NEW MACHINE HEAD SONG IN LESS THAN A WEEK?!? SWEET!!!

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011 at 1:30pm by

Well, I didn’t see this coming: not only have Machine Head already announced a September 27 release date for their still-untitled, still-being-recorded new album, but they’ve announced that an “advance mix” (i.e., not final) of a new song, “Locust,” will be released this coming Tuesday, June 14. So that’s not bad news!

The press release states that the song “will be on sale at iTunes on June 14th and will be included on an iTunes Mayhem digital sampler;” download cards for the latter  ”will be distributed at every date” of this summer’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival (on which MH are playing, duh), so I guess you can wait until you go to the show and get the sampler for free, or you can pay the buck (or whatever it ends up costing) and just get the song on Tuesday. I am impatient, so I will be giving Machine Head a dollar, and doing so happily.

Other bands on this year’s Mayhem Fest include Megadeth, In Flames, Trivium, Unearth, Suicide Silence, All Shall Perish, Kingdom of Sorrow, and Red Fang. You can get dates here. And we’ll have some kind of editorial/review/whatever on Tuesday, after “Locust” is released.

i hope that’s just a random 30 secs and not a highlight cos it didn’t sound all that great

Amazon 30 second clips are NEVER “highlights” or compilations in any other respect, it’s always 30 random seconds of each song. Sometimes, annoyingly, for the “first/intro” track of albums, they literally play the first 30 seconds of silence as a preview.

As for the 30 second clip of the M.H. song, yeah, doesn’t sound very intriguing, but the song is just shy of 8 minutes long, another epic. I love “The Blackening” on a whole but that doesn’t mean there weren’t 30 second segments during certain tracks I wasn’t into.

The 30 second clip here sounds like it’s going to be the most boring part of what will otherwise be 7:38 of greatness, as I speculate anyway.

The amazon sample sounds like I’m going to paint my wall a new color with all my jizz. It’s gonna be worth waiting for, I fucking know it!

Goddamn I’m so excited. The Blackening was one of the best metal records of the decade.

      A-fuckin-men to that mate…

A 30 sec clip of an 8 minute song is a bit shit… shall see how the record goes!

I’d like to see Machine Head do one better than The Blackening… it’s gonna be sooo fuckin hard though!

I still lol at the exclusion of Disturbed and Godsmack when you guys advertise the Mayhem tour.

After last year vowed not to go to another mayhem fest, this just confirms my reason. Another day of crappy bands with only one of real interest. Next!

gonna be really fucking tough for them to top (or even come close to) the blackening.

Well that wud have been extremely hard, true…. What I was expecting, tho, was a bit of experimentation or trying to come up with something new… This stuff sounds good, but the track kinda sounds like a leftover from Blackening. The style is very very similar. Still godd, but kinda dissapoints me that they wouldnt dare to risk it and do different stuff.

Sounded interesting. a pre-mix of 30 seconds of one song doesn’t make me shit my pants. I think it’ll be a good song, and a great follow-up toe the Blackening…it won’t be AS good, but still be a good album.

And i shit my pants when I first heard the promo tracks for the newest Amon Amarth album…shit was right on par for them, so I shit….for shit.

Where was Robb Flynn on your best guitarists list?????

  • Jurgen

Well, I´ve listened to the full Locust track on Youtube.

Good thing is… it seems to be following the spirit of the Blackening but adding some new, modern and groovy riffs here and there… Liking it so far.

Bad thing, at least for me, is…. That I was expecting some experimentation, some risk, some kind of a new move or something like that. Instead they seem to have taken the safe path and write a follow-up in the same style of The Blackening. Which I guess it´s not bad, it´ll be a good album… But not a SURPRISING ONE, like Blackening was.

Meh, it´s Machine Head after all… it will be good. Let´s see HOW good, tho
