NEILSTEIN SOUNDSCAM: CHIMAIRA GET THEIR REVOCATION

Neilstein Soundscam

Last week I wondered aloud how Trivium’s first-week showing for In Waves compared to the first weeks of their past albums, and my secret Soundscam correspondent came through once again. Here’s how their past three albums performed in their first weeks of release:

The Crusade (released October 8, 2006): 31,156
Shogun (released September 28, 2008): 23,577
In Waves: 20,635

A downward trajectory to be sure, but 20,000 is still quite an impressive number in this day and age. I wonder how Roadrunner Records views it?

Onto other matters: Chimaira, Attila and Revocation all had big debuts last week. Let’s take a look.

1 BREAKING BENJAMIN – SHALLOW BAY: THE BEST OF BREAK
Last week: 13,725 (debut)

A greatest hits album; hard to believe this band has been terrorizing rock radio long enough to warrant a greatest hits album. Last time you’ll see it mentioned in this column.

3 CHIMAIRA – AGE OF HELL
Last week: 7,384 (debut)

Their last album debuted with 15,000 copies sold and the one before that debuted with 16,000 copies. But any band should be satisfied with that number in this day in age.

4 TRIVIUM – IN WAVES
Last week: 6,755
Cume: 29,419

The dreaded 70% Week 2 drop.

9 ATTILA – OUTLAWED
Last week: 4,705 (debut)

Probably the best-performing former Shitstain on the Ass of the Universe band of all-time.

32 SUICIDE SILENCE – BLACK CROWN
Last week: 2,056
Cume: 30,502

Gonna stick around for a while as it marches towards 50,000.

39 PSYCHOSTICK – SPACE VAMPIRES VS. ZOMBIE DINO
Last week: 1,846 (debut)

Psychostick: still a thing. Don’t tell Shambomb.

52 ALL SHALL PERISH – THIS IS WHERE IT ENDS
Last week: 1,585
Cume: 15,398

With a 34% drop from last week, this may finally dip off the charts after a nice 5 or 6 week run.

57 CHELSEA GRIN – MY DAMNATION
Last week: 1,536
Cume: 12,851

87% increase over last week?? Zuh?? Someone please explain.

77 OSBOURNE*OZZY – DOWN TO EARTH
Last week: 1,231
Cume: 936,421

I’m including this release this week because I find it interesting that this album, released in 2001, is approaching platinum. Interesting. That’s all.

85 REVOCATION – CHAOS OF FORMS
Last week: 1,216 (debut)

Nice! Congrats! Their first appearance on this chart is well deserved.
