more recent two, “Wasting Light” was Foo Fighters’ first Billboard number one album. I just thought that was interesting.

    • Isaac

Certainly says something about the decline in music sales.

The ONLY reason ‘Chinese Democracy’ is all of a sudden selling.
Is due to the fact that BestBuy marked the CD down to $1.99.

I saw it in Best Buy and thought it was a mistake.
BestBuy must have a million of these CD’s sitting in their storage facilities and have finally come to the realization it’s never going to be a hit and sell in big numbers.

At this point they just want to basically give the CD’s away for nothing to get rid of them.

    • Chrispy Biscuit

That was noted in last week’s Soundscan report.

      • http://rich0376@yahoo.com Rich0376

Yeah, I’m an idiot I just saw that. I haven’t been on this site for a few weeks.
But now I see this topic has been talked to death already.

        • Stu

          Here and everywhere else.

    • Anthony

      Free shipping too, nice.

      • Brandon

I bought it the day it came out, and when I saw it on vinyl for 1.99, I picked up a second copy because although I think it’s a decent record, buying it for $1.99 is hilarious.

        • http://www.last.fm/user/opeth027 Kyle

I bought two copies of the vinyl version, one for myself and one for a friend, for pretty much the same reason!

And I’ve also seen a vinyl copy marked $17.99 still in a local indie record store near me…

  • Sergeant D

    Fuck yeah hollywood undead

    • http://hipstersoutofmetal.blogspot.com/ Anso DF

      Fuck yeah whitesnake

  • Brine

As bad as I hate to admit it…..the new FooFighters is pretty good. It’s pretty solid from start to finish. Now….the Red Fang album kicks ass! I’m wasn’t familiar with them and this cd turned me right around. Just a great album…..

    • Pastor of Muppets

You hate to admit to liking good music?

      • msv81

Seriously. God forbid your geeky status as the ultimate tr00kvlt warrior is put into question because you like an album more than 36 people have heard of.

Good music is good music, despite whatever labels may be attached to it. There’s no shame in enjoying it.

  • Cornblood

For COB, that seems like a good number of sales in the States.

  • Plasmaterial

Problem with CoB is that Blooddrunk opened with 20k sales first week…This album has been a spectacular failure in comparison.

  • Joe

Man, Cavalera Conspiracy is sucking. The last album sold 50k!

  • Rich

The new Whitesnake is awesome! Listen to the title track and you can hear why Mikael Akerfeldt worships David Coverdale.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Andrew-Sterner/1335958279 Andrew Sterner

Does anyone else think something about the new FF song “white Limo” has a Kyuss-y desert rock feel to it? Really liking that album. I’m glad not all of mainstream rock is dead, Mr. Grohl may be the life support for the genre, but there’s still a pulse.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jared-Turner/1201596765 Jared Turner

The new Cavalera conspiracy is better than all that shit!! wtf?
