LOU REED: NOT ON THE NEW MEGADETH SINGLE

Monday, September 26th, 2011 at 11:00am by

I really liked “Public Enemy No. 1,” the first single from Megadeth’s forthcoming TH1RT3EN, and I liked it even more after I heard the band perform it live at the Big Four show earlier this month. But based on the comments below our story about that song, it seems like you guys really weren’t feeling it.

Hopefully, you’ll dig the second song released from that album, “Never Dead,” more. It has a really classic-sounding Mustaine riff, and while I think the hook could be a little stronger, it still beats the heck outta anything on United Abominations. BONUS: There is no spoken-word poetry to be heard on the whole thing.

TH1RT3EN comes out November 1 via Roadrunner.

I’m sorry, but megadeth are like acdc to me. Every one of their new songs for the past 3 albums has sounded pretty much the same to me, still no interest.

man. you guys really don’t give united abominations a fair shake. that album is killer. you can’t tell me this song is much better than washington is next. not trying to say this isn’t a good song , because it is. but just saying

I still maintain that Washington is Next and United Abominations are great songs. And I still love the UA album.

United Abominations is the only Megadeth album I’ve liked since…Youthanasia?  It had some great riffs, some slightly dopey lyrics, and really felt like the resounding comeback I had been waiting for.  Endgame on the other hand felt like a slog with a solid intro and maybe two really strong tracks.

From what I’ve heard I have very little hope for 13.

man, if only dave didn’t sound like a dying farm animal, id really like this.

Regardless of my general “meh” attitude towards Megadeth, they currently rank higher in my books than Metallica. In the long run, you win Dave, you win.

I’m tired of everyone still comparing Megadeth and Metallica. I understand why people do it, but let’s get serious here – Metallica in their 30 year career, made 3-5 good albums (depending on whether you count Kill ‘em All and the black album), all between the years of 1983 and 1991. Everything they’ve done since then can be measured on a scale from “bad” to “perhaps the worse album ever recorded by a major label metal band” (St. Anger, obviously).

I don’t even like Megadeth that much. But for the last 10 years, every time they release something, I give it a shot, and it’s usually pretty good. If not for Dave’s voice, much of it would be great. Meanwhile, it’s actually been 20 years since Metallica released anything worth listening to.

The songs they’ve released from this album would sound a lot better if the vocals were mixed down a little. Dave’s vocals really aren’t that bad, but when they’re right in your fucking face, they’re a little much.

Badass riff. I think this song rips.

Cool song, exactly the kind of thing I expect from Megadeth. I will never understand why Dave wont consider adding a singer, it would be that much better and I think 95% of people agree with that. Oh well.

On a side note.. Axl, my friend, you are OBSESSED with Metallica. It’s getting really sad.

Megadeth without Dave singing =/= Megadeth

I think Mustaine sounds totally metal. I like his voice.

Sounds like This Day We Fight, but not as good. Still, my inner Dave Mustaine fanboy can’t bring myself to see this as mediocre. I <3 Dave.

meh…. but i CONCUR with the rest of the metalheads in saying that United Abominations is WAY MORE KICKASS than Endgame… Endgame has only the intro track thats good and the rest is nothing but filler to round out a rushed album IMO…. UA is the last good megadeth album in a while…   13 sounds like another endgame but hopefully dave will put some solid tracks in it….

now for the troll question of the day: PICK ONE ALBUM TO LISTEN TO ON A DESERTED ISLAND FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE :

    A.) METALLICA – ST.ANGER
    B.) MEGADETH – RISK
C.) MORBID ANGEL – ILLUD DIVINUM INSANUS
    D.) LOUTALLICA – LULU

    >=D

I WOULD PICK ST.ANGER HEHE…..  “MY LIFESTYLE DETERMINES MY DEATH STYLE” BEATS OUT  LOU REED’S SPOKEN WORD SHIT AND M.A’S ” KILL A COP KILLA KILLA COP COP” X-D

    • Jt

      I would take Risk
