ANUBIS GATE MAY JUST BLOW YOUR MIND, TOO

Anubis Gate

Anubis Gate’s new self-titled album really took me by surprise; I went in expecting a standard Euro power metal affair but ended up falling in love with a complex, classic progressive metal masterpiece. I’ve already written about how this album reminds me of Queensryche if Queensryche updated their approach a bit for the modern age and didn’t start sucking, but I should add that Anubis Gate are very much in the same class of more modern bands like Iced Earth and Into Eternity, too; fans of those bands are surely gonna dig the shit out of this record, like I do.

Listen for yourself: Metal Insider is streaming the entire record. You’ll be hooked [and surprised] from the first song.

    Man, you’re awesome, Ziltoid!

I mean, “Derp, they sound like every other boring mainstream metal band!”

Holy shit, the new album is definitely growing on me. It sounds awesome.

    Progressive with a capital Poop.

yo thank you for this post, this band is amazing.  Andromeda Unchained is one of the best songs and albums ever

Good stuff.  Not hearing anything that would call Queensryche to mind, though.

Not terrible but not much to my taste either. Sounds like early stuff from Yngwie Malmsteen which I didn’t care for in the 80s ither.

I’m still trying to figure out why people think Queensryche is/was Progressive Metal?!
As for this new Anubis Gate album…sounds pretty stale to me (and as far from “Progressive” as you can get).

I’m really enjoying this. Thanks for the recommendation!

There are so many hipster “metalheads” and trolls on here it’s annoying. If you were really a metalhead or musician, you would appreciate music for what it is. Just because this isn’t “djent” and doesn’t offer 20 crabcore breakdowns during each song doesn’t make this bad. Guess these kids are used to shopping at Hot Topic for music.

Since when would anyone expect a “Progressive” Metal album to have 20 crabcore breakdowns or even come close to sounding Djent in order to appreciate it for its true progressive style?! Instead of hating on Hot Topic, maybe, you should’ve spent some time listening to some true Progressive Metal then you’d be just as critical about the label being bastardized just because a fucking band uses keyboards!! But, I guess when you haven’t the slightest clue then it’s easy to spew such fucking nonsense! Talk about a troll….
