THE DUBSTEP DEBATE RAGES ON: GRINDSTEP?!?!?

(from TheChive.com)

Like it or hate it, dubstep has made its presence felt in the metal scene and it is not going anywhere any time soon. Ever since I first posted about “djentstep” it seems like we’ve been getting just about one reader “this is so aewsome you gotta check it out their the best!!!” email per day with another link to a metal/dubstep mash-up. And as Axl reported yesterday, even Korn are getting in on the dubstep party to the displeasure of ears everywhere.

One of the better dubstep jamz to come our way is this interpretation of one of my favorite Darkest Hour songs, “Convalescence,” done by Arkturus. Reader Isaac Lunsford sent this in, and apparently the DH dudes were so tickled by it they posted it on their own Facebook page:

DUFF MCKAGAN PEELS OFF HIS WIFE’S CLOTHES “DEAD SKIN”

Friday, April 1st, 2011 at 12:00pm by

Crave Online has premiered Duff McKagan’s Loaded’s new video, “Dead Skin,” and in this case, “dead skin” seems to be a clever metaphor for “clothing.” Because the best parts of this video have Mrs. Duff, the almost unfairly beautiful former model/current designer Susan Holmes, stripping away various articles of clothing. Not that I’m complaining  – the rest of the video is pretty boring.

On a less lecherous note, it’s nice to see drummer Isaac Carpenter (formerly of Loudermilk) getting so many close-ups. Humorously enough, Loudermilk started out as a Guns N’ Roses cover band, .22s N’ Tulips, and now Carpenter actually plays in McKagan’s band. Guy’s an awesome drummer, so he deserves any success that comes his way.

THIS BABY ALREADY HAS TERRIBLE TASTE IN MUSIC

Friday, April 1st, 2011 at 11:30am by

Sure, he’s cute now, but wait twelve years. He’s gonna be one of those karate moshing douchebags, just you watch.

Does Upon a Burning Body seriously have a song where they yell “CHUG! CHUG! CHUG!” over and over again? Are they a metal band, or a fraternity?

This is why it’s important to have good parents who raise you to know the difference between awesomeness and drek.

HELP VEIL OF MAYA RETRIEVE THEIR STOLEN VAN

Friday, April 1st, 2011 at 11:00am by

I’m gonna keep this short, because our feelings about thieving dickheads are pretty well known. The following message was posted on Veil of Maya’s Facebook page yesterday:

So that obviously SUCKS. Here’s the picture of the trailer/van. Seriously, if you do live in the area, keep your eyes peeled and let’s catch this asshole:

CONTINUE YOUR FRIDAY WITH TOO-BRIEF SAMPLES OF NEW AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED MUSIC

Friday, April 1st, 2011 at 10:30am by

The release of the new Agoraphobic Nosebleed/Despise You split, And On And On…, is getting closer and closer, and now our friends at The Deciblog have two new AnB songs from said split for your listening pleasure — “Miscommunication” and “As Bad As It Is…” The first one isn’t even thirty seconds long, which is kind of a bummer, but the second is one a proper scorcher.

“Possession,” one of the first songs from the split that the band released, is still my favorite of the tracks we’ve heard — but that’s not a knock against these songs at all.

Listen here, then pre-order that shit here. Relapse will release And On And On… on April 26.

KICK OFF YOUR FRIDAY WITH TOO-BRIEF SAMPLES OF NEW CHIMAIRA MUSIC

Friday, April 1st, 2011 at 10:00am by

Alright, so I have no idea who the YouTube user known as   is, but he’s made my day by posting the below video, which shows Chimaira’s longtime producer, Ben Schigel, working on the band’s new album in the studio (peep vocalist Mark Hunter texting in the corner) — which means we get to hear roughly sixty seconds of new music.

And what a sixty seconds it is! That is a classic Chimaira riff right there — fully of groove, heavy as fuck, and retardedly catchy. I need to hear more of this album, and I need to hear it, like, yesterday.

Amazingly, this video — which was not sanctioned by the band — has been on YouTube for over a month, but it was only just brought to my attention by a reader calling himself “Butters” (obviously a Chimaira die-hard like myself).

And weirder still is that in the “suggestions” column next to the above video was a link to ANOTHER video with some MORE killer new Chimaira music in it, which has ALSO been up since February. This one’s audio quality is even worse than that of the first vid, because some dude filmed the band working on Ustream right off his monitor. But if you’re like me, new Chimaira music is new Chimaira music and you’ll take it however you can get it.

Second vid after the jump…
