“MEIN LAND”: BEING IN RAMMSTEIN IS A DAY AT THE BEACH

Rammstein certainly understand the value of theatricality in metal, which must be why they’re one of the very few bands who pretty much never fail to ensure that their music videos are awesome. Their latest clip, for the new single “Mein Land,” is no exception. It parodies old ’60s Frankie & Annette-style beach movies and Baywatch, to boot, and, yes, it is incredibly entertaining from start to finish, as the band wrings humour out of sort of playing against type (Smiles! Bright colors! Sunshine!) but not really (Titties!!!!).

I’m especially fond of keyboardist Christian “Flake” Lorenz’s performance; in fact, ever since I saw the band live for the first time last year, I’ve been kind of enamored of Lorenz. In a band full of weirdos, he somehow manages to delightfully be the weirdest.

BTW, this video should probably be considered NSFW, even though there’s a lot less nudity than in some other Rammstein videos.

“Mein Land” will appear on Rammstein’s new greatest hits collection, Made In Germany 1995-2011, which comes out December 2 via Universal.

Even though I absolutely ADORE pretty much every other thing Rammstein has ever done, Im oddly enough not too fond of this song. Lacks the oomph that Rammstein is really known for. Kind of falls flat.

Love the video, but yeah, the song is like Rammstein by-the-numbers.

You couldn’t expect any less from Rammstein, excellent video. The music seems ok…

Way too many millisecond cuts. Part of the fun of watching a music video that parodies another era is being able to actually see the visual cues and jokes that mock that time — Weezer’s “Buddy Holly” video immediately comes to mind. If almost every cut is ultra-quick you can’t settle in enough to appreciate the humor. To further illustrate this point, the best part is when Till runs down the beach and the edits last longer than five seconds. Cool idea, but the quick cuts kill it for me.

    • DarkDragon

Quick cuts are terrible, It was like watching a Iron Maiden dvd. Still a cool video though.

      • cougar party

ugh.  I love Rock in Rio, but the edits are way too fast.

  • Hetal

All that watching for just 5 titties.

  • Matty K

Mike Rowe is the singer for Rammstein?

  • ITTOA666

That was entertaining. I always expect a fun video from these guys, and they delivered.

  • bewarethewater

This music video is absolutely awesome.  As for the song, I’d expect more from them especially considering the last album was one of their better ones.

Rammstein sucks monkey balls. Seriously, they are so boring and dull, and not even metal(in the adjective sense, not the music sense).

    • Axem

Care to explain the metal part? Lacking long air and a beard?

  • The_I

I’m with everyone else. Great video (one of their best yet), but the song sounded like a B-side from Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da.

I think i know what the Song is about – as a reference in the Video shows. Go and google “meshuggah Beach” in the pictures section.

Curious to find out the deeper meaning of those seemingly simple lyrics of “Mein Land”?

      Anti-Muslim bullshit.

      • Bonz

Right, because when people go to France, they say “Oh, it was beautiful how diverse the culture was! There were muslim influences everywhere!” or in Germany they say “Oh I LOVED all the immigrants, it was sooo diverse!” There’s nothing wrong with a country wanting to preserve the things that make it unique. Not every country has to bow down to the politically correct “melting pot” bullshit. Just the US.

        • Donkeyfucker

Hey, look! They have teabaggers in Germany, too!

          • CrusherDestroyer

You are an idiot.  Bonz is “on the money”.

I <3 this band… fuck I've travelled to the US just to see these guys.

Gotta love their stage shows and videos… epically epic.

  • Slaytanic_Mechanic

Awesome song, awesome video, fuck all you haters Rammstein will always be one of the best.

  • PFC

Another awesome Rammstein video. Not sure why people are hating on the song? It’s actually a lot better then most of the stuff on Liebe, which I did not enjoy so much.
