WHOA: MATT DEVRIES JOINS FEAR FACTORY AS NEW BASSIST

Well well well, isn’t Matt DeVries suddenly the belle of the ball?

Last week, DeVries, who only just recently quit Chimaira, announced that he was quitting Six Feet Under, too. And we were all like, “Hm, I wonder what he’s gonna do now?” ‘Cause quitting two bands of note in just a few months doesn’t necessarily seem like the best career move, y’know?

But now we know the answer to that question! And that answer is: join Fear Factory as their new bass player.

Holy shit. I did NOT see that coming. Great plot twist, dude!

ANYWAY, DeVries replaces Byron Stroud, who was recently announced as the new bassist for 3 Inches of Blood; but it was never announced he was leaving Fear Factory, and, honestly, I assumed he was just gonna be in both bands. Guess not, though!

Here’s a statement from DeVries regarding his new gig:

“I have been asked by Dino [Cazares, guitarist, duh] and Burton [C. Bell, vocalist, double-duh] to join one of my favorite bands. I have been a fan of Fear Factory since 1992 and I could not be more excited to be part of this incredible band. We have shared the stage many times together and now I’m beyond stoked to be on the same stage playing together. Thank you to all my fans worldwide for sticking by me and I will be seeing you all on the road very soon.”

According the band’s Facebook page, “Specific details with regards to Fear Factory’s new album are expected to be released in the coming week” — although we do already know that it’s scheduled to come out this summer. Presumably this will followed by lots and lots of touring with the group’s new line-up.

And… I really don’t know what else to say! I’ve been a fan of DeVries’ playing for the entirety of his time in Chimaira, and like I said last week, he was fun to watch in Six Feet Under, too; the dude just has a cool stage presence, and he’s a talented musician. It’s no secret that I’m not a huge Fear Factory fan, but I am glad to see DeVries land on his feet. We wish him the best of luck, and sincerely hope he enjoys the taste of babies!
