TRIVIUM’S “INCEPTION OF THE END” IS MUCH MORE MY SPEED

I wasn’t really feeling it with “In Waves,” the title track from Trivium’s new album — but I think “Inception of the End” is way, way betterer. It sounds to me like it could have come off of Ascendancy; I’m sure there are fans who argue that this fact makes the song a step backwards from Shogun, but I really don’t mind one bit. Ascendancy is probably still my favorite Trivium album.

Check out “Inception of the End” below and let us know what you think in the comments section. In Waves comes out August 9 on Roadrunner.

Sounds like it could pass for As I Lay Dying or some kind of melodic death metalcore from the mid 2000′s.

I think it’s a decent song, but I haven’t heard anything off the ‘In Waves’ that has really got me pumped.

  • MachinaeSupremacist

    There we go. Much better.

  • REDSKY

I’ll do some fisting to it…I’ll let you all know how it goes.

Nothing says I love you quite like fisting.

I fisted a chick once when I was in my old band. Then she became the lead guitarist.

          hahahaahahah…but srs

  • Alex S

Surely an improvement but it still sounds way too much like AILD or ATR for my liking.

Matt Heafy with long hair = Darlene Connor from Roseanne
Matt Heafy with short hair = Pee Wee Herman

At the little solo part, I was all “OH YEAH HERE COMES THE SOLO” and then there were like 8 notes altogether :(

What made ascendancy so great was that even though it had the good cop bad cop, screamed verses, sing songy, catchy choruses, it also had awesome awesome guitar work that set it above bands like AILD and ATR. They all had similar sounds but trivium just did everything better. This really does just kinda sound like generic mid 2000s metalcore, much to my chagrin. I’ve only listened to this once, and the rest of the album has proven to be pretty diverse so far so we’ll see.

    • Neit

Second. I appreciated ascendancy because though it was metalcore, it wasn’t commercialized, wasn’t generic and predictable, and had inventive writing and great musicianship. This is definitely a step down. You could take most of the songs from that album and place them next to either of these latest and the difference would be indisputable.

I also thought their drumming had a really unique sound to this that what I’ve heard off this album is lacking. Maybe I’m just crazy and/or my memory sucks, but I remember the drumming on Ascendancy being REALLY distinctively Trivium.

I don’t hate this. I don’t love it, either. But hell, I’d listen to it. And I’m saying that as someone who completely and utterly loathes The Crusade and can’t manage to get more than a few tracks into Shogun. So while this isn’t really getting me EXCITED, it’s a step in the right direction?

    metal by numbers 1-2-3

      WHERE’S YOUR FUCKING PURSE?

  • MikeForbid

At least it’s not the same old format of verse > half chorus > verse > full chorus > verse > solo > chorus

  • Jason

The mix from what I’ve heard so far for this album is shit. It’s all vocals and drums over the guitars. Now that’s nothing new by any means for many modern bands, but even at Trivium’s worst they still put emphasis on the guitars and riffs. The tones here and the other 2 songs released are about as gray as the album cover.

  • Andrew

It just sounds boring. Generic melodic metalcore from the mid 2000′s, like everyone else said. At least Ascendancy had catchy songs on it.

  • Douche baggins

    AILD is better.

  • Darth Mammogram

    I miss Shogun.

  • Hetfield

Stfu Mustaine. Your “singing” sounds like a cat in a garbage disposal.

    • Mustaine

“What do you mean you don’t like my singing voice?”

boring. saw them at Mayhem on Sunday. it was the only time i’ve ever really listened to them, and will be the last.

  • Beowulf

I don’t see why everyone is comparing them to AILD. Probably gonna get crucified for saying this on this site, but I freaking love AILD! Lol, and this song is pretty cool too.

Why do we let hipsters comment on this site? Trivium kicks ass! Your mom blows so Trivium doesn’t have to.

  • Trev

Didn’t Killswitch Engage, As I lay Dying, and 10 000 other bands write this song a while back?

  • metalhead616

~fast~^^.. but nothing special!. Its a bit overloaded. THe sound isnt that transparent like shogun….

and still not hard as Ascendancy….

Is it called waves because the waves with the mainstream!!??!?°
