I bet Brian ‘Head’ Welch loves this band. I guess they won’t be supporting Deicide any time soon.

  • Krang10

Sleeping Giant are fucking awesome, Christian themes aside. The singer is one authentic, passionate dude and it comes off in their music and performance. Cannot wait for this album.

          • AngryOx

That sounds like Reformed Calvinist talk to me.

  • Andy Synn

I love this band. Despite their wacky religious beliefs.

Fish and bread? Was there not a 7/11 nearby?

  • Nocareever

I couldnt even get through the whole video, the song was just that bad.

  • alex

Heres my impression of half the guys above me. “hey I hate Christianity. Hey look a music video by a Christian band. I already know I’m gonna hate it but for some bizarre reason I’ll click on it and sit through the entire thing solely so I can bitch and moan in the comments section. Yes I’m a productive kinda guy.” Utter Morons.

    • Pissed Off Metal Dude

      Exactly. It doesn’t make sense.

      • mIKE

Hmm, well, no point to being nice I guess: The vocals suck, the music is lame and mixed way too low, the video is boring, I don’t care what they’re talking about and nothing I’m seeing or hearing makes me want to care. So basically this stuff will appeal to a small niche of listeners which is great for them. But in the vast expanse of the musical universe, IMHO this offering achieves a highly mediocre standard of mediocrity. And that has nothing to do with their religion.

        (Sorry grandma….)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stephen-J-Piersanti/34800791 Stephen J. Piersanti

Song is pretty cool, kinda goes in to a Jamey Jasta sing type thing
Nothing that I haven’t heard in one form or another, but its original and relentless.

But I can’t stand the blatant “I LOVE GOD” message that they are doing, at least make some attempt to draw a paint a story with words that might/might not have to do with the Bible or what ever garbage you are trying to preach.
Just makes me sick that so many ignorant uneducated people out there (in the US & the World alike) still believe in fairy tales.

    -GOD FREE YOUTH-

    • tscroneb

I simply love how you call people who believe in a God of some sort ignorant and uneducated. You say you went to college and are educated, well surprise, surprise, many christians have also gone to college and are educated! Oh my word! Not only that, many of the theologians of the past went to some of the finest universities and were…wait for it….well educated!

I respect that you don’t believe in a God. What I don’t respect are atheists like you who would much rather bash and criticize peoples beliefs instead of having a discussion about them. I agree that preachers on campus are annoying, and as a believer I sometimes want to tell them to stop yelling so much….but you are just as bad as any of them. I would assume you hate people “forcing” their beliefs upon you, yet you seem to do it more then those campus preachers.

All that your ranting on here does is make people of your type (meaning atheists) appear hateful, arrogant, and not to mention ignorant.

My favorite part about all of your comments was that you don’t like their i love god message. That is fine, but to tell them to tone it down is to tell them to not be themselves. Music, at it’s core, is about portraying a message. It is about showing your beliefs through a form of art. Do you tell anti-religious bands like lamb of god to tone it down? probably not. Would you tell an anti-political band to tone it down? probably not. Bands make music for a reason (good ones anyways), you have no right at all to determine which message is more important and worthy.

And to end all of this, I hope that one day you realize you have a savior. I am fully aware you will laugh, or get angry at such comments, but I don’t care about that. You have a savior who died for your sins, just like I have a savior who died for mine. I hope one day all your ideas of Christianity are broken down. Religion does have many, many flaws. But religion and following Jesus Christ are two completely different things. I hope one day you find true love, which is Jesus Christ.

      God bless.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stephen-J-Piersanti/34800791 Stephen J. Piersanti

Being raised Jewish I would never believe that Jesus is my savior. That I can honestly say will never happen. I will admit that though some of statements are ignorant, and I would agree that no I wouldn’t want any band in particular way to “tone down” their message whether it be Lady Gaga, any black metal band from Scandinavia or Christian band for that matter. I found that with this band in particular that there was no finesse in the matter that they created their art in particular.

I’ve never been one to tell another to stop believing in what you are believing, just be open to others perspective on things; to take anything into consideration (it doesn’t matter if you agree or not but just consider ‘ifs’) because you’ll never know what life will throw at you. Knowledge and discussion with others is key to growing, and from the responses that were less angry, and more well constructed, I’ve appreciated those responses more so than that of others when I made my initial comment.

I can thank you for that.

  • AndyOutcast

You know what makes me sick @ Stephen?

People like you who are blatant in your “I HATE GOD” message. At least make an attempt to draw or paint a story with words on this thread that might not have to do with your GOD FREE YOUTH or whatever garbage you are trying to preach.

Just makes me sick that there are so many ignorant, uneducated people out there (in the US & the world alike) that still believe in fairy tales.

    -GOD FEARING YOUTH-

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stephen-J-Piersanti/34800791 Stephen J. Piersanti

Raised in a Catholic & Jewish household I got a first hand understanding of both religions, as well as college education.

I’m sure your some Christ blowing jerk off who only hope his “good word” is changing peoples lives. But its not. It has been creating dividing lines between cultures and societies since the birth of modern religion (not to mention how many other ancient societies who slaughtered each other because of these differences).

Living a life as a good person & someone who helps others is good to me, but why do it in the name of “something” when you should just be kind enough to help out a fellow human being, rather doing it for brownie points to get into heaven, doesn’t make much sense to me.

Think for yourself and not by the archaic hum drum that mostly isn’t relevant and mostly distorted for personal vendettas against those who don’t believe (ie gay marriage, abortion).

also if there was a God to fear I would know by now wouldn’t I?

      • alex

Your just a close minded bigot. You judge Christians like there all the same. Christianity is actually a very diverse term and yes there are some crazies and assholes like the people you describe but then there is others who are the polar opposite. Many Christian based organisations are involved with charity and social work. I don’t know of any atheist based organisations doing that. Also don’t try and portray all Christians as homophobic because gay & lesbian christtians can & do exist. Some are even ordained ministers. As for abortion well thats just cold blooded murder that any moral human being should oppose regardless of their religious persuasion. I agree you shouldn’t be good just to get to heaven but then your not really being good at all because your acting out of selfish motives and God judges the heart. I agree large chunks of the Bible are archaic an any one who says the entire thing is the word of God has either never read it or their insane. I feel Christianity would improve greatly if people stopped saying that. Also you wouldn’t know by now whether God exists you’ll find out when you die.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Corey-Mitchell/660352330 Corey Mitchell

How judgmental of you. Not very Christ-like. Oh, yeah…I’m also pro-choice. Thanks for judging others on that one as well.

          • alex

I’m confused how expressing my opinions makes me judgmental. Besides you just judged me for being judgmental. So you’re no better. So you’re pro choice. In other words you think human life should be thrown away like its garbage whenever its inconvenient. Wow how Christ-like you are.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Corey-Mitchell/660352330 Corey Mitchell

@alex: The difference between you and me is that I don’t pretend to be Christ-like. You on the other hand, espouse your righteousness and then turn around and use the terms “bigot,” “crazies,” “assholes,” “selfish,” and “insane” to describe those who agree with you as well as those who do not. You also imply that others are immoral if they don’t believe what you believe. Yeah, like I said before, “how judgmental of you.” Oh, and not very Christ-like…in the least.

          • alex

@ Corey Mitchell Hmm It kinda seems like you just picked some random (although emotive I will agree) words out of my post with out really paying any attention to the points I made and how they refer to the post I was responding to. Also you’re not immoral because you have different beliefs to me you’re immoral because you support murder. That’s what pro – choice is – the support of the murder of innocent life. I never once implied that I’m anything close to Christ-like. You pretty much just made that up about me based on nothing. Maybe I used a poor choice of words in my post but you fail to see your judging me the way you accuse me of judging others. So you’re pretty much just a hypocrite.

  • Blah

I feel like your “Keep God out of your songs” comments are stupid. Obviously they are a Christian band! Get the fuck over it that’s what they sing about and their passion for it is amazing. If you don’t like it don’t listen to it! No one cares about how fucking “God Free” you claim to be.

    @BLAH

EXACTLY!!! thank you!!!! Dumb ass idiots ranting about how dumb a Christian band is for writing a Christian song about Christian themes!!!
Go pretend to be hard on someone else’s video. We know how big of a wuss you really are!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stephen-J-Piersanti/34800791 Stephen J. Piersanti

I was just making a point and if either one of you saw what I originally wrote you would seen that i did say that iI dig the music thats it, its just onslaught of Bible verse quotes that I find stupid & unoriginal
Like any teacher you might have had in school would say don’t reiterate what i said, make it your own, and in my eyes they didn’t

if i wanted to get screamed Bible verses at me I would walk around NYC and have all the crazy ass homeless people yell at me, or those retarded ass preachers from the mid west regurgitate the same thing (and they both are just as crazy).

    just sayin

  • Andyoutcast

NO ONE GIVES A FLIP ABOUT THE “POINT” YOU WERE TRYING TO MAKE. It’s an opinion that’s worth your weight in dung!! Keep it to yourself.

If you actually had an ounce of intelligence, or common sense for that matter, you would realize that your statement is parallel to what SG is doing. Preaching. The only difference is they preach about their beliefs which is positive and a message of hope-DESPITE what you want to believe. Your preaching is that of slandering and hate towards their beliefs.

I don’t know what “teachers” you’ve been under or if you even have an I.Q of that of a 4th grader, but my professors have always taught me that when making a comment-put yourself under your opinions to see if you fall under the same judgement. Clearly you missed the point.

And the fact that you insult people with disabilities by calling them retarded shows the level of maturity you have & how highly you think of yourself. Grow up and grow a pair and believe in something worth fighting for!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stephen-J-Piersanti/34800791 Stephen J. Piersanti

You are clearly missing the point. The way its presented I find boring. If you are going to preach positivity just do it in a more original fashion, write YOUR OWN lyrics not cop something someone else wrote but the void between your eyes couldn’t come up with something better.

Its sad you believe this crap, and the fact that you care this much just makes me laugh at how pathetic you truly are. I feel bad for you, I honestly do. As soon as one person speaks out against Christian type music people get all up in arms about “Hey thats mean” or “we don’t care what you have to say” blah blah blah
attempt to open yourself to the opinions of others and respect that there are other ones out there regardless of what you believe, understand where they are coming from and make a valid argument about what they are saying. Nothing of what you have said has changed what I believe in & its what I feel is worth fighting for.

I guess I just hit a nerve with you because your mother couldn’t abort your retarded brother. To bad because I’m sure you would love to stop wiping up his drool on his shirt by now.

      still just sayin

  • Nocareever

Who cares about the beliefs? God fearing or God free……doesnt really matter….the song blows either way.

  • Andyoutcast

Hahaha. Oh man, you caught me. You know me and my brother so well. Darn. Better give in now. One boy’s opinions/hurtful words are enough to make me cry for weeks….

Wrong. We’ll see what happens when it all comes down in the end. But by your logic, I wasn’t trying to change your thinking about your asinine POV from the beginning. You were with you useless, void “facts”. Keep on being an athiest. Your decision.

Oh, and God doesn’t believe in athiests either.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Corey-Mitchell/660352330 Corey Mitchell

Dude, please learn how to use the “Reply” button. Thanks.

  • Natalie

I am so stoked for july 30th when they come to my hometown!
For all of the SG fans, don’t even bother with the haters.
I don’t care if you aren’t into the whole God driven message in their songs,
they still bring the ruckus and they rock hard next to any athiest metal band!
And I have been to shows where they play with athiests bands gladly because even though their messages differs, we all just want to have a good time. It’s time to put our big boy and big girl pants on and grow up. I’m not gonna hate on athiests bands, I might not agree with the message but I appreciate the music.
We gotta stand together and not be ashamed. God bless SG and their fans and even the lost who hate this band
and especially their message. For Jesus said, so they have hated me, they shall also hate you! Keep strong and stay metal!!<3

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Corey-Mitchell/660352330 Corey Mitchell

God bless…even the lost who hate this band

It’s statements like this that make others despise so-called Christians. So fucking judgmental and assured of your position. It truly is sad as real Christians would do their damndest not to tag someone as “lost.”

      • tscroneb

I don’t quite see how this can be seen as judgmental….the lost is a quite typical label for non-believers….It wasn’t necessarily a job at any one person at all….

Further, we as Christians are just as assured of our position as any other person in theirs….As atheists are in their belief in no God. As Muslims are with their belief that Muhammad is the chosen prophet of God….as Agnostics are in their being some God out there…Everyone is assured of their position in some form or fashion…..Christians are not the only people are their who stand by their beliefs as fact.

  • John

I listen to bands and not judge them on whether they’re Christian or secular, but I got so fed up with the “Why would I listen to a Christian band, I don’t want them preaching to me!” bullshit that I quit listening to secular bands for a whole summer.

Pretty funny look on people’s faces when I told them I didn’t listen to secular metal because I didn’t like them preaching death and sin to me.

Anyways, I grew up and just decided to listen to whatever I wanted.
That being said, there are so many great Christian bands that no one knows about because Impending Doom is too busy being terrible.

  • Dylan Wolf

That Stephan guy is one pathetic guy…makes no sense to me why he can’t just stop watching the video bc they’re a Christian band that “preaches” a Christian message. **GASP!!!** who would have put one & one together??
    Douchebag.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Corey-Mitchell/660352330 Corey Mitchell

Why should he stop watching? Isn’t it best to truly know your enemy? Maybe he is one of the people out there who believes that Christianity (and all other religions), and many who practice it, are the direct reason for so many millions and millions of needless deaths due to wars fought in the name of religion. Or, maybe he wants to let others know that religion is merely a money-making profit machine that has absolutely nothing to do with decency, faith, and spirituality. Or, maybe he simply thinks combining metallic riffs with scripture is just a bit too ironic and out of place.

      Who knows?

      Besides God, of course…

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stephen-J-Piersanti/34800791 Stephen J. Piersanti

I agree with everything you have said here; its for those reasons why i feel that the message they are trying to get across falls short of what they really trying to convey & i can’t help but think it just gets a little silly at times, the video is just a bit to over the top & some of the images are conflicting, with a excerpt from the bible with an image of a guy with a bandana covering his face (a positive reference with an negative image)

        • MooseMan

I’ve got to weigh in on this discussion just for one brief moment. Well, maybe it’s less weighing in and more just throwing out a suggestion – you may want to spend more time looking at Christ and less time looking at Christians, because there’s no way to tell who is & who isn’t a genuine article…but if you’re just looking at & observing Christ, rather than people, you won’t see any fence-riding, or beating around the bush…or many of the other behaviors and states-of-being that seem to bother you so much about Christians (and other religious people, it seems) If you do check out the genuine article, you might come across & learn some unexpected and important lessons. Just a suggestion. Peace bro(s).

  • Nocareever

I’m not really an Impending Doom fan either but they shit on Sleeping Giant.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bret-Denton/1186463243 Bret Denton

Funny how certain writers here at metalsucks go out of their way to chastise most Christian bands – simply because they are Christians – but when it comes to paying the bills they have learned to keep their mouths shut. Hence the “world premiere of the new sleeping giant video” without being panned by the metalsucks writers. BTW – Jesus loves all of you – even when you curse his name.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Corey-Mitchell/660352330 Corey Mitchell

Hi, Bret! I don’t chastise Christian bands, just hypocritical Christians. BTW, I have included quite a few Christian bands on my Bleeders list for the column I do every month. I could care less about anyone’s religion (as long as they are not proselytizing to me) or any musician’s religion, all I care about are good songs. Peace be with you.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Corey-Mitchell/660352330 Corey Mitchell

Oh, and BTW Bret, almost all of the “featured” tracks and/or video debut articles are authored by “Metalsucks.” No grand conspiracy here.

      • Clae

I feel like that’s sort of a ridiculous thing to say. You wouldn’t tell Rage Against The Machine to stop proselytizing their political beliefs, or Mayhem to stop proselytizing their antireligious beliefs. I definitely don’t think SG are the most original band in the world, but hating them for saying something you disagree with is no different than what you accuse many Christians of doing. And not only that, it’s not giving them a fair shake based on one aspect of a band that you don’t agree with. Going back to Rage and Mayhem, two bands whose messages I disagree with on almost every point, I wouldn’t let their message take me out of the amazing music that they made. If anything, it forces me to consider my own opinions and understand exactly why I disagree with what they say, or maybe even change my mind.

The point I’m trying to make is be smart. Don’t let reactionary thinking keep you from enjoying yourself in any aspect.

All that being said, I really don’t like SG in the studio at all. It’s super boring and repetitive, but they are one of the most passionate live bands I’ve ever seen.

  • AngryOx

Funny thing though; I read a lot of different sites and blogs on various topics but I definitely see religion discussed the most right here on Metalsucks. Don’t mind it though. It’s good to hear some honest[maybe] debate.

  • AngryOx

Also, I didn’t like the song the first time I heard it but when I listened to it again without the video it was magically better. That seems to happen a lot.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Corey-Mitchell/660352330 Corey Mitchell

So, here are my platitudes: I am an agnostic Godstian liberal who supports the death penalty, is pro-choice, and anti-war. I love gospel music as much as I love black metal. I found this to be…boring. Yet another metalcore Unearthy whiff of nothingness that I forgot about as soon as the video ended. I did have to chuckle at the white t-shirt brigade (powerful statement there) and also the insert card about destroying the devil’s works. If you did that, there wouldn’t be enough quality music to run a site like MetalSucks. Funny ass stuff.

  • Robot Jesus

So tell me as the worms consume your flesh. Do you fear my god now. oh shit wrong band. But yea In the Midst of Lions > Sleeping Giant…. song wasn’t bad though

    • tscroneb

Love that song…they are an awesome band that do not get the attention they deserve.

      • Robot Jesus

I’ve seen them 3 times and they are fucking amazing even got a pic with the ITMOL vocalist

  • paul

Why do they have to be christian.. they’re so good.
