NYLITHIA ARE “IMMERSED IN THE MANIACAL” OF HOCKEY RIOTS AND SUBURBAN WASTELANDS

Nylithia have yet to let me down; they’re without a doubt one of the best unsigned bands out there today (someone grab them up right quick!). Their video for “Trainsaw” earlier this year was a blast, as was their 2010 video in which they simply broke a ton of shit in a junkyard. Even their cover of the Super Mario Bros. “Castle” theme we posted in 2009 was aces. A+++ WDBWA all around for Nylithia.

Nylithia write excellent songs with killer riffs — make no mistake about this, I wouldn’t be writing about them otherwise — but it’s their penchant for making entertaining videos that keeps me coming back for more every single time they release one. These guys are living proof of Axl’s theory that good music videos not shot in warehouses / open fields can be made on a shoestring budget. Let’s check out their new video after the jump [worth it, I promise!].

Take their recent clip for “Immersed in the Maniacal.” The video mixes found footage of this past June’s riots in their hometown of Vancouver with performance footage of the band shot in a suburban cul de sac — a SUBURBAN FUCKING CUL DE SAC! — and it still manages to avoid metal video cliches and holds my attention. The band says the manicured suburban setting is “equally as maniacal as the [hockey] riot itself,” and I certainly can’t disagree. Even the green/blue/red animation thing they do in the middle of the video is pretty fucking awesome and original, albeit simple. This clip couldn’t have cost a cent to make and it easily blows away most metal music videos on the scene today. The song rips too, naturally!

Keep up with Nylithia at their official website, where the band plans to release their entire new album Hyperthrash for free when it’s all done.
