THE FACELESS LEAK A PRE-PRODUCTION DEMO, ALL LEGIT AND SHIT

The Faceless

We’ve been getting emails for days about a supposedly leaked pre-production demo version of “The Eidelon Reality,” a new song that The Faceless have been playing live for some time. But every time I’d go and click a link the song would already have been pulled from YouTube [sad face]. Here I thought Sumerian Records was being pissy about a song leaking out that wasn’t supposed to (what’s the harm? good press, right?), but now we come to learn they were just doing a little quality control; peep the “official” pre-production version above with a handy-dandy “New Album Coming This Fall” bumper in case somehow there exists a Faceless fan that didn’t already know.

Peep the new track after the jump:

Old-school (lawlz!) Faceless fans and metal purists will instantly be butthurt by the presence of more clean vocals than in the band’s past material, but I really couldn’t care less; as with everything this band does the clean singing is done tastefully rather than cheesily / annoyingly, and there’s noboutadoubt the fact that The Faceless’ signature sound is quite intact.* There is no mistaking this tune for any other band, and that’s a good thing. Raise your hand via comment boner-stroking if you’re as excited for the new Faceless album as I am.

Thanks: No Clean Singing

First commenter to say “the signature sound of what, clicky bass drums and weedily-weedily guitars?” or similar gets banned. You think I’m kidding? Try me.

The signature sound of what, sweet-ass bass drums and both melodically and technically pleasing guitars?

    Liking it very much.

I don’t get why people don’t like this band.

    • im feeling cunty

because people are too busy listening to tool to listen to good music

I’m hearing a bit of the ol’ King Crimson in this here spectacular song. Gotta love those odd, yet captivating, time signature changes.

Cleans are much better than they used to be, which is good. And it already sounds better than PD, which I enjoyed

    Looking forward to this release.

Also looking forward to seeing them live and hearing Rydquist say “this is the title track from our new album, called THUH EIDELAWN REALITYYYYYUUHH”

they’re pretty disappointing live. they played all of planetary duality but played it out of order which was confusing. then the only song off akeldama they played was an autopsy. also the only person moving was the lead vocalist and he was only rocking back and forth on his mic stand.

      • Mouthful of Precious Stones

they dont move alot but calling them disappointing isnt really fair. they play their shit flawlessly, and for such technical music thats good enough

        • Oh Yeah

It’s hard for me to say they play it “flawlessly” live. Partially because I’ve seen them twice (once right after the release of Akeldama, and once after Planetary Duality), and neither time did they have the full line-up; the first time the keyboard player (this is when they had one) wasn’t there, the second time the bass player wasn’t there.

I dunno…I wasn’t really blown away by either performance. It wasn’t awful, it was just…okay.

          • Milan

Yeah, well I’ve seen them 3 times. 1 time was pretty good, just a few minor fuckups, the second time i saw them (at the summer slaughter) there were soooo many fuck ups it hurt to see. But the last time i saw them with suffocation, they were absolutely flawless, and they were all moving around a lot, i think its because they were playing a new song and were more into it. I can kind of understand how they get a bit bored out of playing the same songs for almost 3 years and lose a little bit of the enthusiasm. But anyways so far they’ve been more good than bad live.

  • Bach

Im interested to see what else comes from this cd, i think this song is rather weak, but hopefully there are better ones out there.

  • jack

My two cents: This is awesome and makes me even more excited about the new album.

It’s no Planetary Duality – what could be, in preproduction demo form? – but it’s definitely the faceless. Clean vox are fine, as long as they keep it fucking technical and spacey.

    • boazhimself

      i agree with you sir

      • joshless

        agreed

  • Matt

The bass drum is pretty clicky…..

    But that’s because it’s a pre-production, duh!

  • Matt

Im also glad to see you’ll “ban” people for expressing their opinion. You guys are the one that turned on comments, try to not be so butthurt

  • Jman

Am I the first to notice that this track was posted by No Clean Singing, while it actually has a whole bunch of Clean Singing?!

    • Burger

But if you notice, No Clean Singing was very much against the clean singing.

      • Jman

Ah that explains. Well, at least they stay tr00 to their name.

      • Full Metal Life Jacket

I’m with them, the clean singing on this is awful.

  • Sapien

I dunno. It’s just so self-indulgent I had a hard time enjoying any of it. I’m totally picturing them in the studio, recording their parts, and egging each other on by saying, “Hey dude, could you make that part a little more wanky?”

    • Milan

Your gonna have to justify that dude… In what way is it wanky? Theres almost no shredding in the song and most of the riffing consist of jazzy chord progressions and groovy riffs that are actually considerably less technical than most of their stuff…. I don’t know what your definition of wankery is…

  • Charlie Brown

This band has done nothing but blow my dick off since I’ve seen them live 2 years ago. Demon Carcass seems to be top notch on this song which could be good if it translates to the album. I’m kinda at half-mast over this song. I wouldn’t mind it being on the album but it doesn’t really stand out in anyway compared to their other work, except for the lengthy clean singing section. Regardless, hearing new faceless music will always send some extra blood to my ween.

  • spaceman(thatswhattheysayiam)

The signature sound of what? Drums, Guitar, Bass, Guitar and Vocals?

  • Chris

I loved Akeldama, but I just can’t get into this or Planetay Duality.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Philip-Pepin/619182062 Philip Pepin

      +1

I think this is better than Planetary Duality but it’s still tough for me to dig it like Akeldama.

    • Oh Yeah

      I agree. Akeldama was great.

Planetary Duality was a big middle finger to the fans basically (in my opinion). Why would you bother putting out a “full length” that has 9 songs, at least 2 of which are filler? Plus, the songs weren’t as memorable as the songs on Akeldama.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dave-Colbert/535041444 Dave Colbert

Whatever, PD was better than their first album in every way in my opinion.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Drew-Goodwine/1693216336 Drew Goodwine

        i agree

      • Faulty

        Yep, this.

I really like the new song.

    • Aether Jake

Hurr durr I only like bands’ first albums because then they get good and sell out.

      • Oh Yeah

…or in this case because their second album wasn’t nearly as good as the first…but ya know…

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tommy-Parnelle/771405415 Tommy Parnelle

I’m hearing a lot of Cynic here, is that just me? Not that I’m complaining

    • Julia

The clean vocal lines totally remind me of Focus, and that’s a good thing

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Vince-Decker/100002225040320 Vince Decker

yaaaa!! i was thinking cynic when i heard the clean vox too; they both have that cool jazzy feeling. this is really good though, and im mad i gotta wait til the fall. and planetary duallity was great. it totally got me into the faceless then i got akeldama and prob like them both equally.

  • Slaughterhouse

I can’t wait. They always impress

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Harper-Lewis/100001748263922 Harper Lewis

wow that was actually pretty cool. still can’t get past the growling though.

  • rayray

Anyone else have a huge man boner over this? No homo

  • WebShredder

I just hope the clean vocals have better production on the album. They sound slightly weak, I think they could sound fuller. Still loving the song though.

    Good tune….

PS: All of you need to do yourself a favor and look at Keene’s old lady…….he got himself a bad broad…..I knew id seen her before couldn’t place it and then voila…

    Mike Keene = Winner

    • ahhh

i knew her name from somewhere googled it and a whole bunch of porn popped up o_0

Yea…his pimpgame is hella strong…..got her out there getting that money.

Andy San Dimas all motherfucking day

  • Perpetual Black Screen Name

Fuck all haters. This is a good song to start with and I believe the Faceless will do nothing short of blow us all away once again. One of the best/most creative “new” bands in metal today. Can’t wait for this record.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Vince-Decker/100002225040320 Vince Decker

      amen brother!

    • Oh Yeah

Except that their stuff seems to be going downhill since the Akeldama (not in skill, but as far as being memorable, and not just techy riff salad).

  • the benthic

this song is horrible the cleans are horrible it just sounds super fake everything. i know its pre production but it still sounds horrible. and really the guitar solo at the end just doing the chorus again was horrible. that chorus isnt good and they just continuously pound it out. if this is the main track from the album im going to be seriously dissapointed.

  • lustmord

I love the touches of clean vocals in songs Pestilence & Sons of belial. This song continues in the same vein with about the same amount of clean vocals only this time the section repeats several times throughout the song. The composition itself is good but I know there will be better tunes to come. If this was on PD id give it 3 stars whereas xenochrist gets 4, legion & sons are both 5′s. Off the debut the only 5′s for me are leica, title track, & probably ghost of a stranger.

  • Mezcalhead

    Wow, can anybody say OPETH?

    • Milan

You obviously don’t listen to much Opeth!

      • A.C.

I think he’s talking about the clean section. Even so, comparing these dudes to Opeth is a bit of a stretch.

        • Faulty

They both play a brand of death metal with clean vocals, so what? Opeth wasn’t the first to do it, anyway. Oh well, I just don’t hear hardly any similarities.

  • A.C.

I’m personally “half and half” with this track. I can hear that sound, tone and technicality that only Keene and The Faceless can give, but I guess what’s bothering me is how this particular track is structured. I notice how most bands that fall under the progressive genre tend to make their single tracks less complex to gain some more fans. That’s also probably why Keene provided more clean vocals in this song, so I guess I could let this track slide. It’s only fair to wait for the rest of the album and to look (and of course listen) at (to) this particular track as their hit single.

  • Chaz

If lame scene kids hate it, it must awesome. I approve. Cant wait for the whole album.

    • Faulty

Haha, what makes you say scene kids hate it? Based from what I’ve seen they have some scene fans, probably because of their label.

  • deathcore blows cock

wow that was great and its only a preproduction demo can’t wait for the new album.

  • dronemaloney

    crap…

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christian-Varg-Voltaggio/1409575074 Christian Varg Voltaggio

If you dont like the clean singing in terms of note choice, do you also not like mike’s lead playing? Causes essentially the same jazzy, Holdsworth inspired type of melody as his leads tend to be.

I like this song but I like hearing them play it live better. When they play it live, the clean singing comes out sounding smoother and less auto-tuneish. Also, the live version has Keene playing a full solo instead of repeating the outro motif three or four times in succession.

I hope the album version is recorded the way they play it live, i think its a bit more exciting.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christian-Varg-Voltaggio/1409575074 Christian Varg Voltaggio

As i posted above, they released the second version, complete with the solo they play live :)

This Video is Private? fuck that son

  • Marchosias

Glad everybody else got to hear it, fucking private video my ass. If it’s starting to sound like Cynic, I’m still interested, because Cynic owned in the 90′s and they’re still on constant rotation in my listening.
