THESE RECORD STORE EMPLOYEES WOULD NOT BE GOOD AT COMPLETELY UNREADABLE BAND LOGO OF THE WEEK

Monday, June 13th, 2011 at 5:00pm by

Hey, here’s a neat idea : show people a bunch of difficult-to-decipher metal band logos and see if they can identify the band who use that logo. Someone should really take that idea and turn it into some kind of contest… hmm…

While I ponder that notion, check out the below video, in which employees from Waterloo Records in Austin, Texas attempt to decipher various metal band logos. They start out super-easy (Slayer… as if anyone couldn’t read their logo!) and then become increasingly illegible, although I don’t think they’re ever as challenging as some of the ones we’ve used in the past. But we’ve definitely used the last two in contests before.

Come back tomorrow when we’ll have an actual new edition of Completely Unreadable Band Logo of the Week, with some chance for you to win some cool shit, natch.

      RIGHT!?

  • madne0

Who would have thought that the bearded guy who looks like a serial killer would be the expert?

Anyways, I was fine until the Leviathan one. Then, forget it.

  • Sapien

Of course it’s the guy with the huge beard.

His beard is actually less snarled than that last logo…

  • ehhhhh

    That was GREAT!

I ran the Metal sections in three independent stores over the course of a decade before the retail music business began to collapse. The last store I was in was a total Mom n’ Pop operation that only dealt in 60s/70s Rock, along with Metal and all of it’s sub-genres. Myself and the boss were the only two workers and we did not have a computer-based inventory. Every title sold was written down on a notepad.

My boss was in his late 50s and was into Poco, Pure Prairie League etc, and always struggled with the logos. When I would come in for my shift, my friends and the Metal customers would always laugh our asses off when we would look at the notepad and read what my boss would write down for the band name.

Our favorite, hands down, was when he listed Velvet Cacoon as “Velvet Racoon”.
And their logo was not even really that hard to read. Sometimes he would just put down a question mark along with the album title.

Sorry for the long post, but that brought back some hilarious memories!

PS: I’m willing to bet that 99% of the people in that video worship Wilco. Uncle Tupelo and The Flaming Lips.

Sounds like people who insist on calling Samhain “So-ween”. I guess that’s the Gaelic pronunciation, or whatever.
