COHEED & CAMBRIA LEFT PENNIE-LESSBy which I don’t mean they’re broke.

No, former Dillinger Escape Plan/current Return to Earth drummer has now parted ways with Coheed & Cambria after four years in the band. An official statement from Pennie chalks the split up to “creative differences” and says that Pennie will now concentrate on Return to Earth and another band I wasn’t even aware of, Fight Mannequins. (I wonder if that moniker refers to mannequins that fight, or is a directive to take down some dummies? The name works on so many levels!)

Here’s some more stuff Pennie said:

“I am very thankful for the times I shared the stage with the guys in Coheed and especially want to thank the amazing, supportive fans that I’ve met while on tour There are a lot of exciting projects on the horizon in addition to Return To Earth and Fight Mannequins that I feel require 100 percent of my commitment and attention. I feel that this is the right time to make that happen.”

Pennie is obviously an awesome drummer, so we’re sure he’ll land on his feet; likewise, it’s hard not to believe that there isn’t a line around the earth of drummers waiting to fill his shoes. Still, this is the second member to split with the band this year — you may recall that they let bassist Michael Todd go just this past August after he robbed a drugstore. Rough year to be a Coheed & Cambria fan I guess.
