SH*T THAT COMES OUT TODAY – THE DECEMBER 13, 2011 EDITION

Well, here we are. As Metalsucks will be closing up for the year on December 16th, this article concludes an entire year writing Shit That Comes Out Today for Metalsucks. I’ll be posting an update with my first article of next year if anything comes out in the meantime worth checking out, but for now check out three new releases coming out today.

Ever Forthright – Ever Forthright (Myriad)
Complex instrumentals meet aggressive hardcore in this self-titled release from Ever Forthright. This music is tough to describe… the guitars and bass vary between proggy and djenty technical metal while the vocals and drums are pretty standard. The band even includes a saxophone and mixes in some hyper-processed clean singing as well (provided by ex-Periphery singer Chris Barretto). A pretty solid release, although the clean vocals are pretty grating.

Gnaw Their Tongues – Per Flagellum Sanguemque, Tenebras Veneramus (Crucial Blast)
This is the first time I’ve said this in print, but this band is just too out there for me. The music is completely inaudible, so I can’t even tell what’s being “played” here. At a certain point, your lo-fi dirgy metal act becomes less TRV KVLT and becomes the soundtrack to being raped in a cave. Keyboards do occasionally come in to the mix (audibly!), yet it’s accompanied by the sound of someone being strangled on the track “Hic Est Enim Calix Sanguinis Mei”, which is as far as I got in to this one without getting tired of it.

The Empire Shall Fall – Volume One: Solar Plexus (Angle Side Side)
Formed by ex-Killswitch Engage singer Jesse Leach, The Empire Shall Fall begin a series of announced EPs with Volume One: Solar Plexus. Musically, TESF doesn’t sound too drastically different from Leech’s former band, using the same metalcore blueprint and excelling at it. I usually go back and forth with my feelings on Killswitch and their metalcore brethren, but this band definitely can stand with the other more popular bands of the genre, as they excel at songwriting and musical ability. The band’s only other recorded material was the 2009 album Awaken.
