AT LAST! GHOST ANNOUNCE THIRTEEN-DATE U.S. TOUR

Monday, November 7th, 2011 at 2:30pm by

Ghost live is truly a thing of beauty. And so we wept openly when the band had to cancel their U.S. tour with Enslaved and Alcest earlier this year due to visa issues, and then we sacrificed a small child and prayed to the Dark Lord that they return to these shores soon.

And now our prayers have been answered! The band will do a thirteen-date U.S. trek starting in January; support will come from Blood Ceremony and Ancient VVisdom. So, yeah, that should rule pretty freakin’ hard.

    No. This is still bullshit.

I’m not enjoying this recent trend of the bands I want to see skipping Philly.

At least you get to see somebody.      Here where I live nobody, and I mean nobody ever gets within 111 miles of here, and that figure is courtesy of the fact that Tulsa Oklahoma is the closest city that has live concerts of almost any kind.      Even with the University Of Arkansas having its home campus here in Fayetteville, most of the live entertainment, if you can call it that is watered down horse piss alternative, semi-redneck southern rock cover bands (like I need to hear a bad Black Crows cover) or country bumpkin crap.      There is a bit of a jazz scene though, believe it or not, and those handfuls of bands are excellent.
But as usual, most assholes consider metal of any type to be idiotic, something to make fun of, the music and its fans.      But they take some folk “artist” for fine intellectual entertainment even though Folkie couldn’t play advanced guitar if his life depended on it.      Go figure.       Who wants to hear some half-assed singer play an original that is about his dog and the leaves changing colors?      I know one guy who all of a sudden a few years ago decided he was going to be a rock star, basing that qualification on the fact that he knew two chords on an acoustic.
He then started growing his hair long, which didn’t help because he’s already ugly as fuck, and “wrote” songs that went back and forth between those two chords, over and over and over.      He makes CD’s and hands them out, but doesn’t come near me.
That’s because I do play guitar, lead and I compose real tunes.      I’ve given out a few rough demos and everybody digs them.      So I guess he doesn’t want to be shown up.      As much as I love metal, my original stuff goes every which way.     But hey, I can play a serviceable lead break!
Anyway, that’s about it from here.      Shadows Fall came through a while back and that was it.      And who can blame them?      The dives around here are so small they have no room to play anyway.      So don’t feel too bad if a favorite band doesn’t make it through Philly.      You’re in easy driving distance of a bunch of good sized towns, like Wilmington, Harrisburg, Baltimore.      It’s a better situation for live music by far than down here in Bible belt redneck country.      I love Philly, by the way and can’t wait to get back to the Reading Terminal Market for a philly cheese steak.
But you can’t keep a good metalhead down.      I listened to Carcass on the way to work, Motorhead at work, and Death (“Human”) and Skeleton Witch’s new one when I got home.      I will listen to Autopsy on the way in tomorrow.     Not bad for a 50 year old geezer, is it?

You know its pretty cool that you’re 50 and yet there’s 12 year olds just discovering metal as we speak. It shows that metal is a universal language.

I like lots of stuff, actually, but Lemmy Kilmister himself said (and I have always said the same thing myself) that the spirit of real rock and roll is alive in metal music.     It’s true – it has the edge, the power and still can make phony balonies like churches foam at the mouth.     But, it also is a very demanding style musically, much more so than any rap, hip-hop or other crappy Top 40 shit out there.
Plus, studies have shown that metal is among the smartest musical styles, since so many outfits are very aware of the world’s problems and comment on them through song.     Kreator, Sodom, and lots of other great bands have lots of stuff to say and it isn’t mindless crap at all.
Even my dad, who passed away in 2006, was open minded enough to like the lyrics to Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs”.      He thought Geezer Butler’s take on war was spot on.      Of course, he was from an earlier generation and was not a fan of metal, but as you say, even someone who was frankly too old for it saw its value in some lyrical content.     Plus, my brother and I play guitar, and he grew to respect it because he saw how much effort and work we put into it.
I love the energy, the spirit and of course, guitar playing of metal.     It is my favorite type of music easily.     But I certainly don’t recommend anybody stay stuck with nothing but metal.     You’re cutting your nose off to spite your face then.
I love Jeff Beck, Les Paul, the Beach Boys, Steely Dan, Leo Kottke, KMFDM and the Beatles, among countless others.      Music is the language of the soul and is one of the few things this miserable human race created that was worthy.
                I appreciate your compliment.

Yea I like heaps of other styles too like punk, ska, indie, post rock, alternative hip hop etc. Its good to stay diverse. And yes mainstream music is fairly mindless for the most part.

I have tried to like this band, but I just can’t get in to it.  I’m glad they decided to skip the South East.  I can’t wait to see Graveyard in January.

I’ve seen Ghost twice now, and am throughly unimpressed with their schtick onstage and off. Just shut up and play.
Will be there 1/18 for Blood Ceremony.
